One of the best action movies that i've see in a long time, with the best fight secuences in a very long time.
The cast include great stars like Donnie Yeng, Sammo Hung and this new (for me at least) Wu Jing that for moments steal all the action.
The plot is very predictable, but when you have another elements like a great performance of the main cast, for this time, i can forget that little detail.
Kill Zone had the potential to be one of the best crime noir/kung-fu movies in ages, and it was....until the end. I really did love a lot of things about this movie. They took time setting up the characters, developing them, giving them some depth, building the tension etc. I thought it was well directed, acted, edited, choreographed etc. And then everything is flushed down the toilet in the last few minutes. Honestly, it made no sense and served no purpose other than cheap shock value. Such a shame too, because those fights in the last 20 minutes were fantastic! Could have been such a great movie, but instead it wins the award for gayest ending ever. Lame.
Otro gran policial. Dios bendiga a Cinemax. El comercial de esta pelicula decia: "Este es el tipo de pelicula que Tarantino ve cuando necesita inspiracion". Nunca escuche nada mas cierto...
This movie shows how a villian has his weak spot--his wife and baby--though he deserves every punishment possible. Very dark, intense emotional thriller.
I have to admit, I have been a little out of touch with Hong Kong cinema as of late. I used to really enjoy the genre in it's heyday when John Woo, Ringo Lam, and Tsui Hark were coming out with their best stuff, when Jackie Chan and Jet Li were doing their best fighting, and when Chow Yun-Fat seemed like the coolest guy on earth. It seems that after the J-Horror craze hit, I kind of lost interest in Asian cinema. Anyways, last time I was in Chinatown, the clerk in the DVD store recommended this title to me to get back into it and boy, did he pick a winner. This film stars Simon Yam (one of my favorite HK actors), the legendary Sammo Hung, and Iron Monkey himself Donnie Yen. It is a great police thriller that mixes a story of gangsters and revenge with martial arts with spectacular results. The story is totally engaging and the fight scenes (especially those that feature Yen) are some of the best I have seen in years. The violence is unflinching and the overall package is a gritty Asian kung-fu noir that is not to be missed. This had everything I remember that made me a fan of the genre in the first place. Awesome.
Great HK movie of recent years. Story is engaging. The fights are awesome. Sammo VS Donnie really is superb. Simon Yam tried to frame Sammo of killing his undercover officer and in the end he managed to find the retard who film the whole thing to prove his innocence. And all the 3 other officers got killed by the assassin. At the very end I thought Donnie killed Sammo for good, but he got up and push him down and he landed on the car of Sammo's wife and baby. Both got killed as well as Donnie. That's like sort of retribution.
S.P.L. has a plot unique from most other crime action/dramas, in that it manages to give its characters some depth. However, the above average plot takes a backseat to excellent fight choreography by Donnie Yen. The cinematography here is also very polished and dramatic.
The one blemish in this shiny presentation is the epilogue, which was equally confusing to the one in Battle Royale. It just seemed sudden and unnecessary... still, S.P.L. is one of the better Hong Kong crime flicks out there.
Brilliant action, breathtaking kung fu violence. As well as a brilliant crime drama. It's what a kung fu movie would be if Scorsese were to make one. Class
At first it was slow, but it did a great job working on character set up. When the last part started going it kept on. The last few fights were brutal and wasn't really expecting how it turned out. Worth looking at if you like fighting movies.
The beginning and middle are unfortunately quite slow. Then, suddenly and without warning, the ending is amazing. This has Donnie Yen's best work so far on camera. i also includes some of Sammo Hung's. Yen successfully choreographed old-school/Bruce Lee hybrid fights that were obviously fantastical yet with a good amount of realism to ground them.
It's about time a really good action movie comes out that does not need to rely on CG(Computer Graphics)to make the action look good. It's really good to see Sammo Hung back in a good movie with real fighters again. All I can say about Donnie Yen is that he's doing a fine job as an action director.
Great Hong Kong crime film, Donnie Yen rocks in his role, and while the action is sparse between the drama, when it kicks in its rockin. Great cinematography and a hell of a martial arts preformance from Donnie Yen and Sammo Hung Kam-Bo.
This film caused alot of buzz at the Toronto Film Festival last year, I had actually wanted to go and see it at its premere, but unfortunitly could not. So after a few patient months it finally arrived on DVD. I was totally blown away. I expected good, and got great insted. Sammo Hung has proven yet again that he can so very nicely play the badguy. The fight at the end between him and Donnie Yen is nothing short of magic!
Killzone?? Oh God...US and their ridiculous names for asian movies. Anyway, i had an oragasm when i heard Donnie Yen was going to face off against Sammo Hung. Their fight scene wasnt that great...but still good.
Killer action scenes and one of the best knock-down, drag-out fights I've ever seen on film between Sammo Hung and Donnie Yen make this otherwise predictable cops and crooks movie worthwhile entertainment.
Best action scene i had ever watch....breathtaking,absolutely fantastic!
Nothing much but fighting scene, story and plot is boring and very old HK-style....
Simon Yam's character is the only one that required great acting skill, and he had done a marvellous job out ther!
Highly recommend for action movies fans!
