Carla Gugino, Gil Bellows, Jim Piddock

This surprisingly satisfying horror movie centers on a mermaid--but it's hardly one of the giggly types from Peter Pan. Rufus Sewell and Carla Gugino play a couple of small-time circus people...( read more  read more... ) who discover that an eccentric old man keeps a genuine mermaid in a water-filled tank. Dreaming of an invitation from Ringling Bros., Sewell steals the mermaid and loads her on a ship for America. But in the middle of the Atlantic, the hungry mermaid shows her darker side--and Gugino learns that she may be linked to the mermaid in unexpected ways. She Creature was no doubt made on a low budget, but it looks excellent and the above-average script gives the strong cast firm ground to stand on. The mermaid herself (Rya Kihlsted) is both lovely and eerie. All in all, an enjoyable homage to classic horror films. --Bret Fetzer

Fantastically surprising B-Movie that reaches levels of success barely met by big budget Hollywood productions. The acting is well above par, for a film of this ilk, and the casting of Gugino and Sewell really pays off. Each of them has really interesting characters and aren't ju...( read more)st flat emotionless voids ready for the slaughter. The horror is both psychological and physical, causing jumps and moments of unexpected uncertainty. The film also does really well at introducing the mythology of the mermaid. Unlike many films, the exposition is broken up and scattered throughout the film, whilst being seamlessly woven into the story/action. It's a unexpected gem that realizes that characters come first, with murder and mayhem second.

a film very much inspired by films of the past, as rufas sewell plays a travel show owner specialising in miths and monsters, fake of course, and his lovely wife played by the lovely carla gugino, they encounter a real living mermaid, and take her to america, but its on the way t...( read more)hat strange things start to happen, and murders, along with mysterious things happening to the wife, not a scary film, but some nice touches,

She Creature was surprisingly a delight to watch. She Creature begins in Ireland with two lovers (Angus played by Rufus Sewell and Lillie played by Carla Gugino) who run a freak circus with fake freaks,Lillie is the fake mermaid in the show. One night they meet an old man who tak...( read more)es them to his gothic mansion (which was to die for ) where he shows them a real mermaid and warns them about how dangerous she is in the hope that this will put them off ever trying to catch a real mermain. However Angus sees dollar signs in his eyes so during the night he goes back to the gothic mansion and steals the mermaid,he decides to take the mermaid to America so earn a small fortune. The rest of the movie takes place on the boat where the mermaid shows her true colours.

The story is very totally original and very compelling plus the visuals are great. Allegedly this movie was shot in 18 days and was filmed on a very low budget but it does not show. The period costumes were stunning and the settings were very good. The whole movie reminded me of the old Hammer House of Horror movies and it had some very nice old school horror touches. It was very much like a good vampire flick but with mermaids.

Carla Gugino is the main star of this movie, she is incredibly beautiful and also her character Lillie is very sexy in a not so obvious way.

A must see for fans of elegant gothic horror flicks.

I remember catching this late one night and thinking it was great. I had never seen a horror mermaid before (or since, to date), and this film is worth it for the novelty.

The Mermaid is realy creapy and makes me think more of a siren then a mermaid in fairy tails and legands. But it still is realy good and has a creapy twist to it.

This caught my eye because it had "Sin City's" Carla Gugino in it, but i was pleased to find that the actual movie was great, the mermaid is very beautiful, but very spooky at the same time. Quite good for a low budget.
