All of EVA has always been more than mind blowing - making the depth of its characters its primary focus despite the sci-fi framework. It was weird to see it end; even more weird to see it end like it did. But all in all, walking away from the series and still feeling intrigued and piqued, I'd say this anime will be one of the rare ones worth returning to.

Although released over ten years ago, this is still one of the most breath-taking animated movies I've ever seen. Taking place in the series where episode twenty four left off, we see another 'what if?' scenario, if Instrumentality hadn't taken place, and life goes on. With the angels gone, humanity still has another enemy left... themselves.
Not recommended for new-comers to the series, in fact, I pity anyone who tries to watch this without any previous knowledge of the series, yet if you've seen the series, and was a tad dissatisfied with original ending, give this a try. Or even for a challenge. Gorgeous, bizarre visuals, haunting characters, and the world in disarray- totally Evangelion. After first watching this movie, I just sat down, and stared. I just kept staring, wondering, '...what on earth did I just watch?'. There were so many things that didn't make sense- so many glorious, surreal things that even Anno himself mentioned he didn't understand~ but that's the glory of Evangelion. Your interpretation.
Ten years on, people are still stroking their chins and furrowing their brows over this movie, and with good reason.
But really. Would you have it any other way?

    wow. wat an epic ending!
shame is was so weird and plotless.
evangelion has some of the deepest, most complicated anime characters eva created and these last episodes really explore them - and many questions of love, reality, sex and existence as well
the problem is that its at the expense of a plotted ending to wat is otherwise an amazing series. this happens, then this, then everything was because of this - on and on - none of it really makes sense.
overall - epic film making - so bloody japanese - completely beyond western directors - but it suffers from nil plot and heavy heavy melodrama. should have got a second director in to do the plotted action bits.
7/10 - some early episodes in this series easily earn 10s

How often does a series have two endings, but they both suck. I give it 3 stars for the first half, which was well thought out, but the last 20 minutes of the film is just a random assault on the senses that ultimately leaves the viewer with no closure. It's like they ran out of ideas so they just gave you a bunch of seisure inducing crap hoping you'd forget the first half. It may seem old at times, but I like it when the humans stop their inevitable destruction. It was a complete waste of time to watch a series where they try to stop something that ends up happening anyways.

Messed up in so many ways and impossible to understand unless you've watched the whole series and researched everything on wikipedia. And even then, i'm still not sure I understand. But still a great film and a much better ending than episodes 25 & 26, where they clearly ran out of budget. Give it a try if you want to be ridiculously confused for about a month.
