A bit slow, but you just can't say no to a film with Sonny Chiba as Jubei yagiu, and directed by Kinj Fukasaku.

this was an excellent samurai flick. a story about two brothers battleing over the right to be shogun, the story is well told with great plot twists and a fast paced feel. conspiracies abound and you never know which side to root for from one moment to the next. by the end you...( read more) realize that the only character worth rooting for was only semi-significant until the close of the war causes him to be the carrier of justice. highly recommended.

An interesting take on the Yagyu Clan. Jubei Yagyu is my favorite character played by Sonny Chiba. He has this sort of innocence about him, he's sweet and funny and very handsome and quite the samurai. In this story Jubei loses his left eye in a fight defending his father from an...( read more)other samurai but in Reborn from Hell, he loses his eye sparring with his father as a boy. In this case, the father is the evil conspiracing bastard who has turned two brothers against eachother for Shogun place and Yagyu gets to be the teacher of the turned bad prince. Many innocence people and clans were used and killed by Yagyu and this evil prince turned Shogun... All for the sake of keeping the Yagyu school which is the dream of Jubei's father. In the end finding the truth to be thus, Jubei angerly confronted his father with the severed head of his so called prince. Yagyu lost his mind. My only disappointment is that it's not showing enough of Jubei/Sonny Chiba.
