This was released in 1986 but was really entertaining for both adults and children. Should be more movies like this. Alley Sheedy and Steven Guttenberg are good support actors from Number 5.
No film has changed American culture more than short circuit. This movie touched on almost every issue that we hold sacred. From what makes a real person, to love, to prejudice.
After seeing Short Circuit over 100 times, I believe that I can safely say that it has influenced nearly every movie that has come after it.
If you have not seen this movie, I don't believe that you can truly have a full and meaningful life.
"Girls. Mmmmm! With brassieres and legs." "Bye-bye, goofy woman. I enjoyed repeatedly throwing you to the ground." I was annoyed by the villains in this one but Ally Sheedy makes up for it in hotness.
very funny! number 5 was one of my favorite movie characters when I was younger ^_^ but even though I've apparently grown up (at least that's what they keep telling me) I still do like it
Lightning strikes Number 5, one of a group of experimental military robots, and starts to act like human! His development of personality helps him befriend the young Stephanie (Ally Sheedy), try to avoid capture, and convince his robot creator (Steve Guttenberg) that he is truly alive.
Number 5 delivers the best quotes listed, including:
1.) "Malfunction. Me input."
2.) "Beautiful. Lightbulb!"
3.) "Beautiful. Stephanie!"
4.) "Number 5 is alive!"
5.) "When you got to go, don't squeeze the Charmin."
Back in 2001 I first watched "Short Circuit" on TV, but I actually saw it in Spanish without any subtitles. It wasn't until a year later when I watched the original English version (finally!)....on TV again. I saw its sequel for fun viewing back in the 6th grade, and a classmate of mine referred to me as "Johnny 5".
Want to see a good movie featuring a robot with a good personality? Check out "Short Circuit".
Cheesy dialogue, bad special effects, numerous plot holes, and awful 80s music. These are just a few of the reasons to watch this movie. Fisher Stevens' character never fails to make me laugh with his butchering of popular sayings, and it's impossible not to love Johnny-5. This part-stupid, part-clever, always hysterical movie will forever be a classic.
A Military robot: Johnny Five undergoes suddenly transformation after being struck by lightning is develops self-awareness and fear of reprogramming that awaits him back at the factory and tries to convince his creator that he was become alive. Number 5 is renamed Johnny 5 after hearing the song "Who's Johnny?"
This was another movie I saw when I first came to the states. I know I really liked it, but I have not gotten the chance to watch it again so I don't know if I still do... but hey, first impression counts!
I remember being totally bored in the theater. But maybe it's because I was 8 years old. . .also, since my dad is an electrician, he told me that a short circuit is serious and that it could kill him. Party pooper.
A Classic bit of light-hearted science fiction. One of the great 80's movies. Always funny to hear when someone claims they are from Bakersfield in a movie. :-)
Great movie when you're a kid. Fun to go back and watch, classic 80's. Only topped by the sequel. "Mos locos kick your ass - mos locos kick your face - mos locos kick your balls into outer space!"
