An incredible gangsta tale of two friends that grow up together in the mean streets of Kingston Jamaica and migrates over to the US. See this it is a treasure.
brilliant film.
unapologenic raw urban drama about 2 friends raised on de dangerous streets ov Kingston, Jamaica. Biggs (kymani Marley) & Wayne (Spragga Benz) take on de shottas [Jamaican 4 gangsta] way ov life 2 survive. Paul Campbell, Wyclef Jean & Louie Rankin also star in this film'
This movie was horrible. It was more violent than a Martin Scorcesse film (which is incredible). There is no respect shown towards women in this film. All of them are easy, and thrown around, and bought with money, and draped all over the guys like the guys have a RIGHT to own them! No wonder there are guys out there who disrespect women, and believe that they deserve to have many women! Absolutely disrespectful and horrible. Also, I really didn't appreciate the porn in this film. It was completely disgusting. This film is a repulsive display of the most vile thoughts that could ever be thought. This film is the equivalent of the thoughts of the most horrible, disgusting, vile, nasty, dirty, old man- who is probably sitting in jail right now, wishing he could watch this movie... because only a horrible, disgusting, vile, nasty, dirty old man criminal should be watching films like this. Absolutely REPULSIVE.
this is one incredible film and very intense, a film that intrigues you, a film that could easily ring the truth on some areas of Jamaica a country where being the top playa or gangster is the main deal. A film with that dialect of theirs that's very dope and interesting, with the culture but mainly typical gangster bullshit, respect, money, hookers, bla bla bla. If u've liked City of God (Cidade de Deus) u're gonna love this one!!!
Short review: I think if you look at this film for what it was it was a fantastic film. If you are expecting Oscar-worthy performances then I suggest you look elsewhere.
Not to say that the acting is bad, since its far from that I think the cast did an excellent job. The film is gritty and so are the actors (though Wyclef comes off more comical than "gangsta" which made me laugh for a good 10 minutes) I think the rawness of the film gave it integrity in a void where many "strret films" are more often than not highly forgettable.
I liked how the director gave a glimpse into the contrast of the two main characters (Biggs & Wayne) but also why they are so much alike methodically when it comes to gettin down to business.
Honestly this film reminds me of the feeling I had when I watched Belly... I wasn't going into it with much but at the end I was surprisingly pleased with the whole film. I definitely suggest this movie for those of my friends who are into "gangster/mob" type movies.
Oh yeah, dont let the patois intimidate you....they have subtitles =)

This has been called 'The Jamaican Scarface'. What utter blasphemy. However, this film was actually good. I was expecting your typical gangsta fare: shoot-'em-up, bling-bling, money-cash, ho's.... Though the storyline was typical, something made it all come together. Let's examine this:
1) The cast was real Jamaicans with REAL Jamaican accents. It annoys me to no end to see Americans (or otherwise) playing Jamaicans. If you want to see what I mean, just rent 'The Mighty Quinn' or 'Cool Runnings'.
2) The soundtrack, all roots reggae and dancehall, was blazing.
3)Sexy men all through the movie (goodness....)
Number 3 was kind of superficial, wasn't it? Oh well.... The only downside to the movie was Wyclef. I used to dig him back in the 'Guantanamera' days, but now he only comes off as an arrogant prick. (By the way, WHY-clef is the Americanized pronunciation of his name. It is truly pronounced WEE-clef.)
Anyway, gratuitous bloodshed, degradation of women and cursing abound. But again, this movie just works.
I am upset they had to change the soundtrack to the official version. Plus, my favorite Wyclef line was removed. Otherwise, I would have given this more stars
low budget rude bwoy masterpiece. some scenes weren't fleshed out but this is brilliant modern jamaican cinema. excellent acting all around except for wyclef.. mad max is top shotta #1.
