Can a buddy-cop parody still qualify as a good buddy-cop movie? Showtime struggles to prove it's possible, and with a few solid laughs it almost succeeds. No movie starring Eddie Murphy and Robert De Niro could be a total turkey.

It's not the worst thing Eddie Murphy has ever done, but it might be De Niro's. It is a failed attempt at a buddy cop revitalization. It has very little comedy that isn't stale and overdone. It was a complete waste of two good actors. Zero originality.

this movie has its own good moments and the very "boring" moments also..the key word for the reason i rated 3 stars is robert de niro in the curtain room where he is hilarious..

De Niro looks bored, Murphy recycles Murphy, and you mentally add Showtime to the pile of Hollywood dreck that represents nothing more than the art of the deal. full review
Showtime's complete lack of originality oozes off the screen like, um, rancid popcorn butter. full review
The movie's funny in the opening scenes and then forgets why it came to play. full review
A small fortune in salaries and stunt cars might have been saved if the director, Tom Dey, had spliced together bits and pieces of Midnight Run and 48 Hours (and, for that matter, Shrek). full review
