Story of a group of people living in California searching for happiness. A Story told countless times, and failing countless times, though not the case with this one. Kevin Spacey appears to be back on form with his best performance since American Beauty. He portrays a wealthy shrink who loses his wife, and turns to marijuana to help cope with the loss. The entire cast surrounding Spacey was absolutely pitch perfect including the wonderful young actress Keke Palmer, Mark Webber, Saffron Burrows, and a small, but brilliant performance by Robin Williams.

Everything from the camera work (including possibly the best tracking shot I've seen this decade), editing, and for the most part, the screenplay worked to perfection in this. If you haven't seen this little gem, I recommend you go rent it! I absolutely adored it.

Slight disappointment since Kevin Spacey and Dallas Roberts are two excellent actors and usually deliver great films. Of course both of them gave wonderful performances as it was expected, but the movie was awfully and unnecessarily slow, the plot is one that even though he haven...( read more)'t seen in this form, it feels familiar and repetitive, and even though it had potential, it lacked charisma and pulse. Just for another great Kevin Spacey performance - watch it. Other than that it really doesn't offer much other than what a typical Hollywood drama would.

For a much greater version of this watch the short 2004 film named Our Time Is Up . At least that one is fully satisfying and succeeds in what it sets out to do.

Good movie. I Liked the interwoven story and the snappy dialogue. I hadn't seen Kevin Spacey in anything for quite a while, and I was reminded of how good an actor he is. The rest of the cast are good too, with an nice cameo from Robin Williams. Shrink's well worth your considera...( read more)tion.

I thought it was good, but nothing spectacular. And I love Kevin Spacey...he didn't disappoint.

Nice performance by Spacey in this flim about a Hollywood Shrink to the stars who's own wife commits suicide and throws him into a grief he finds that his own "get happy" philosophy can't save him from; which deepens his depression even more so when he doubts his own creditabili...( read more)ty. Along the way we meet his patients and aquaintances who all cross paths in one way or another - sort of a "Crash" of emotional trauma. That being said this wasn't particulary anything new and the slow dark pace of this is not always easy to hang in there with ...but as a fan of Spacey's it was still a worthwhile watch.

A bit slow, but enjoyable if you give it time to pick up. Drug dealing shrinks are always a guaranteed good watch.

Good movie, all I can say. It was just from the bunch, without the main actor, the movie would had sucked big time.

This movie sucked. It was completely weak and unrealistic and dull - the epitome of pathetic. My advice to anyone who reads this - don't make the same regretful decision I made to waste your time with this failure of a film. I would rather watch 2 hours of old people clipping the...( read more)ir toenails than see this movie again.
Kevin Spacey is way over-dramatic and creepy. It's obvious he's trying to impress, yet does exactly the opposite. The other actors don't help much either. Although I can't say they had much of a chance with the disturbingly weak plot they had to follow.

Kevin Spacey delivers a career-best performance in this admittedly flawed, but highly underrated character drama. The film is often criticized for the amount of characters it examines, and for the seriousness of its material, but I find it to be touching and thoroughly entertaini...( read more)ng. It's a crisply directed, expertly acted piece with a lot of beautifully tender moments. I'd recommend people see it for Spacey's performance alone, but the whole film is quite good. I think the critics are horribly wrong about this one. I really fell in love with it on a second viewing. One of 2009's strongest.
