  • Description: In 1993 River played a quirky character Talbot Roe in an off-beat movie “Silent Tongue” (which was released a year later). Talbot spends a large section of the movie sitting under a burial tree guarding the body of his half-indian wife who had died in childbirth. River’s Talbot slowly goes mad, fighting off his own demons and the ‘ghost’ of his dead wife.

    Veteran English actor Richard Harris and River Phoenix bonded off the set in this movie, with River ‘adopting’ Harris as a father figure as he had done with several other older actors in previous films.

    For all its quirkiness and unusual storyline, the movie and River’s part in it received favourable reviews.
