I can't say I'm that enamoured with Sleepy Hollow. For me it was the beginning of Burton's spate of disappointing films.

It's better watching it the second time around. Still not as great as I thought it would be, but creepy enough.

The look of this movie is soooo cool and dark I love it for that reason alone, pure Burton visual dynamite. I just think Depp was wrong for the main role, it needed someone more eccentric and kooky like Burton himself haha, but a great homage to Hammer and beautifully rendered.

Tim Burton has done it again. It seems he can't really go wrong; especially when he's paired with Johnny Depp. Sleepy Hollow is the most visually stunning movie I have seen this year. The production is gorgeous in every way; the cinematography is hauntingly beautiful, the set des...( read more)ign is incredible and the way Burton uses the color red to accentuate the lack of color and dreariness otherwise experienced in Sleepy Hollow is a visual treat. This movie is just absolutely beautiful to watch. The performances are flawless, I have to commend Burton for using such a great array of underappreciated character actors, such as Jeffrey Jones and Michael Gough.. and even poor little Casper Van Dien; the man just can't seem to get any respect (and he doesn't here either). Ricci is wonderful in a role totally against type, and Depp is refreshing as ever. Christopher Walken is just the coolest guy ever, and as the Headless Horseman he's even scarier than normal. The best thing, though, is Danny Elfman's music. Why on earth doesn't the man have an Oscar yet? What is going on?? He should at least get a nomination for this one.

    Young Masbath: Is he dead?
Ichabod Crane: That's the problem. He was dead to begin with.

    Johnny Depp: Ichabod Crane

    Christina Ricci: Katrina Van Tassel

Miranda Richardson: Lady Van Tassel / Crone

    Michael Gambon: Baltus Van Tassel

Touching and enjoyable, dark and stylized, another fantastic Johnny Depp/Tim Burton collaboration. Love the shades of black and lack of colour.

Fabulous cast, beautiful back story and flashbacks, Christopher Walken is chilling as the headless horseman.

The beautiful eerie cinematography is only equaled by the gorgeous lavish musical score and sound.

I also love all the fantastical sounding names of all the characters like Ichabod Crane or Baltus Van Tassel even Katrina Van Tassel. Really has a turn of the century feel to it.

Johnny Depp portrays Crane with a whimsical scientific playfulness who doubts everything at the beginning. Gradually the odd occurrences and witnessing first hand some of the atrocities at work make him see.
Crane is also a troubled hero who has a dark and murky past with sad memories, you really feel for him and Johnny milks this for all its worth playing on the audience's primal emotions.

Christina Ricci was very cute and sexy as Katrina Van Tassel, an accomplished actress wo maintains expression and resonance.

I liked how Christopher Lee was at the beginning as the Burgomeister. Was a little disappointed he wasn't in it long, such a great actor.
Ive noticed he's in Charlie & the chocolate factory and Corpse Bride also featuring Johnny Depp.
Also noticed for credit's note that Ian Mcdiarmid and Christopher Lee are in something outside of the Prequel Star Wars saga. Not that they share screen time on this mind of course. Just noticed that.

Overall another Tim Burton masterpiece in my eyes that oozes with that magical insight into his world, his mind, his imagination.

    Brilliant!!
So funny and dark! It's without doubt a classic.
Tim is a genious and Johnny a 5 stars actor. What more could we ask?

Danny Elfman's music is haunting and jaggedly elegiac, the perfect underpinning to the movie's look. full review
