Love Tim Burton as always, but this film tends to get a little too 'cute' for it to be fantastic. Good acting by Johnny Depp and Christina Ricci and Miranda Richardson and Christopher Walken as well despite his small role.
A dark and gothic tale that benefits from Tim Burton's trademark whimsical and fantasy style. The conspiracy was hard to follow but the cinematography was excellent and the setting was very twisted and creepy. Worth renting. (2.9.08)
Johnny Depp's Ichabod Crane is no longer a teacher, but a constable, from New York City, who is sent to the small and soporific town of Sleepy Hollow, NY. He believes that he will be investigating random acts of decapitation, and is quite thrown, but skeptical when it is believed a headless horseman is behind the slayings. It isn't until later when he witnesses a murder first hand by the Headless Horseman (Christopher Walken) does it sink in. Johnny Depp is very good as Ichabod, getting the gumpy mannerisms, walk, speech, and other patterns down so as that it plays like a perfect caricture. The gizmos and the clothes, and the way Depp carries himself in the film all lend to the compleation of his personality. Tim Burton may well be one director who pays more attention to the unison of photography, music and particularly production design in pursuit of one vision than any other director. One of the best things about a Tim Burton film is when Burton forgets about being quirky and subsumes his tendency toward kitsch, bizarre weirdness toward the seamless whole of the mood. The supernatural thriller plot seems ultimately a little too calculated and never one that holds you pinned with unfolding surprises. And while the film is very well directed, there's never any scene that stands out.

Ichabod Crane: "Kill it! No, no! Stun it!"
sounds interestin and my english teacher pointed out a sence were he is dreamin ab his mother in 1 of those box w the nails stickin out (yes, idk the actual name of it) and that caught my interest along w the old tale of sleepy hollow it self
Dark and mysterious, Sleepy Hollow could really be a horror classic, but in no way did captivate me. I, just like Ichabod Crane, always tend to look for the logical explanation, and I was shocked and totally disappointed to find out it was really a headless horseman. I know it's a tale, but even from Tim Burton's magical hands, I couldn't buy it this time.
The cast is great, and Walken's appearance as the horseman was really kinda cool.

My review:
Sleepy Hollow is my third favourite Tim Burton film. The closest Tim Burton film that Sleepy Hollow is similar to is Sweeney Todd because of the extremely dark story, how the film is made, it stars Johnny Depp who wears similar sort of clothes and the blood is similar compared to Sweeney Todd. It is like comic blood like Sweeney Todd but Sweeney Todd is more graphic than Sleepy Hollow but Sleepy Hollow is scarier. It is a weird title really because Sleepy Hollow is a little town. Who would call a town Sleepy Hollow? The classic story of "The Legend Of Sleepy Hollow" is brought to life by the gothic film maker Tim Burton. In 1799, Johnny Depp plays Ichabod Crane, and to win the heart of Katrina Van Tassel he will have to brave the nearby woods, even though several decapitated bodies have been found. And then the legend of the axe wielding headless horsemen come together to make this movie. Ichabod Crane is a detective in New York City and he is sent away to Sleepy Hollow to investigate the murders of the villagers of Sleepy Hollow by Headless Horseman. Johnny Depp plays Ichabod Crane really well because Ichabod is a serious character but a really bizarre one aswell because he dresses and appears weird in a serious way aswell just by doing his job. Christina Ricci was good in this film as Katrina Van Tassel who is the daughter of the richest man in Sleepy Hollow Baltus Van Tassel. Christina had the beauty for the character but not quite the acting talent to play the character. I liked Miranda Richardson as Lady Van Tassel and Michael Gambon as Baltus Van Tassel. Christopher Walken was really good as the Headless Horseman and so was Ray Park who does the actions of the headless horseman. The art direction, cinematography and costume design is very similar to Sweeney Todd. Both Sleepy Hollow and Sweeney Todd won Best Art Direction. Obviously this is a dark story but this isnt as dark as Sweeney Todd and it isnt as serious as Sweeney Todd neither. That is why I love these kind of Tim Burton films. That is why Sweeney Todd, Edward Scissorhands and Sleepy Hollow are my favourites from Tim because they are serious, magical and dark. I think that Sleepy Hollow is a masterpiece from Tim Burton and is on my favourite films list.
this is one of the best horror tales addapted to a movie. johnny depp did an excellent job portraying the character of ichabod crane. everyone on screen did great. made it that more interesting to watch. it had great special effects when u saw the headless horseman decapitate the ppls heads. i also liked the mood of the movie. it made the movie so spooky to watch. overall, this is one of the best horror movies ever made. i recommend this movie to everyone who hasnt seen it. it sure is one entertaining horror movie to watch over & over again, especially on halloween.
To be honest I thought this was going to be sorta corny but I ended up really liking it! I hope I never have a dream about Christopher Walken's face from this movie. Yikes! LOL
Sleepy hollow was amazing. Jonny Depp was awesome & the hot Grandma[Kev:P]. This movie was really cool and creepy. The main chick looked too young and she frightened me...But don't get me wrong this movie was awesome
Ichabod Crane, a very interesting name. This is a rather poor enactment of a horror story about a headless ghost haunting a village, killing its victims and riding away on his horse with his victims heads. An enlightening plot but the characters a rather dull, as is the setting as it unfolds.
Tim Burton did a great job creating a scary movie; it actually startled me the first time I saw it--AND THAT'S HARD TO DO. Love the creepy, gothic set of this movie as well. Heard that they had to start from scratch!
I FREAKED OUT WHEN THE GUY CUT OFF THE LADY'S HEAD. (that's in this movie right?) well i was only 9 or 10 when i saw it so of course i would freak out.
The Legend Of Sleepy Hollow: A classic horror tale from hundreds of years ago. In 1999, filmmaker Tim Burton directed an excellent adaptation. Johnny Depp and Christina Ricci are both marvelous as the leads who are under attack from a headless horseman. With a total of 18 beheadings, the film is definitely gory, but isn't so much scary. It relies more on atmosphere. Beautiful cinematography top off another excellent Depp/Burton collaboration.
Sleepy Hollow is a fantastic movie. Johnny Depp is brilliant as Ichabod Crane couldn't think of anyone else who could have played this role any better. also great performances by Michael Gambon and Christopher Walken.
i saw this movie so many times my dad kept making me watch it and this movie used to scare when i was a kid well there were some parts that were scary and i did know that johnny depp was in here well idk i was just a fuckin kid but i liked this movie such a gd horror ficlk i think it was horror well yea its a horror and tim buron made this movie thats why its so fuckin gd
