Plot: A special double disc package, Voliminal: Inside the Nine takes the viewer on a several hour journey into the world of Slipknot as the band recently circled the globe in support of the multi-platinum ...( read more read more... )album Vol. 3: (The Subliminal Verses). Far from your usual tour film, Voliminal: Inside the Nine is more of an art piece - while fans are taken in the studio, on stage, backstage, on their tour bus and everywhere in between as they experience the energy of a band literally living, breathing and fighting for the music they created, none of it unfolds in ways you'd expect.

Disc 1, titled Voliminal, features a 90-minute film, created and directed by M. Shawn Crahan, better known as Clown, that gives the Slipknot fan a window into the world of the band as seen through the mind of its creator. The film was shot on hand-held cameras and, as a result, is brutally honest and visually unique. The sound and visual edits are intense, disturbing and jarring while the cinematography brings the viewer as close as one can get to the band. Buried in Disc 1 are nine different "rabbit holes," which, when activated, will show a short vignette of each one of the nine members of the band. Not the typical extra footage often found as "easter eggs" on the average DVD, this footage contains some of the most surprising and revealing elements on the DVD.

Disc 2 features three main elements: live footage, music videos and interviews with each member of the band. The live shows were captured at various venues around the world and show Slipknot in unique and somewhat unconventional settings. Everything from outdoor and daytime shows all the way to television award-show performances are included as are the celebrated music videos for "Duality", "Vermilion," "Before I Forget," "The Nameless," and the controversial video for "Vermilion 2," which was never officially released. Additionally, for the first time ever, fans get an up-close look at the band's "Death Masks" used onstage during this tour.

The interviews on this disc are just as groundbreaking as anything the band has ever done. After twelve years, everything is about to change. Nothing is held back and everything is discussed.

Slipknot is the nine piece, ground-breaking, hard rock band out of Des Moines, IA that has sold over 5 million albums in the U.S. on three studio albums. Their last studio album Vol. 3: (The Subliminal Verses) was released in May 2004, debuting at #2 on the Billboard Top 200 Chart and has sold over 1.5 million copies in the U.S. to date. The album broke new ground for the band and spawned the hit singles "Duality," "Vermilion" and "Before I Forget." In November 2005 the band released Slipknot 9.0: Live, a GOLD certified double live album.

The twisted mind of Shawn(the clown) is just to much it gives me the chills both good and bad, the man is truly an artist at what he does hands down.

The film itself was solid and unrealistic. It was just a montage of poorly edited tour footage by Shaun Crahan. It was too jumpy and some footage was there for no reason. It wasn't even intersting because you were really getting into one scene and then it jumps to another. The second disc was what made this good. The live performances and interviews were wicked and the music videos are always good.

Not really a film as it is a behind the scenes extra and a set of videos, but hey I've been a Maggot since 2001. I'll give it a try.

The behind the scenes on disc 1 are neat... but it's disc 2 that is a real treat: live vids, music vids and individual vignettes with each of the 9 members. This is insightful stuff.

The Movie will appear as a jumbled up mess to those who only pop it in and get turned off by the first few minutes but for the "maggots" this is a must see with some awesome editing and some pretty cool effects to keep it interesting. Definately worthwhile for the true fan. That said the second disk is the meat of this package and is entirely worth the price on its own with all the interviews, videos, and live footage.

This was a good film. But to be honest, it didn't really tell you about the Vol. 3 tour. It just had clips of Slipknot, their tour van, a man with a shark mask and random other clips. I think it's not what people expected because it says about it on the back cover but it doesn't really give you the full detail. Some effects were unecassary but I did think Shawn Crahan tried to make it more interesting. I honestly have to say, it wasn't that bad.

This is the worst DVD of slipknot. The second disc is brillant but the first is boring. 90 minutes of junk. This "Movie" show inside 2 year of slipknot's life! sometimes it's very boring. This video makes you feel like you don't understand

Many words can explain this. The film was weird at some points, some of the videos weren't worth being put there but the editing is great. It's different. It doesn't really give you a good point of the full 10 years of Slipknot. Mainly the last two years with the Subliminal Verses tour. The interviews give a pretty good point-of-view for each member except for Craig Jones who didn't say anything and his face was blurred. The music videos are good and The Nameless has good editing and if you watch it carefully, it has a few clips from the actual Voliminal movie. The live performances are always good. I reckon The Heretic Anthem was their best live performance. It's still good. You get to see a three minute part of each member including them onstage, them with their mask in production, them unmasked and them with their death masks. The live Vermillion song was good because they had their death masks, but they also cut out a lot of the song. It's the same with the official music video. It sounds different to the actual song. The film is a bit hard to understand at first, but this is definately for all maggots.

People have had mixed reviews of this dvd, and I can see why. I started watching it expecting what I've heard, and I have to say it was better than what I was expecting. I do agree that the packaging is misleading, the information on the back of the dvd makes it seem like there is more than what is actually on the dvds.
I do have to say that I did enjoy the Slipknot "home movies", it was a great view. This is certainly not for everyone. But I recommend it to any other "maggot" :)

This dvd was so awesome! The 1st disc you have to watch all the way through... and wait for the good parts... it gets better progressively through the movie... The 2nd disc has the interviews with the band without their masks and it downright awesome!
