Sigourney Weaver, Sam Neill, Monica Keena

Based somewhat more authentically on the Grimm Brothers' story of a young woman who is unliked by her stepmother, the film includes the talking mirror, a poisoned apple, and some ruffian gold (not dia...( read more  read more... )mond) miners (and they aren't dwarfs or cute). It takes place at the time of the Crusades, and depicts the attitudes of the wealthy and the peasant classes toward one another.

If Nursery Rhymes were derived from certain events in history, why cant fairytales be glossied up stories of certain people from the past?

    The fairy tale is over.
<...( read more)br>The Grim Brothers rewrites the classic childrens story into a more realistic, dark and horrifying life story of a young girl from a prestigious family.

Set in medieval Europe, the story starts off in the middle of winter while the Hoffmans are travelling home. Lady Lilliana Hoffman is with child and is weary from their previous engagement. As their carriage passes by the woods, the group is spotted by a pack of hungry wolves...

Sam Neil, Sigourney Weaver and Gil Bellows (Billy, from Ally McBeal) takes the house down with their great performance in this 1997 TV movie. I thought one of the seven 'dwarfs' looked like Chris Benoit, which was interesting and "personally funny" at the same time.

There were parts in the movie that I thought I was watching a theater play, and Monica Keena reminded me of Frodo in a dress... but then again I also hated Kristin Kreuk in "The Fairest of them All", so maybe its just me reacting to the chosen pretty one.

A dark, delectible syrup. An interesting story and an outstanding performance by Sigourney Weaver. Loved the shocking twists.

Extra extra! Read all about it!
"Weaver's critically-acclaimed performance earned her an Emmy Award-nomination as well as a Screen Actors Guild-nomination as Outstanding Lead Actress in a TV Movie.
The film also earned two Emmy nominations for Makeup and Costume Design."

Easter egg: Ever thought about how some people degrade others? Think about what yould call someone who yould find lowly.

Snow White: A Tale of Terror is your classic take on the tale of Snow White but done in a more true form as to the original story. It takes the family friendly Disney film and turns it on its head with this very dark and sinister version.

Monica Keena stars as Lilliana (...( read more)aka. Snow White) whose mother died during an accident while pregnant with her, which forced her father to cut Lilliana out of her mother. Lord Hoffman dotes on his daughter, although she is anything but spoiled, considering everyone around her apart of her life. To her dislike, her father decides to bring Claudia into their lives to be his new wife. From the start, Claudia tries to care for Lilliana, but you can see her hatred stewing... Over the years, as Lilliana grows older and more beautiful (and after the lose of her own child), Claudia takes matters into her own hands to get rid of Lilly once and for all...

I remember watching this darker version when I was a child and really enjoying it. Instead of meeting up with the caring dwarves, Lilly comes across a gang of bandits, who soon warm up to her and even care for her. The casting was very well done and we see many different aspects of the varying characters, from the evil Claudia and Lord Hoffman, to Lilly and the bandits, one of which she falls for.

Overall, if you are looking for a darker film, check this one out, as it is rather enjoyable and an all around good movie.

A different take on the Disney cartoon. Definitely not for kids.

Dark fairytale that tries to push the gothic tale to another level. It is definately different from the tale of our childhood with no dwarves and challenging the social classes. However, as a horror flick it leaves much to be desired.

"Never look a raven in the eye for too long. It might steal your soul and fly away with it."

This was a cool adaption of the original fairy tale. I'm always up for a dark story and this was pretty good at delivering it. Sigourney Weaver did a nice job playing the evil ste...( read more)pmother. She was quite convincing. This movie did remind me of Ever After because of the stepmother and the scenery. Speaking of the scenery, the forests were absolutely stunning. They did a great job with the ambiance of the movie. I just don't understand why this is rated R; it seemed pretty tame to me. I was expecting more of a horror movie because it has 'terror' in the title, so I was kind of disappointed with that. It has a few weird and scary moments but nothing that would keep you up at night. I wish they could of done something different with the ending as it seemed abrupt and it could have been a little longer as well. But all in all, it was an enjoyable movie. I'm surprised I hadn't checked it out sooner.

Hauntingly gothic and engaging. Beautiful cinematography and imagery of what is my favorite fairy tale. Suffers a bit from some occasional cheesy horror one-liners and gore but other than that a stately gothic horror tale.

Haven't seen it yet, but it certainly doesn't look like a family or a kids film, so why does it have the Kids & Family genre tagged to it?
