a random journey into the confusing realm of if it's sex, it must be love. Getting people to strip off and do things with you is NOT love.

The character of Joe is quite odd, as he tries to figure out what he wants ...

Good movie. Intense and vulnerable. The music helps the movie flow very well. I'm definitely going to get the soundtrack.

A beautiful movie about a girl who runs away from home and the problems she faces. She gets work at a ski lodge and falls for a boy but, in her inexperience, mistakes sex with love. Abbie Cornish gives a very honest and real performance.

It was a bit unstructured for my taste but overall a innovative story with a complex, and therefore realistic, main character. I enjoyed it while it lasted but I will probably forget this movie pretty fast.

Absolutely brilliant and a joy to watch. The cast are amazing especially Cornish she just blew me away, Worthington very charming too it will be interesting to see him in T4 and James Camerons Avatar.
Somersault is a coming of age tale about 16yr old heidi who leaves home after her mother catches her in the arms of her boyfriend(the mothers bf). Heidi's journey is a beautiful one a young girl acting far beyong her years, very impressive directorial debut by Shortland. I just can't say enough good things about it, an honest insight into a young girls innocence and sexuality. Go see it

Have you ever had seen a film that was a critical darling, watch it for yourself and find you wondering what they saw in the film that you appear to be missing? That's the experience I had while watching this one long awkward moment of a film.

My biggest problem with the film was the lack of empathy I had for the characters. Especially the character played by Abbie Cornish. Does this girl know how to live around people or was she raised by wolves? Does she have any sense of restraint or an understanding of the concept of consequences? If the film's best defense is that it's showing what the average teen goes through, the making of mistakes and all, I'm glad I wasn't an average teen because some of her actions border on downright stupid.

And was it really necessary to have the leading male swear so nonchalantly? I'm not a prude and I've seen Tarantino films so I'm used to frequent cursing but it doesn't work when you just use it in a normal tone. Without a hint of anger or fear or any other real emotion, it comes across as forced.

This movie just angered me in so many ways, I honestly don't see how people could be like that in real life. Yes, they make mistakes but a lot of them do seem to learn something from them and have better interaction skills. Very easily one of the worst films I have, and ever will have, seen.

I was surprised by this movie, in what it had to say and in what it had to examine. I didn't expect much at first & then I expected less, but it had something more. Bravo!

    Love can turn you upside-down.

Seeking work in the snowfields of Jindabyne, Heidi (Abbie Cornish), aged 16, meets a sympathetic motel owner, Irene (Lynette Curran), who offers her a place to stay. In her naive manner, Heidi meets Joe (Sam Worthington), a wealthy farmer's son. Clinging onto what the relationship could possibly offer her, Heidi gives herself to Sam, only to be disappointed when her feelings are not reciprocated. To overcome her internal struggles, confusing sexual intimacy with love, Heidi seeks to respond to her past and to the hurt she has caused others.

Sensational moving story about a runaway sixteen year old girl seeking true friendship and love following a disastrous falling out with her mother.

Fending for herself with no money and little in the way of people extending friendly hospitality her way, Heidi is forced to pursue new relationships with an insatiable appetite.

ts fascinating watching her practicing her smiles, compliments, and thoughts of sincere gratitude repeatedly in the mirror as she searches for just the right approach to take with her out into the world just as one would expect from a girl her age.

Outstanding use of delicately enchanting musicbox music suitably capturing the youthful spirit of Heidi's (played by Abbie Cornish) curious quest for belonging. Music and score so perfectly fitting and complimentary that it lifts the film to a whole new level of absorbing greatness similar to what was accomplished ever so masterfully in Sling Blade.

Rather bold and erotic captivating performance by Abbie Cornish in so many varying respects.

She gives a remarkable showing throughout the entire feature making the audience fall in love with both her character Heidi and her passionate desires to be accepted, liked, and loved from others.

The accents are pretty thick and sometimes difficult to understand at times to the point where I had to rewatch a few key scenes just to get the full intended dialogue effect.

Somersault is a touching and sensitive journey with some intensely moving moments.

Particularly fond of Heidi's walk in the cold where she's singing a childhood song to herself clapping her new red glove adorned hands together.

Such a striking contrast with the red gloves chosen by Director Cate Shortland. She notes in the special features red represents passion and blood here.

One of the better arthouse films from Australia, Abbie Cornish is brilliant and an under rated actor.

Best movie to come from Australia in a long time if ever, in my opinion. Stunning, bittersweet tale. Beautiful soundtrack.

A bit of a mixed bag. The cinematography was the best I've seen in a long, long time. The film is beautiful for sure. Abbie Cornish is captivating and puts in a very good performance. Unfortunately I never really got caught up in the story. In my opinion, there wasn't enough character exploration or growth, just a lot of bed-hopping, nudity, and sex scenes. Overall, I think I was somewhat disappointed, which is unfortunate, because this is a movie that I wanted to like, and it had a lot going for it.

The nuttiest turd of a film ever known to man. Despite it's nice cinematography, watching it makes me ashamed to be Australian.

After trying to lay her mother's boyfriend Heidi heads off on a solo adventure and enters into a few sexual adventures of her own and learns a few truths before being collected by a forgiving Mother. Not terribly convincing. This 16 year old did not act like a 16 year old would upon runing from home me thinks!!!

This film can improve itself because of Abbie Cornish's performance in it, and she did as well as her later work, Candy.

Heidi(Abbie Cornish)'s life was like doing a somersault. Just jump down and get some points, but she jumped too fast, that creates a disaster to her life.

I'm still cannot believe that teenage girl like Abbie can play the very hard and confusing role like Heidi in this film.

Hard to judge this movie really. Whilst the performances are good and the visuals are lovely, the story is quite lacklustre. It goes along and you wont really be bored but frankly its just not that involving. The focus needlessly shifts to other charachters thus making it difficult for the film to find a focus. Not difficult to see why it won so much accolade as its technically flawless but just without any passion or involvement.

This film really is well directed and filmed. It follows a few days in the life of a runaway in Australia who ends up at a ski resort desperately looking for someone to love her. It captures the confusion of a girl who doesn't feel loved very well. Definitely worth a watch.
