This movie was a bit slow throughout. It was really not that scary, and was a bit confusing after a while. The twist in this movie was not that good either.
I can say with confidence that I don't have a damn clue what happened in Soul Survivors. Was it all a dream? A nightmare? Is Cassie dead? Alive? In-between? I dunno. Writer/director Steve Carpenter's script is just way too muddled to be even remotely close to coherent. Dead characters pop up, they disappear. Other characters, presumably, have connections to the dead, but we're never sure why or how. Events in the film often take place twice or three times, sometimes completely different from the original incident. In other words, it's all very confusing. Casey Affleck as the dead boyfriend and Luke Wilson as the kindly Father Jude both have charisma. Casey Affleck (Sean) delivers when he?s onscreen, his baby blue eyes help him a lot and his soft voice comes through. Wes Bentley (Matt) doesn?t play a psychopath but he sure looks like one.
Wasn't that good to much weirdness...at some points wasn't sure of what was going on...thought Casey Affleck was cute but the movie could have been better.
What the f**k was that? This is what happens when a young filmmaker tries to be too clever for his own good, and attempts to make an intelligent, thought-provoking thriller. All we get is a stupid, self-indulgent pile of stinking turd. Well done.
Decent cast. Unique story line. Script was okay. I found it hard to follow the first time. But after I found a better explination and synopsis I understood it better. So it was a pretty good movie over all. Lots of differant twists.
Director Stephen Carpenter trouts out every horror-flick cliche in the book, to little effect. Even the "surprise" ending is a cop-out, and would only surprise these who aren't paying attention.
For a mediocre predictable movie full of substandard acting and with a lame ending I actually enjoyed this. Whether it was because how the main character ran (Melissa Sagemiller) was amusing or because it was good for late night trash I don't know, I just enjoyed it.
Where to start...? Okay, here's what's terrible about this film: -the casting of Eliza Dushku -the lack of story (which, um, is pretty vital) -Wes Bentley's acting (in other films he's not bad, but in this - ) -every item of clothing in this film. It's like the worst of the nineties, but present in 2001. -the music -the lack of scary moments and chills -the unsexiness from an otherwise okay looking cast -underuse of Luke Wilson -the running time. A film like this shouldn't last more than 10 minutes -the opening credits
Here's what's good about the film: -Wes Bentley's face -the fact that no one has heard of it -when everyone died -Luke Wilson -when it ended.
eliza dushku in this super natrual thriller ..girl is seriously hurt in car accident (not eliza)and makes a wholeworld of her own when she is unconsious
Two years after 20th Century Fox released its melodramatic disaster film Titanic in 1953, Walter Lord's meticulously researched book A Night to Remember surprised its publishers by becoming a phenomenal bestseller. Lord had an intuition...
Highly anticipated supernatural-thriller is a high-end let down. Interesting premise is wasted in a sea of confusion and a cast of wooden might-have-beens. :D
Same tired formula. 1. Get a bunch of young and sexy actors and actresses. 2. Add some pschopathic killer. 3. Watch young and sexy actors get butchered like tuna fish. Cha-ching!
Not many people i know like this film at all, and i just dont see why they dont.
I think its really good the way it twists at the end - it was different to what i had seen at the time so i really liked it and still do.
I only saw this movie because I'm a big Eliza Dushku fan. Unfortunately, the movie's poster is a little misleading - Dushku dominates it in the front which would suggest she takes on the lead role. Alas, she's more of a supporting cast member, and Melissa Sagemiller, who is oddly lost into the background of the poster, is the film's lead. I saw 'The Killer Cut' version of this film - there was one new scene at the beginning which looked like it had just been thrown in for fun - totally random and never addressed at a later stage in the film. Also, there was a certain deleted scene included on the DVD which, if included in the original movie, would have helped viewers greatly in unraveling an otherwise confusing and convoluded story.
