One of the few Mel Brooks movies that I can tolerate. There are so many talented actors in this movie. And the spoofs are hilarious. Pizza the Hut is great. I still hear people quote this movie and it always comes up in conversations. It's a decent link while playing Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon due to the diverse cast. Rick Moranis usually gets on my nerves but he did a decent job. The chest burster gag is great. I can still see the top hat and cane dance number. The part where Moranis slams into the control panel is great too. So many good parts...
In a distant galaxy, the home planet of the Spaceballs is in danger of losing all of its oxygen. The largest ship in the Spaceballs' fleet, Spaceball One, is sent to drain the nearby planet of Druidia of all its atmosphere.
On Druidia, a princess (Daphne Zuniga) is about to be married to the last available prince (JM J. Bullock), but she runs off and the princess runs away because she doesn't want to marry this man. The king (Dick Van Patten) hires the rogueish "Lone Starr" (Bill Pullman) and his partner, "Barf the Mawg" (the late John Candy).
As they run from Spaceball One, commanded by "Dark Helmut" (Rick Moranis), they meet the master of the Schwartz, "Yogurt" (Mel Brooks, in one of two roles).
The movie is packed with many sight gags and jokes. None of which are offensive. There are very few scenes where there isn't a joke.
The cast is spectacular and deliver the jokes wonderfully. The chemistry between every actor is fantastic.
The visuals are well done. There are however at least one special effect that looks fake. There is also a scene with actors in makeup reminiscent of a cult classic 1960's sci-fi movie that appears to be worse than the original makeup in that movie they are paying tribute to.
Brooks has put together a wonderful comedic tribute to science-fiction movies that isn't violent like some other movies. There is some strong language and a few gestures that children should not see if they are real young.
If you are looking for a funny movie with a lot of good laughs, this is one of the ones you should check out.
A first-class spoof of a genre that had graduated to spoofable by that point; made when spoofs were still artistic - now, they are just unseemly (e.g. "Scary Movie", et al). Although this movie spoofs contemporary sci-fi in general, it obviously is 80% based on Star Wars. My question is, why can't Star Trek get a treatment like this . . . . and NO, Galaxy Quest does NOT count, 'cause it blows.
Spaceballs is clearly a spoof of the first Star Wars trilogy, done a little too late. Were it 1985 when this came out, it would have carried more weight. The legendary John Candy is in it, and he cassries enough weight, so it's okay.
silly goofy fun spoofing star wars..john candy was talented....Mell Brooks strikes again!! if you enjoy his humor and liked Star Wars, by all means see this...if you are unaware of either, all the gags will zoom right over your head...
Possibly the greatest take off of the Star Wars films ever, and yet another demonstration of Mel Brooks' genius. Not only some great spoofs of Star Wars, but a few other golden moments that are simply fantastic.
THIS IS A MOVIE MENT TO MAKE YOU LAUGH. IT IS LIKE SCARY MOVIE BUT FOR STAR WARS. I THINK IF YOU ARE HAVING A BAD DAY YOU SHOULD WATCH THIS MOVIE. IT WILL CHEER YOU RIGHT UP.
OMG... if you are honestly trying to find a review of this movie, then just stop and go watch it. This movie is a MUST SEE for everyone - even if you don't like it - because in your lifetime, you will run into at least ten people who quote something from this film, and if you don't know what they are doing, then they will look at you like you're an alien!
I'd probably give it more but I haven't seen it, in a while. I remember laughing a lot. But if you haven't seen the Star Wars saga, just don't bother to watch it, you won't understand half the jokes.
great movie who direct by mel brooks(also starring dual role too). parody to "star wars" rest of the film.
and also spoof in "planet of the apes" and "alien".
Evey sci-fi fan owes it to themselves to watch this at least once. A goofy, over the top and genuinely funny film full of slapstick humour, sight gags and witty one-liners that lampoons every popular sci-fi film of the '70s and '80s, hardcore genre fans could spend hours just playing "spot the reference."
Great Spoof on Star Wars very funy Mel Brooks film Mel Brooks as Yogurt (instead of "Yoda")Lone Star instead of "Han Solo" and Pizza The Hutt instead of "Jabba The Hutt".
