Excelsior, as Stan Lee would say! It shows what fans have been waiting for, but I thought Spidey was more of a wise ass and Tobey plays him as a sheepish nerd. It still works well, but I wish "Buffy the Vampire Slayer's" Nicholas Brendon could have gotten the role. Also, Green Goblin did not need a cheesy helmet! good, none the less.
Good movie, despite the fact that they totally missed the mark with the main character, and they covered Willam DaFoe's face in that lame helmet - he was perfect for the role.
Great take on Spidey. I loved how Sam Raimi replicated Spidey's moves and poses from the comics. Tobey is great in the role. Kirsten Dunst is a little annoying.
Very entertaining comic turned into an action flick very well casted and very well done. I yet to see Spider-Man 3 do to my schedule but I want to and I hope it holds up to my expectations.
This is the movie that got me into Spider-Man. I didn't like it too much till I saw this and I really enjoyed the plot and all and the characters. The cast was a great choice but there were some parts where I just wanted to strangle Mary-Jane. Oh well though, over all great movie.
Think what you want, but I am I huge Marvel fan. Spider Man is one of the best of the movies released by Marvel companies. Peter Parker, played by the brilliant Tobey Maguire, the nobody who then gets bitten by the radioactive spider, and becomes the hero Spider Man, while trying to start a relationship with Mary Jane Watson, played by the equally brilliant Kirsten Dunst. Throw in one of the best quotes ever (with great power comes great responsibility), and you have a recipe for sucsess. 4/5
I don't see Toby Maguire as well cast. I remember the Spiderman from teh comics... always wisecracking. Not wallowing in angst 24/7. Still, far more enjoyable than the sequel!
Tobery maguire is perfect for the role but feel sorry for him havng to fall in love with plain Kirsten Scott as Mary Jane. Much better looking and less annoying actresses out there.
The first one is probably my favorite. I think Tobey Maguire is a great choice for Spidey and really plays his character well. Doesn't hurt that Danny Elfman did the music either!
Spiderman is certainly not your average chick flick, but i loved it all the same! This movie has something for all ages and genders. Action and superheroes and villains for the guys and romance and a cute lead actor for the girls. I loved Willem Dafoe's portrayal of the Green Goblin, he was so evil! I cryed when Ben Parker died after arguing with Peter. I enjoyed the part where Peter is testing out his new powers and swings of the roof straight into a billboard!
Fantastic except for one thing. They messed up on the title character! Spider Man is the personification of teen angst, but he has always hidden that with humor and snappy one liners while in costume. The film version didn't tell a joke the entire time!
