Haku, listen. I just remembered something from a long time ago, I think it may help you. Once, when I was little, I dropped my shoe into a river. When I tried to get it back I fell in. I thought I'd drown but the water carried me to shore. It finally came back to me. The river's name was the Kahaku river. I think that was you, and your real name is Kahaku river.

    Directed by: Hayao Miyazaki

    My review:

Spirited Away is a masterpiece of animation because not just of his beautiful yet bizarre story but also because it has the qualities that changes things around in animation forever. This film is just so magical with a lot of heart and a lot of different styles of characters that have never been put to screen before. This film isnt just magical it is also really creative and inspiring because of its imaginative story. The plot is also very bizarre just like Princess Mononoke and all of Miyazakis other films. This film would have definitely failed if Miyazaki didnt direct or write the script of this film. I watched this film for the first time about 3 or 4 months ago. I rented it from LOVEFILM and thought it was awesome but need to see again but when I did I loved it even more. Chihiro is the main character of this film. She is moving to a new town with her mother and father but they stumble upon the entrance to the spirit world. When she arrives there she meets a young girl who befriends and looks after her when they both do their jobs together. When Chihiro starts to live there and get her job she is then known as Sen and she meets a young boy called Haku. He befriends her, keeps her from danger and he gives her advice. He works as Yubabas direct subordinate and does missions for her sometimes. He often transforms into a dragon which is his true form. Yubaba is the villain of this film. She is the leader of the bathhouse where Chihiro and Haku work. She is a bizarre looking character because she has a really large nose and an extremely large head. The most bizarre character of the whole film is called No Face. He is an really odd spirit who begins an interest in Chihiro because Chihiro lets it in the bathhouse because she didn?t want it to be in the storm on its own. When she does let it in No Face becomes a monster inside the bathhouse and eats an awful lot of food and even eats people sometimes. Despite what he does, Chihiro wants to help it and wants it to come with him on the train to visit Zeniba who is Yubabas identical twin sister. Zeniba is more of a friendly character than Yubaba. Lin is a worker at the bathhouse who then becomes Chihiros caretaker upon her arrival. Kamajii is an awesome character aswell because he is an old man who as six arms. He operates the boiling room of the bathhouse. This film will be a masterpiece for so many years. I reckon it is one of the greatest animated films of all time. It is certainly one of my favourite animated films and yet one of my favourite films of all time. This will probably always be Miyazakis best film and probably my favourite from him aswell. Miyazaki became one of my favourite directors of all time when I first saw his first film which was this and the first time I watched Spirited Away too. Masterpiece forever!!!

It goes beyond any fantasy with a beautiful animation inside. The story is very appealing and imaginative that always make you wondering when watching it. The morality of the story is simple, yet strong. I think it's one of the best animation I've ever seen, but somehow it lacks something due to the duration. Not that it's too short, but it's too long or seems too long.

My all time favorite anime movie ever! It was incredibly well done. The voice acting and translation was great and the whole moral behind the story puts a great deal of depth behind it. It was just amazing. I can't wait to see more movies like this one.

Chihiro is a very smart and resorceful 10 year old. Most girls her age would run and hide but she faces her fears and takes on a bathhouse for the thousands of Japan's gods and spirits, the entire time fighting to keep her memories of her parents and the human world. A beautifully done anime.

Wonderful movie. Absolutely beautiful animation and storytelling. You need someone with knowledge of spirit houses to fully comprehend the meaning of the story. Just as well my Thai girlfriend was on hand.

If only all films were as well made as this masterpiece. A beautifully drawn animated fantasy adventure that has an engaging story and imaginative characters.

The music and images give the film a timeless quality that ensure it will be a classic. I would rank this as my favourite film (5.5.07, 15.9.07, 29.7.08)

With SPIRITED AWAY, Hayao Miyazaki made a major breakthrough not in just Japan, but in many other countries around the world. In fact, it acquired the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature in 2002. Consequently, Disney has since released Miyazaki's output on DVD. However, while SPIRITED AWAY is an absolutely amazing animated feature worthy of five-star status, I wouldn't say it's Miyazaki's greatest feature ever. This surrealistic yet engaging story of a young girl struggling to free her parents from the curse of a greedy enchantress sometimes gets more hype than it deserves; it almost feels as if Ghibli's other works are compared unfavorably to this film. My personal gripe aside, SPIRITED AWAY is worth watching for its mesmerizing visuals and subtle, yet strong messages about simplicity and charm preferable to greed and consumption. Speaking for the English version, the cast does a very credible job with their characters, Suzanne Pleshette coming off best. However, Daveigh Chase as young Chihiro comes across as too high-pitched for my ears to handle. Even still, it's another top-quality English track from Disney. And if purists are unwilling to give even this highly-acclaimed dub a chance, there's always the Japanese version.

As always, I enjoy any kind of anime movie but Spirited Away has got to be one of the very best ones out there. It's art styles and story telling is truly epic and will have children in oo and awe and adults just dying to see what will happen next. Unlike other anime movies, this plot and the unusal creatures and characters that linger in this genre of movies will truly stand out above all. It's like the japanese version of Alice in Wonderland in some ways. I really recommend this movie not just for the anime fan but also for the average movie goer.

REALLY weird, and almost frightening in some parts. The best part is that it creates a universe not quite like anything you've ever seen or watched before.
