Plot: Rutger Hauer and Kim Cattrall star in this festival of stolen plots and embarrassing dialogue. Harley Stone (Hauer) is a tough cop. The kind of cop who lives by his own rules. The kind of cop who smok...( read more read more... )es, swears, and eats junk food. The kind of cop who slams people into walls to drive home a conversational point. If it sounds like you've seen this character before, you have. Split Second is not so much a movie as a cinematic crib sheet, cheerfully ripping off Jaws, Aliens, and Hauer's own Blade Runner, just to name a few. Which is not for a moment to suggest that the movie isn't fun to watch. Connoisseurs of horror-action also-rans will be in spasms of delight over everything from the ludicrous plot to the cookie-cutter dialogue ("They say he's the best." "He is.") to the incredibly misguided decision to have Stone eat chocolate truffles throughout the entire film. It is honestly sometimes hard to tell what is an intentional joke and what's just plain bad. Anyway, there's a serial killer rampaging through London in 2008 and Stone doesn't want a new partner, especially one with all that book learning and blah, blah, blah. Just turn your brain off and enjoy the magic. --Ali Davis

This sci-fi thriller is an average rip-off of the visuals of Blade Runner and the story line of Predator.

For a movie made in 1992, it really hit the nail on the head about 2008...except for the uber=strong rat-beast/humanoid thing...Its a damn good effort from Rutger Hauer To be a bad ass. He's a bit like Anthony Stewart Head from the Buffy series, but you know, a bad ass. Look, I don't feel like explaining it fully, but damn it, a mutant totally rips out peoples hearts and eats them. What the hell else do you need to know? If you can get a copy(its in the Moritorium so good luck) do so, because its bad sci-fi at its semi-best.

In a futuristic London, the rising sea levels mean that large areas are under feet of water. Hauer plays a cop who previously lost his partner to some strange creature. Now the creature is back and its after him.

I actually dug this movie. It was a little different than was was being churned out at the time and it totally brought back the coolness of 'Knights In White Satin' by The Moody Blues... as IF they ever went out of style.

Seriously though - it's fun. I recommend it.

Cliche and predictable, yet more fun than any recent hollywood monster. Cattrall was looking good in those days, and Hauer was the guy for this type of roles.

This was one of those good, campy action films filled with quirky characters and one liners that will make you groan, but stay with you for a very long time.

Worth seeing if only for the multiple (and totally unneeded) scenes of a topless (and actually still pretty!) Kim Catral in the shower. Honestly, how clean does this woman need to be? The creature is about as frightening as a man in a rubber suit can be, and Rutger Hauer is (obviously) just in it to make some rent money.

All the performances are superb and it is a shame that this movie was so overlooked at the time. Unfortunately now that it actually is the 21st century, it's a bit anachronistic.

Rutger Hauer makes bad movies good, that's all there is to it. This gleefully over-the-top sci-fi/action/horror yarn doesn't have any orginiality whatsoever, but that doesn't mean it's not entertaining. You can't miss this if you're a Rutger fan or even a sci-fi fan.

This is a very underrated science fiction film of the 1990s. A cool movie that takes place in 2008 London where the city is partially flooded cause of global warming. A London detective is investigating murders who he discovers that is is an alien creature. A great movie with a lot of action.

Caught this film on TV the other night and my god was it fun, Rutger Hauer's character, Harley Stone is just one of those really cool characters you instantly love. The plot is a silly, but the film does have the great idea of depicting London post ice cap melt. It really is just a great fun film with plenty of laughs along the way

The alien / demon is shite, but Rutger Hauer is excellent, so is his sidekick, who plays an anally retentive university cop. Doesnt take long for Hauers character "Harley Stone" to rub off on him!!

The "Big F***in' Guns" scene is worth watching for alone!

    "BIG GUNS....
    WE NEED MORE B...I.....G.....F***IN GUNS!"

Rutger Hauer is great as usual in this futuristic Cop versus Alien Type Demon film!

Crap ending but, it doesnt matter. The rest of the film is good.

If you can get your hands on this film on DVD, GET IT. It's quite rare.

Saw this movie last night for the first time in years. It's an enjoyably bad movie. Rutger Hauer looks like he's having fun with all the bad dialogue that he's spouting, along with everybody else in the movie.
An enjoyable bad movie is still better then a boring good movie.

Sort of campy, but fun(ny). Best line ever in a sci-fi movie: "We need to get bigger guns. BIG ****ING GUNS!"

Need to see it again. Will probably think it's crap now.
