Very heroic, loving, touching, and makes you realize what it means to be a kid with all the tiime in the world. Stephen King is a genius and the horror is still present just not as there as in "It" or "Rose Red" or "The Shinning" or "Misery" or in "Storm of the Century"

Teens go in search of a dead body and have many adventures along the way. Lots of memorable scenes from an all star cast make this film a must see.

am so happy i found a 5 buck bin of dvd's with this one it it! i always took a second look at young actors, usually they didn't have that "thing" but this crew did... incredibly powerful. i loved it years ago and love watching it still.

I think possibly my favourite film of all time. This film had me laughing, crying and just about feeling every emotion possible. It is very rare that you find a film like this. Its kind of changed me. Wil Wheaton, River phoenicx, corey feldman + Jerry O'connell make an AMAZING Cast. The quotes from this film are un-beatable. Rob Reiner + Stephen King are an unbeatable team. This film should be seen by everybody to make them appreciate their childhood.,

Look back at the 50s.
You see a culture shrouded in ethical behavior and in a way a very corny culture despite the occasional chopper riding bad asses of that time.
Leave it to Beaver suggests that every child in the 50s followed that behavior.
Look at the 50s in Stand By Me and you'll say Boys will be boys as you would today.
This is the childhood experience i never had... -
absolutely brilliant move!! funny, sad alittle scary and could not have been cast better. Cant believe its jerry o'connell as vern!! last scene with river walking away and fading out, EXTREMELY moving

This is a powerful and emotional story of friendship and childhood. The child actors are brilliant and there is fantastic chemistry between them on screen (and I normally don't rate child actors highly.)
The focus of the story is the emotional journey that the boys take rather than the actual journey they walk through. Well worth watching (1.5.08) -
I love this movie! It's a timeless film,a masterpiece!Four boys go on a quest to find not only a dead body but the true meaning of friendship and reality. It made me cry, laugh, rejoice and fear with Chris,Gordie,Vern and Teddy...

Stand by me is one of those rare films, that provokes so many different emotions. Its young cast are just so brilliantly realistic, and its script is both hilariously funny, yet so effective. It is a film about the truths of friendship, and is inspiring. Personally, it makes me grateful to be a kid, and is a reminder that my teenage years will possibly be my most memorable. Its not just about the humour, it touches on real life moral issues, but discretely, so that the film is down to earth, and realistic but also moving. It is one of few films that have had such an impact on me, and fewer films still have made me cry for different reasons; the first being for its humour, which is so well written and fitted to each of the characters perfectly, and secondly for its final scene, which brings the whole film back to a sense of reality after such a fulfilling journey. It is my favourite film of all time, which I can watch over and over again, and still be affected in the same way that I was the first time I watched it.

A defining movie of my childhood. Based on an amazing short story by Stephen King, and with an all star cast, this movie should be seen by everyone.

Still one ofmy favourites movies. Based on Stephen King's Short story "The Body", "Stand By Me" tells the tale of Gordie Lachance, a writer who looks back on his preteen days when he and three close friends went on their own adventure to find the body of a kid their age who had gone missing and presumed dead. The stakes are upped when the bad kids in town are closely tailing - and it becomes a race to see who'll be able to recover the body first. Great story about friendship.

i believe this film is slightly overrated, but it's still a great coming of age story. corey feldman makes my life.
-
Wonderful acting especially for River Phoenix! Consider their age! This movie tells us what we mean by model friendship. River Phoenix's words are really moving. Simple, joyful, enjoyable and touching as a whole. Another wonderful adaptation of Stephen King's novels!

"I never had any friends later on like the ones I had when I was twelve. Jesus, does anyone?"
Stand by Me is a timeless screen gem based on a Stephen King novella called 'The Body'. The film marks one of the best Stephen King translations to the big screen; this poignant, touching classic is quite simply a masterpiece.
Stand by Me is a film that follows three young boys about to enter their teen years; Gordie (Wheaton), Chris (Phoenix), Teddy (Feldman) and Vern (O'Connell). The plot is quite simple; Vern is underneath his house digging furiously for his pennies when he overhears a conversation regarding the final resting place of a missing boy who is presumed dead. The boy was hit by a train but has not been found by authorities. The four young boys decide that they want to be heroes and head off on a journey to find the corpse. They figure that if they report the location of the body to the authorities they'll get their 15 minutes of fame in the local newspapers. With this goal in mind they set out on a journey to the location of the body. This journey is filled with bonding and arguing that you'd come to expect from 12-year-old boys.
Not only is this a tender narrative but also a coming-of-age tale of young boys ascending into manhood. The film's story is told in flashback to narration by Richard Dreyfuss. The opening introduces us to Dreyfuss' character, which is followed by the aforementioned flashbacks that accurately display pre-pubescent males of the 1950s.
Dreyfuss' character amusingly uses a complex vocabulary while the title characters on screen speak so immaturely; cheaply throwing insults at each other and each other's mothers.
The problem with most child actors is that they usually fail to engage the audiences during complex situations. Stand by Me contains performances prominently by a group of boys between the ages of 11 and 12. Understandably, I was reluctant about this idea at first. Maybe it was Reiner's skilled directing, or maybe it was the acting talent of the four principal children; either way I found the acting to be stellar. I was astounded at the brilliant results achieved by the young actors. There's also a very recognisable Kiefer Sutherland who pops up as a typical teenager bully. Because I had seen so much of Sutherland's recent work I was shocked at how youthful he looks.
Thankfully the whole cast were given a remarkable script to feast on. The dialogue is realistic, as are the members of the cast. Some scenes called for sublime acting, especially when the boys were meant to be in tears. The young cast pull it off with wonderful results.
Stand by Me can't be missed because of how moving, touching and emotive the whole experience is. Stand by Me is a simple story but contains a powerful message about the ascension in adulthood. Memorable, riveting and brilliant. I can't believe it took me so long to finally watch this one. Funniest moment: the gross (but amusing) story about a young fat boy getting revenge on his enemies by initiating a barf-fest in a tent during a pie-eating contest. -
This movie is freakin' AMAZING! I still love this movie and I first saw it when I was like 10. It's one of the only movies I ever really connected with as a little kid (outside of the endless parade of Disney movies I got bombarded with) and probably one of the reasons I love movies as much as I do today! This is friendship at its finest people.

One of the few King novels that aren't scary being made into a movie. A group of kids hear theat there is a dead body and want to go see it. This is JUST WHAT little boys would do! I know I would have!
-
A great adaptation of a great coming of age story. Perfectly cast, and well executed. One of Reiner's best!
-
a classic! must watch. Great for all ages. If u liked It you'll also like this Steven King, but not nearly as similar.
-
An instant classic. If you've never seen this and call yourself a movie goer, then you need to get your ass in gear and watch a piece of film history. Yet, its sad to look back and realize what has become of all the potential from this movie. An awesome adventure of four boys who are on a path to seek a local boy's dead body. And all the while they grow up to be young men.
-
"Come on you guys, let's get moving."
"Yeah, by the time we get there the kid won't even be dead anymore." -
Awwwww i love this movie. If you haven't seen it then your as crap as a chocolate fire guard! nah im kidding. SEE IT!
-
Another 'friends forever' classic. The lives of four boys are changed forever when they go on a hunt for a dead body. Great performances from such a young cast.
