As they each arrive at the house, joyous reunions quickly turn into awkward meetings that bring up both sweet and painful memories. Rich (Aaron Stanford) and Samantha (Melissa Sagemiller) are the best man and maid of honor who are also toying with taking the next step towards the altar. Lana (Mena Suvari) is a neurotic actress with an unstable love life. When all the men she's ever slept with, the forlorn Pockets (Jon Abrahams), children's show host Donovan (Ethan Embry), and drunken actor Simon (James Van Der Beek), all show up for the wedding, chaos ensues. Rounding out the group are Quentin (Colin Hanks), a fast-talking agent who falls hard for the bride's sister (Marnette Patterson), Jennifer (Lauren German), the bride's former roommate with a secret, Franklin (Roger Avary), the definition of a wacky Hollywood director, and Jonathan (Xander Berkeley), the groom's long lost father battling addiction, attempting to reenter his son's life.

Not a memorable movie. I wouldn't watch it again.

Nothing extremely interesting happened. It's all been done before.

Standing Still is a dialogue-driven character piece about way too many twentysomethings' feelings & questionings to cover up in ninety minutes, but it somehow manages to leave an impression. Indeed, despite the fact that the plot really does go nowhere and we've heard this kind o...( read more)f story a bazillion times, director Matthew Cole Weiss and his excellent cast succeed in breathing life into these characters and giving the movie a natural, truthful ring. Nothing exceptional, but worth seing anyway.

I liked it a lot. It was funny and genuine type of movie. Good grroup of actors with a good story. Don't know why the critics didn't.

it is tried to build up a complex relationship between several characters, but in fact it is quite clear what happens... nevertheless, not a bad movie which deals with people in the mid-20s who have to take the next step in life. the characters seem to be made artificially for a ...( read more)kind of uniqueness; best example is van der beek... it's a "one time to see and then forget it"-flick

A funny and touching tale of second chances and life as you move into the next stage of your life, the rest of your life.

I gave this film half a star more than it really deserved, only because of the cast - I might be biased but I thought they did a great job with the story and script they were given.
This film left me totally confused about what I thought about it. Sometimes it just felt utterly ...( read more)cheap, using the F word in every other sentance to make it look cool, not to mention some of the jokes were just crude. But then some scenes were so utterly powerful, well acted and truthful that I couldn't help but be won over in some sense. Particularly the truth behind Michael's anger at his dad, and Pocket's and Lana's confrontation. There were parts of the story as well which just felt very false to me, Lana suddenly turning into a lesbian just seemed like a stupid addition to the story - I would have actually enjoyed the storyline if she had woken up and regretted what happened, but it just seemed so crazy that she wakes up with a girl she met the night before and then she's all up for going to London to be with this girl? Plus there was clear evidence that her and Pocket's still had feelings for each other and I just felt it was a cop out to not face it directly, yes the blow out between them was amazing, but their feelings for each other could have had a much bigger impact on the narrative than just one short scene.
The cast, as already stated, did a good job. I love Colin Hanks, Ethan Embry, Adam Garcia, Xander Berkeley and Amy Adams anyway, and I thought Jon Abrahams was fantastic - so it just makes it that much more of a let down that this film failed to live up to the amazing creation it could have been.

Standing Still is about a bunch of good friends united when one of them is getting married, and they all realize that each other have many things to figure out 4 years after graduating. It's at the point when they realize they are no longer kids, but they are not ready to take th...( read more)e responsibilities that adults need to take. Good message, but some stories were just too stereotypical.
