This is a film that forever changed the face of the motion picture industry. Even with the CGI effects and darkness of sci-fi, it holds up and keeps getting better every time it's seen.

One of the best movies ever. Seeing this film at the drive-in when I was 2 is my earliest memory. Star Wars would be perfect if it wasn't for the dialogue and the acting. I always go for the Han-Shoots-First version whenever possible but the Special Edition gets more shit than it...( read more) should.

This is a nice little film you might have heard of. Although I'm far from being an obsessed mega fan, I do like this film a lot because it reminds me of running around the playground at school pretending to be Chewbacca. Technically its quite far from being a brilliant film, it d...( read more)id have brilliant special effects for its time but in the long run, Lucus's reworking *ahem* of Akira Kurosawa's masterpiece, The Hidden Fortress, is a cheap and tacky remake. A pretty damn good cheap and tacky remake at that!

Errr, what can I say? you all know this, its the greatest movie ever made. Almost perfect, combined with the rest of the series its unbeatable. Even though its cheesey, hammy and very predictable its still probably the greatest film ever made, mainly due to its design and effects which STILL look good and better than modern films.

This film was everybodies childhood for people now in their 20's onwards, I find it so hard to believe that kids nowadays probably dont play Star Wars.

"Help me, Obi-Wan Kenobi, you're my only hope."

The movie that changed the world of cinema. After Star Wars, special effects started to take a bigger role in the business. A lot of people love this series, the original I mean, but I've never got that far.

"Star Wars" is pure ma...( read more)gic, that I can say from my heart. I've probably seen it more than enough. Nowadays, it just doesn't give that same feeling, that sensation of "Wow!".

George Lucas couldn't leave his masterpiece(s) alone, he had to go and add some new SFX. Why? Why change something that has already won the hearts of moviegoers.

"Star Wars" has some of the most memorable characters in the history of cinema. Darth Vader, Han Solo and the robot sidekicks C-3PO and R2 D2. The film also has a lot of action and humor.

All in all, it's the start to one of the best series in the world. But in my opinion, none of the Star Wars films are that strong alone, you gotta watch them together in the true movieamarathon way.

"I find your lack of faith disturbing."

Darth Vader and his Galactic Empire rule with an iron fist throughout the galaxy, the Jedi Knights are all but extinct, and the Rebel Alliance is fighting in a struggle to overthrow the space tyranny and restore peace and freedom for its people. The galaxy's new hope, an orphaned Tatooine farmboy named Luke Skywalker, leads space rogue Han Solo, surviving Jedi Knight Obi-Wan Kenobi, and two droids - R2-D2 and C-3PO - to rescue the imprisoned Princess Leia in the Death Star, the space weapon with enough power to destroy an planet entirely. The Rebel Alliance, meanwhile, is concentrating on destroying the weapon with their fleet of X-Wing fighters.

Star Wars was directed, produced, and written by George Lucas, who previously made THX 1138 and American Graffiti. Its excellent, talented acting cast includes the following:
    1.) Mark Hamill (Luke Skywalker)
    2.) Carrie Fisher (Princess Leia)
    3.) Harrison Ford (Han Solo)
    4.) Alec Guinness (Obi-Wan Kenobi)
    5.) Anthony Daniels (C-3PO)
    6.) Kenny Baker (R2-D2)
    7.) David Prowse (Darth Vader)
8.) James Earl Jones (Voice of Darth Vader)
9.) Peter Cushing (Grand Moff Tarkin)
    10.) Peter Mayhew (Chewbacca)
    11.) Denis Lawson (Wedge Antilles)

As a movie fan I would like to talk about a favorite film title from my childhood, and even today, I still enjoy watching it to recapture the viewing experience of it again and again. Officially titled as Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope, I think of the simply known Star Wars as THE BEST MOVIE EVER from the genres of science fiction, fantasy, action/adventure, and the box office blockbuster all rolled into one epic story of both galactic mythology and modern folklore that won't be forgotten for centuries to come. Not to mention that this is a film favorite among the geeks of the world!

During my first viewing of the film on TV at age 11, I had no idea that Star Wars was some sort of a modern-day fairy tale, given with elements such as knights, sword fights, and the rescue of a damsel in distress added along with a good text opening. I then fell in love with it and the sci-fi genre it was categorized in. Though superhero-dominated Saturday morning cartoons influenced my daydreaming fantasies, Star Wars actually helped me look to outer space and see how it would look like if different people fight over it while visiting alien worlds at the same time. And if they are any real heroes I can look up to, I can choose either Luke Skywalker or Han Solo. Kids aren't the only audience enjoying this space opera: The inner children of adults are enjoying it, too, as it recalls the nostalgic memories of watching Flash Gordon and the Wild West serials. In addition, Star Wars has a great instrumental music soundtrack composed by John Williams, the best I've ever heard on film - which is very dramatic and moving to fit in with the perfect action sequences.

Through the efforts of THX, Skywalker Sound, and Industrial Light & Magic, Star Wars made importance in motion picture history by radically changing how studios can make flawless special effects (SFX). Filmmakers of the time relied on puppets and clay and plastic model kits to build up the environment of the sets; I watched earlier sci-fi films where they used such effects, and I can tell you, they were very cheesy. Even 2001: A Space Odyssey manufactured better SFX that I sometimes say that modern sci-fi films started with that. But it was Star Wars that helped lower filming costs and changed film making technology with the use of computers. Without Star Wars and the success that followed it, would there still be later effects-laden titles like The Lord Of The Rings or Harry Potter? Would there still be Pixar? It's hard for me to imagine a world where Star Wars never existed, and sci-fi on film and TV would suck without their influences from it. But I'm glad this is a successful film, and its brand-name recognition resulted in five live-action sequels, one animated sequel, two made-for-TV movies, a holiday TV special, and four animated series - as well as many knock-offs made to capitalize the Star Wars success in later years.

For those who haven't seen Star Wars yet, you should check it out what I call a highly recommended classic that no one should miss. You'll remember how one sci-fi film from the 1970s influenced modern-day cinema and pop culture forever. As a special bonus, I would like to bring up following seven of my favorite quotes from the film, all of which will keep me awake at night:
1.) "Don't you dare call me a mindless philosopher, you overweight glob of grease." (C-3PO)
2.) "If there's a bright center in the universe, you're on the planet that is farthest from." (Luke Skywalker)
3.) "I find your lack of faith disturbing." (Darth Vader)
4.) "Watch your mouth kid, or you'll find yourself floating home." (Han Solo)
5.) "The force will be with you...always." (Obi-Wan Kenobi)
6.) "Would somebody get this big walking carpet out of my way?" (Princess Leia)
7.) "Evacuate? In our moment of triumph? I think you overestimate our chances. (Grand Moff Tarkin)
