Original film which in a way is also somekind of a theory for how the egyptian civilization could have been influenced. Of course it's very fantasy-like, but it's just a very interesting approach.
An ancient porthole gate to another world is discovered, and a team of explorers is sent in to meet the aliens. It turns out that Egypt qwas in fact built by aliens, according to this action space adventure. Jay Davidson is the gay alien leader. Inspired TV series Stargate SG-1, and a spin-off, Stargate Atlantis.
Cool and original concept-wise, but the script as a whole leaves much to desire. What still makes it into an above average sci-fi film though is its appealing sense of wonder and excitement (an attribute which also later came to permeate through the tie-in series, Stargate SG-1, which I've personally grown to become quite a big fan of).
Very interesting Sci Fi film. James Spader and Kurt Russell did a great job. The story was very good too. But Jaye Davidson really was creepy. The movie had nice graphics and a good cast. Nice piece of work.
I love stargate, It made way for the best sci fi show in the world. Okay thats an exaggeration, but i really like that show and i thought the movie was really good. Especially James Spader playing Daniel Jackson that was just funny. Coming from a huge stargate fan i am telling you watch this movie. Right now go rent it, buy it, whatever you have to do to get your hands on it.
Un idee davvero geniale sta alla base di questo film: e se gli dei egizi non fossero stati altro che alieni? Il film costruito su questa premessa è davvero avvincente!
This is the original Stargate, so you won't find Richard Dean Anderson or characters like sam and teal'c. And yes, James Spader is a much better Daniel Jackson, hands down
I liked the detail that went into recreating the ancient Egyptian language here. The movie to me seemed to be missing something, as if it were a pilot to a series, so did others, hence the 9 series of SG1 and the spinoff SG Atlantis.
do own it...But other people in my house are more into Stargate ...But me no i am not...but a realy good film...but to me you must know how to talk about this movie.
The first thing that drew me to this was the Egyptology it brought into it, I was only a kid when I first watched so and I remember loving it so much, I wanted to learn the language and meet Skaara. Well just recently I got to meet Alexis Cruz, making one of them dreams come true and I promised him that I would re-watch it just him for so I went off and brought it and found myself loving it a lot more the first time I watched it. For it's time it is very well done, I can see by far why it was turned into a TV show that of course was such a hit, everything about it keeps you glued to the screen, the costumes and sets are stunning, it will always be a timeless classic in my eyes, plus I do have to say that I love it and Skaara more now after meeting Alexis...hehe.
My memories about this movie is really vauge. But I do remember that this movie was really good, with it's great visuals, special effects, and imaginative story premise
Who'd a thought that when they made this film that a few years later it'd be turned into a very successful 10 year first run t.v series ("StarGate SG-1 and have a spinoff called StarGate:Atlantis")and Alexis Cruz was the only one from the film to play the same character in the t.v series when it first began
and am also interested in Egyptian Mythology and Pyramids.
Absolute favorite!! When I first saw this film it blew me away, one of the best sci-fi films. Traveling through space, alien planets, and a connection to ancient egyptian Gods. I love it! James Spader and Kurt Russell are amazing in their roles as Dr. Jackson and Col. O'Neil. The storyline and music are great, but the best is the jackel and falcon head custumes of Ra's guards and Ra himself. Amazing!!
This is a solid Sci-fi flick. A brilliant concept that wasn't executed to perfection or to greatness, which is disappointing. I personally haven't seen the show so I can't really compare this to whatever goes on in the series.
The movie feels quite short and they didn't explore the alien itself very much, which they really could and should have so we can have an idea on what that thing is. Still though the idea of ancient Egypt and the 'Gods' being an Alien race is such an interesting idea to throw into the big screen and kind of throws a bit of myth and theory into one of the wonders of the world.
