Plot: In the sequel to Paul Verhoeven's loved/reviled sci-fi film, a group of troopers taking refuge in an abandoned outpost after fighting alien bugs, failing to realize that more danger lays in wait.
Good watch if you're really bored, but all things considered; relatively terrible when compared to the first one.
Some sequels deserved to be made while others just don't. Starship Troopers 2 is more or less an average CGI filled direct to DVD sequel. The film more or less is about a group of Troopers on a derelict planet full of Arachnids that are out to get them.
They end up fighting off as much as they can until the group retreats to a small military bunker. They hold out until help arrives but only to end up fighting a new enemy instead.
Phill Tippett made his directorial debut with this film. He had a background of visual effects for films like Jurassic Park and With his knoledge, he delivered a pretty impressive visual treat. The thing that irritated me most was this film was shot in a sound stage but was shot as if it was an amateur film.
In the exterior areas there were tons of close up shots of the cast and barely could see the creatures. It seemed to me that the director didn't want to use much CGI in the beginning of the film. It irritated me a bit but it didn't stop there.
The first film was about traveling to different planets but the fact this one was set in one place seemed too out of place. I also didn't like that this was set up to be a horror movie as well. That alone felt very awkward
This film had alot of bad but there is some good in it. The film's Blu Ray transfer gave off a decent HD picture. I noticed alot of grain in some areas but in most it looked neat. The CGI bugs looked cool as well and looked to have brought more life into it.
It was a good transfer but not a solid one. Also the acting was decent. I wasn't amazed by the performances but they were decent. Also the amount of blood, gore and action in this film should amuse people who were fans of the first installment.
To my surprise this was a HUGE departure from the first but it was a decent film for direct to DVD.
Sadly the second title could not hold the ball compared to the first one but still nonetheless it was a good view.
These movies are meant to be bad, but I still enjoy them. This one was a bit worse than the rest because of the small scope of the narrative.
A very low-budget, straight to dvd sequel to Paul Verhoevens masterpiece. It's bad in so many ways that it would be pointless to even start to write them down. Avoid it like a date invitation from Britney Spears!
I saw a few minutes of it on some premium channel or other when I was flipping through TV channels- it was terrible.
Blatantly low budget compared to its predecessor, but it works because it is just as cheesy as the first movie and even lower budget. A bit of blood and guts never goes amiss though, but this films delivers the cheap thrills you expect from a straight to DVD release and never let?s up the pace until the end. Sure, it?s cheesy, but it?s what makes the Starship Troopers franchise so successful. It doesn?t have to be deep and meaningful, as even shallow people will enjoy the blood and explosions on offer that this film offers. To be honest, it has pretty convincing special effects and storyline considering its budget was that of a small comedy series.
This movie started fantastic enough with the first 20 minutes being non-stop action. Around the 15 minute mark I expected this to continue all awesome gung-ho like Doomsday. Unfortunately after that, ST2 went completely downhill.
wow how unbeliavably bad this movie is this is just so bad 2 watch its just a whole load of crap so do not bother watching this movie its just no funn...the 1st 1 was a great movie 2 watch throughout because the 1st 1 was really enjoyable 2 watch n the 1st 1 is so much more better than this movie this is a waste of time 2 watch idk why they even bothered to make this really crappy sequel/follow-up movie because its just so dreadful dire boring rubbish its a waste of cast crew money time energy effort..the 1st 1 is so much better than this 1
The first one is more better than this. The movie was just stuck in the same location for the whole film, with most of the story going towards dialogue. But the actors were good.
The only reason this gets even one whole star is that I liked Dax's character. I had certain expectations for this film, and they were not accurate. I did not enjoy it at all, and, except for the Federation and the bugs, it had nothing to do with the original. I didn't see the point in the plot, and I only liked about three of the characters. And what was with the ending? Extremely disappointing.
Starship Troopers 2 was crap the first movie of Starship Troopers was great bt this one jus got a bit stupid in most parts and that
There's excessive gore, sexuality, bad special effects, and bloopers And an actress who played a character killed in the other movie comes back as a different character
I saw the original 'Starship Troopers' movie and very much enjoyed it. When i received this straight-to-DVD sequel, i was optimistic. It's a hard job for DVD sequels to live up to the standard of the theatrical film. Unfortunately, this movie has the same problem. The actors are OK and aren't the problem of the film. The special effects are actually amazing, which is surprising for the low budget. The problem lies in the story. It's very basic. There is an interesting twist in the story but this is still limited to how much can be done. They are just stuck in the same location for the whole film, with most of the story going towards dialogue. Still, when you need something to do, it's not a complete loss.
Why oh why would they go and ruin a perfectly sweet movie!? So much beautiful, computer generated action. And then all of a sudden, a movie that looks like it was produced by a high school student! If theres one thing I hate about the movie industry, it's that they don't know when to quit. When you can obviously tell that your new project is junk compared to the original, you scrap it! Starship troopers went from souly fighting the evil bugs, to evil bugs taking over humans and having sex with everything.....shoot man, thats just moronic.
The follow-up to the massively successful 1997 sci-fi action flick 'Starship Troopers' is quite simply an atrocious film and almost painful to watch at times. It has an extremely tedious screenplay with no life breathed into it with some embarrassing acting. The special effects were pretty impressive like always...but it's such a shame the film sucked so badly that it doesn't really matter. After the events of 'Starship Troopers', the humans are still fighting their war against the arachnids. A small squad hides out in a remote abandoned outpost while being hunted by the bugs, but they fail to realise that a bigger threat lies inside as the bugs find a more accessible way of infiltrating the defences. This is nothing more than a cheesy, useless, lifeless horror drama with the label of 'Starship Troopers' thrown into the title. There is no relation to the previous film (Apart from the concept of the war against bugs. Heck, even the cliffhanger the first one ended on isn't even addressed here) and it's nothing more than a low-budget gorefest. The characters were dreadfully conceived as well! I couldn't care less about every character that appeared on screen. If you have seen the first film and you liked it, stay clear of this sequel at all costs. I saw it because I wanted to know what happens next...but boy was I disappointed. A rubbish low-budget made for TV sci-fi plague of a film.
This movie I thought was better at least story mystery wie than the first. The second movie serves as more a freakish thriller than the first. Once again the acting seems a little cheesy but other than that it was a decent good film nontheless.
.. I hate it that everything is filmed in the dark.. Nothing great with the special effects.. the characters too sleazy.. Yuks!
Sp. effects weren't that great. "Bugs" appeared too fake. Added a new type element to the Bugs' arsenal, the Body-Snatcher-Bug. Interesting ... sorta.
the first movie is one of my favorites. this one was a little boring. there's a good reason why it's released straight to video instead of theatres. if you've seen the first movie, you'll most likely be dissapointed after watching this one.
well this one...has nothing to do with the 1st, that kinda pissed me off a little cuz there could have been a cool sequel, but anyways the same bugs, same badass marines and their awesome guns made for the kill......too bad the story kinda sucks and the action takes place in an old abandoned radio tower! good but not good enough!
Considering the budget (none), this film was a remarkable achievement. It's bad... not even as good as a sci-fi channel original, but it's got heart.
Oh, my God! He's not guilty for the scores of cult fan's who wanted a sequel. Nor is he for this bad, tasteless waste of film. No thanks!
This film was a really big let down, with the first film being so highly polished with the big budget, this low budget film is awful in comparison and dosn't at all fit in with the style of the previous film
