Such a simple movie yet so powerful! I don't wanna be mushy and sappy here but yeah. I totally had to shed a few tears for Bette Midler, but it was so worth it because cute movies like these aren't abundant and ESPECIALLY cute mothers like Stella. For the sentimentals and lovers ...( read more)

Not as strong as the original. More vulgar and crass. However, it's well made and Bette Midler does a fine job. At the very least, it definitely holds your attention very well.

Based on the Stanwyk film, Midler takes the role of Stella Claire. She has some thoughts about her life, and realizes her daughter Jenny would have a much better life without her around. She makes the sacrifice of sending her off to live with her father,who is the ex-husband.
