This movie was so stupid that it was funny. I gave it 2 stars because it didn't really have a purpose or a point to it.

Lets just say i hate will ferrell. The man is the same character in every movie. He is some mentally retarded, overly childish, ungodly bad actor who is the same role in every movie... this one was no different

It really didn't go anywhere, but, it was still pretty funny. Stupid-funny. Yes. The sister-in-law was hilarious!

Pretty good, unfortunately still not the funniest thing ever, which was what I was expecting. Will Ferrell and John Reilly should make some more movies together, though.

I was afraid that the previews showed all the funny parts - but I laughed quite a bit during the whole movie. I'm going to watch it again tonight, it's funny!!

Will Ferrell is my new favorite actor. This was THE BEST performance of him yet. so much of this movie the actors improvised and it shows throughout the movie. The random hilarious lines are what make this movie. Not to mention the storyline and plot are quite original. I recommend this movie to everyone and especially the people who have loved other movies with Will Ferrell because this one is his best.

Can't stand Ferrell. Never want to see anything with him in it. I've seen too many of his disgusting portrayals on SNL to ever want to see his movies.

A great god damn movie. Why do so many critics bash this movie for not being funny? This is Will Ferrell at his best. I hope his comedy never changes.

This is the most hilarious movie i have ever seen, and as someone who doesn't particularly like will ferrell i would definitley recommend this movie but only for the adult audiences as it has very crude language and some scenes are not appropriate

The Critics were really hard on this one, but I found the film to be consistently very funny and sporatically hilarious. Sure it's stupid, and some scenes go way over the top (especially with excessive physical violence), but STEP BROTHERS wasn't meant to be taken seriously, and it works as just that; an entertaining summer diversion.

    Quick Review:

Teaming up again after Talladega Nights, Ferrell and Reilly continue to hit some high marks on the funny scale. The first half of the picture is so raunchy, so over the top laden with profanities of epic proportion that only the stingiest of shrews could resist cracking at least a smile. I laughed, a lot, hard. It was sad to me then that things went downhill about halfway through. The laughs tend to get less hearty as the film progresses, losing a lot of steam in the process.
Of course the story is not at all believable, although not quite as outrageous as Anchorman (okay, maybe as outrageous). Of course, the crew here is not aiming at realism here, so the ludicrous plot is of no great concern. All that matters is that you laugh. And in the end, I think Step Brothers provides enough laughs to justify a recommendation.
If you like your humor lewd and crude on your brain's day off, Step Brothers is for you. If you're not into that kind of comedy, then I think you get the message.

Like Talladega Nights and Blades of Glory i found this rather a hit and miss affair to be honest, dont get me wrong i do like Will Ferrell allot (Ron Burgundy, Night at the Roxbury, Elf) but this simply isn't that funny to be honest. It is amusing and a giggle is raised here and there but really the whole film feels alittle pointless and forced.
The main two characters are the main attraction and they do play of each other really well, both are basically big kids who swear at their parents allot haha, its kinda perverse and creepy and their banter is the best thing about the film. Best quote for me being....' YOU GERIATRIC F**K!!' :)
But it is kinda childish and predictable, I know thats what Ferrell is all about but he's made afew films like that now and this kinda feels the same. Still its not too bad, worth a visit :).

Great job done by both Will F and John C. A great comedy for a younger age but it's the best comedy of the summer thus far.

I know, Will Ferrell. I know, John C. Reilly. I know, Judd Apatow, Taladega, etc etc etc. But everything has it's limitations. And You can only make so many "funny" films. I didn't like how it was so heavily hyped, because of ferrell, reilly, apatow, and taladega. I knew better not to expect much from this, and there wasn't. Was it a bad movie...... not really, in the sense that I could make it through one viewing and chuckle here and there. Will I ever watch it again? Eh... unless there's a television in the restroom that I'm in after a hard mexican food-filled night, and there are no magazines to read, and I don't have a gameboy with me, sure, why not. Other than that, no. The story was unique you could say. But it seems like Apatow is resorting to something so basic and over the top as showing testicles to get a rise out of everyone.. I remember when Actors including Ferrell could be ridiculous and say the most nonsensical things ever and be hilarious such as Anachorman, without resorting to vulgarity. The word F-ck, dick and balls, hitting people with unethical weapons, and man crying is just getting old to me... I really wanted to get my money back, 15 minutes into the movie and invest it towards my savings, or at least switch theatres to just go see The Dark Knight again. At least I had popcorn... And where is Paul Rudd??

I'm also a sucker for Will Ferrel comedies. The guy just makes me laugh without having to do hardly anything. Too many f-bombs in this movie, though, in my opinion.

Not as funny as I thought it would be, but it still was pretty good. There was alot of good but alot of stuff fell flat too. I'd recomend it just for John C. Reily punching a man out of a tree house.

Love the previews, especially the parts where Ferrell takes on a pack of angry schoolchildren, and then he gets squashed by his stepbrother from the bunk bed!

Definitely good for more than a few laughs. May not be on the list of best Ferrell comedies, but the comic chemistry between both leads is very evident. Seems stretched out a little to far towards the final act.

Pretty silly! Entertaining, but not as good as hoped. You do find yourself rooting for them to aspire to their dreams though! A good premise on how more and more men are staying home living with their mothers (or parents), or still act like kids when they are 30. In this case it is a hyperbole of many people's reality and that's funny!

I like Will Ferrell And John C. Reily. I really do. That is why I can't understand what they were thinking about with this movie. It was awful, maybe the worst of the year. They play a couple of losers who won't leave home after their single parents marry and move in. This is one of those movies where just saying fuck is suppose to be fun. And they play the same character, there is no difference between them. The job interview scene is the best part. Major disappointment.

okay, so i've got a inbred weakness for what i know is bad for me. that sadly admitted, this wasn't as bad as i imagined beforehand, and is, in fact, the best SNL alum movie so far in a year full of them. sibling rivalry kicked up a notch, you betcha, but it's all 4 laffs, so get over yer political correctness already. richard jenkins (who is everywhere lately and always to the good) and mary steenburgen (an early crush o'mine still sizzlin') are the able balancers for the over-the-top shenaneggans as ferrell and reilly struggle to keep their spoiled inner child dead in-your-sorry-kisser. okay, lots of profanity (surprize!), the typical three stooges brand of humor you'd expect, but there's a redeeming moral here somewhere...i don't want to bore you.
