  Is this movie overrated? Hell yes. A lot of people I know call this one of the funniest movies of all time but I can easily name 10 funnier films than this, like Caddyshack, Dumb and Dumber or even Abduction. (Abduction wasn't suppose to be a comedy, but there were so many unintentionally funny parts in that movie.) The plot focuses on Will Ferrel and John C. Reily become step brothers after their parents get married and they have to adjust to eachother. As you can tell it's a very weak story. One thing I noticed right away was how often I wasn't laughing. There were parts where I simply chuckled, but Ferrell or Reily weren't even directly involved, it was just a few lines from the dad. There were also moments where I kept thinking to myself "How is this funny? Why would you put this in a script?" A full grown man gets insulted at the dinner table and makes a scrunched up face like he's going to cry and that's suppose to be funny? The idea of an adult acting like a child is overdone. That's the only thing Will Ferrell is good for anyway. Let's analyze: Ricky Bobby: He acted like a spoiled teenage girl. Elf: Acted like a child. Anchorman: Acted like a schoolyard student trying to impress his cronies. Face it, if there were no movies with an adult liking a child, Will Ferrell wouldn't have a career. I mean seriously, Will Ferrell? He's not funny, he's annoying. You want funny, go watch a video of Chevy Chase, Rodney Dangerfield, Chris Farley, Jeff Dunham, 80's Adam Sandler or Taylor Lautner (I'm telling you, his acting is hilariously bad.) Ferrell doesn't even hold a candle to those guys. But if you really want to jump on the Step Brothers bandwagon, watch the film and be your own judge of the movie.

  I think the plot in Step Brothers is adequate purposefully. I expect nothing less then absolute hilarity from producer Judd Apatow. He delivers this with Step Brothers, one of the most silly, immature, hilarious films of all time.

  Not exactly the best of films (or the best of scripts) but I really like this simply because it's about growing up but still being young at heart and chasing your dreams. It's funny (most of the time) and is just such an easy and cheerful watch. A lot of 'comedies' have really sad or bad parts but this is just relaxing all round. A good way to spend an evening after a long hard day!

  Funny duo play step brothers in this movie. Not only do they look alike, they behave a like. They are both 40 and still live at home with a parent. When their parents get married to get other and move in together, they become step brothers. They go through a love hate relationship. Their selfiness and laziness split their parents up but they work together to bring them back together again, winning love and respect from everyone.

Its plot is nothing exciting but Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly's chemistry is spot on which makes this movie hilarious throughout.

  Very funny but dumb as hell. When their parents get married, two 40 year olds named Brennan and Dale (Will ferell, John C Reilly) who still live with their parents become Step Brothers, and are at first enemies, but soon realize they are the perfect allies who will create hell for their family. Will Ferell and John C. Reilly are the perfect comedy duo. The plot is so dumb, no point to it at all. Overall, I always enjoy this, but it has no point at all, and I will always love Will Ferells films.

Although obviously stupid, Step Brothers is a funny movie at times. The first time I saw it I hated it. It's grown on me a bit and it does have some laugh out loud scenes. It's the same type of role for Will Farrell so if you find him funny you'll like and if you don't you will hate it. Although I still don't think it's even a good movie; I can still sit through the whole movie after multiple viewings. Hopefully John C. Reilly gets back to making movies like Criminal, and I think Cyrus was a step in the right direction. He's a really good actor. Funny, but it's not a must watch by any means.

  I really wanted to hate this alot more, but I was more than entertained. This movie is so pointless, but at the same time, that's the point. Comedy films do that alot, they have no meaningful story, but they're funny, so you just have to them for what they are. Step Brothers is so silly, and stupid for much of the 95 minute duration, however, there are still those sparatic hilarious moments that are highly enjoyable. For me it was the KKK and Nazi neighbor scene...loved it! Also, the characters were likeable in this film. I don't really like Will Ferrel, or John C. Reilly, but they're perfect together. It's impossible to not grin while they're on screen. Overall, I guess I'd recommend this film. I laughed alot!

  When it comes to comedy, this is one movie that delivers it in spades. It's incredibly hard not to laugh during this and even harder not to like it. Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly nail down such a great chemistry together and make the idea of 40-year-old step brothers become believable and not corny. They are so committed to being overgrown children that you just don't even think about it after a while. Some of it had to do with their crazy clothes, room scattered in bizarre memorabilia and tree fort of porn. Step Brothers manages to distance itself from other concepts like it because it doesn't go any farther than it needs to and is extremely well put together. It's not just a string of jokes put together, but a really well paced story that makes sense. I think the fact that these characters are not overplayed is the reason they are so effective; it really feels like this could exist and their are grown men that sit at home in a Chewbacca mask and talk about unicorns and samurai swords.

  Saw it again!!! Too funny too much, oh my the things they come up with in movies. Brennan Huff (Ferrell) is a sporadically employed thirty-nine-year-old loser who lives with his mother, Nancy (Mary Steenburgen). Dale Doback (Reilly) is a terminally unemployed forty-year-old who lives with his father, Robert (Richard Jenkins). When Robert and Nancy get married and move in together, Brennan and Dale are forced to live with each other as step brothers. They immediately don't like each other. Dale warns Brennan not to touch his drum set or else (Brennan feels tempted to do this). Soon after, Brennan finally plays on Dale's drum set and leaves the room before he can return. Dale enters the room and notices a chip on one of his drumsticks and confronts Brennan about it. Brennan denies this and a fight breaks out between the two after Brennan vows and makes good on his promise to "rub my nutsack on your drumset". The fight ends as Dale and Brennan strike each other at the same time with a bat and a golf club. The parents declare that the irresponsible men should find jobs or else they're out of the house. Later on, Brennan's very successful but mean brother Derek (Adam Scott) comes to visit with his family. As Brennan and Dale hide in Dale's tree house, Derek comes to mock Brennan and Dale. Angered by Derek, Dale punches Derek in the face. Brennan is in awe that Dale did something to Derek that he always wanted to do. After this occurred, Derek's long-suffering wife Alice (Kathryn Hahn) finds it arousing that Dale punched Derek, becoming infatuated with him. Both men eventually realize that they have a lot in common, and become best friends. They take job interviews at which they perform quite poorly. Walking home, Brennan and Dale decide to start their own company called "Prestige Worldwide" and encounter kids that beat up Dale on a regular basis. The kids beat up Dale and Brennan and force them to lick dog feces. At home, the parents reveal that Derek is selling the house. Dale and Brennan sabotage Derek's plans by dressing as bad neighbors (a Klansman and a nazi respectively) and pretending Brennan had died in front of the buyers. Soon they create a music video to promote their singing talents being shot on Robert's boat and show it to the parents, Derek, and others at Derek's birthday party. The video reveals that the boat was crashed into rocks and Robert punishes them. During Christmas time, the boys sleepwalk and attack Robert after he wakes them up. Angered by this, Robert forces himself to divorce Nancy and put all the blame on them. Dale and Brennan blame each other for the divorce and go back to hating each other. They go their separate ways as they both get apartments. Brennan starts working for Derek and Dale becomes a caterer. At a sales party for helicopters, the Catalina Wine Mixer (arranged by Brennan), the family meets again just as the band quits due to a heckler. Robert realizes that the boys are miserable and tells them to be themselves again and go for their dream. Brennan and Dale go on stage as Prestige Worldwide and with Brennan's singing, the parents and Derek have a change of character. Robert and Nancy fall in love again and Derek regains the love for his brother. Since this, Dale and Brennan have become a successful karaoke duo. Robert and Nancy get married again and move back into the house with a new tree house made from the destroyed boat just for Dale and Brennan. During the end credits Brennan and Dale arrive in a helicopter and exact their revenge on the kids by beating them up.

  Stupid, gross, sad (in a pathetic way), awkwardly funny. If you liked Dumb and Dumber, this one should float your boat. Some of the immature stuff had me sniggering for how silly these grown men were. Will and John really fit the roles well. I think it will be end up being a cult classic ten years after its release. I'd be a bit embarrassed to have it in my DVD collection.
