Step Up

Jenna Dewan, Channing Tatum, Mario, Drew Sidora, Rachel Griffiths, Alyson Stoner

Everyone deserves a chance to follow their dreams, but some people only get one shot. Tyler Gage is a rebel from the wrong side of Baltimorešs tracks and the only thing that stands between him and a...( read more  read more... )n unfulfilled life are his dreams of one day making it out of there. Nora is a privileged ballet dancer attending Baltimorešs ultra-elite Maryland School of the Arts -- and the only thing standing in the way of her obviously brilliant future is finding a great dance partner for her senior showcase. When trouble with the law lands Tyler with a community service gig at Maryland School of the Arts, he arrives as an angry outsider, until his skills as a gifted street dancer draw Norašs attention. Now, as sparks fly between them, both on and off stage, Tyler realizes he has just one performance to prove that he can step up to a life far larger than he ever imagined.

Stop judging me. Now I'll continue to say that although the movie is so run - of - the - mill it's almost meant to be shit, it's still fair entertainment!

So the acting ain't top - notch. There is only one real way to describe Channing Tatum, and I shall accomplish this by quoti...( read more)ng the young lady who sat a few rows in front of me 'Goddamn, this fool is ugly!' .
But the dancing is visually impressive and well - choreographed. Bear in mind that this is what the movie is focusing on. Kudos to that, then.

About those 'soppy' bits ... not convinced. That dumb kid deserved what he got.

Story is forgettable, and it's not really an accurate portrayal of our society, but hell, I've seen worse. Much worse.

More dance movie shenanigans. Same plot, same twists, same everything. A young rich girl dance student and a poor urban punk have some moves to teach each other. Both emotionally and rhythmically. The dance routines are actually well filmed and performed so in that regard it is s...( read more)uccessful. The performances are also not too bad despite the tripe they have to spew out. If you like your films basic, entertaining and challengeless then you make like this.

Save The Last Dance meets Honey. The movie is slow to start while defining and creating a personality for the audience to nearly all necessary characters. The movie really doesn't pick up until the MSA party, at which point the soundtrack kicks it up a notch and puts out some REA...( read more)LLY good beats. The movie is predictable, the story has been told. BUT.... if you have a interest in any type of dance - hip hop, jazz, ballet - or just appreciate the arts altogether, this movie is still a must see. The footwork and the soundtrack (and how nearly every character is HOT) is worth the watch.
