Although the dancing was enjoyable, I didn't help but make comparisons with West Side Story. I realise this is not of the same genre, but that is where my mind kept leading on to.
When I heard about this movie I instantly thought it was another "Save The Last Dance". It was very similar, although it had it's own twist to it. I liked it.
Dancing fascinates we, the art of the human body creating lines, moving to the music, dance is the most enchanting of all the arts. Which is why I seem to have a soft spot for dance films.
But this particular film took the new popularity of the genre and all it came up with was a formulaic bore. Really nothing about it was all that great, even the dancing was mediocre, which as a dance film is appalling. A shame.
Great soundtrack, good dance moves scattered throughout but the plot has been done a million times so the movie is very predictable with some bad acting thrown in.
At times, it kind of dragged on but worth a watch for Channing Tatum.! ;)

great dance moves.. hahaha.. its great to see that two people from different worlds, can be one and do a very good combination.. both of them are really good dancers.. very talented..channing is really good.he's got the moves and very hot body..hahahah.. amazing.. jenna is really lucky to have a handsome partner..i dont really find her very attractive.. i like the story because its not only focused on dancing alone..plus, i m not into the dance thing that jenna does, good thing channing was there and changed it a little..
Really good! Probably my favorite of all the "dance" movies. Almost a Lady and the Tramp story - minus the dogs ;)! Not to mention Channing Tatum Is probably one of the finest looking men on this planet!
If it weren't for Channing Tatum's extraordinary charm, talent and dancing skills, this movie would be a complete failure, mostly because of the lame, stiff sub-plots and the hideous, boring, completely gray performance by Jenna Dewan who has no right to be in a lead role. Both the music and the dancing are incredibly outstanding and Channing steals the movie all the way. If you like dance movies, it may not get any better than this delightful movie.
Step Up relies far too heavily on character types we've seen before. If this is your first foray into the realm of teen dance dramas you might not notice, but otherwise expect it to be a little annoying. From Nora's stuck-up, pop idolish boyfriend to Tyler's troublemaking best friend, right down to the tag along, begging-to-be-killed-in-a-drive-by-shooting little brother, the movie is crammed full of people and scenarios borrowed shamelessly from other films. The adult characters are by far the worst, but given the movie's target audience it no doubt pays to keep the grown-ups as stereotypical as possible. The worst part about these pseudo-stock characters is how easy it is to guess what their part is in the story. It's kind of hard to be shocked by or scared for them when you've got a pretty good idea of what their going to do next and how things are going to work out.
I lovvvvvvvve this movie!!!!!!!!!!!!!! OMG, it's absolutely beautiful. Channing Tatum and the chick (Jenna ....) were absolutely brilliant WITHOUT A DOUBT!!!! If you enjoy dancing, this is definitely the movie for you. It's absolutely brilliant. Without a doubt!!!~ And the plot gets tense towards the end. Wow... simply amazing. Channing Tatum was hot... so hot he almost reaches Vin Diesel HOT ;)
Would you really watch this film for the storytelling? The only reason I saw it was for the dancing and the music, which was pretty good, but that's all it has for me. The story is predictable drivel of schoolboy dropout blah, blah, blah...
This movie was alright.. I didn't really like the actress Channing Tatum was paired up with, so that didn't make a positive effect on me..
But overall, I liked the movie, mainly because of the storyline and the awesome dance moves..
