Wilder and Pryor in their best comedy duo performance. A pair of mis-fits who attract trouble in a tough penetentiary. Classic!

absolutely ridiculous & hilarious. i have a soft spot for richard pryor so even if this movie wasn't amazing, i still loved it & it made me laugh to tears. the pairing of gene wilder & pryor has happened in several movies, & for a good reason: they play off each other extremely well. completely hilarious.

I thought this was very funny when I was a kid. Then I saw it again in my 20's and didn't think it was very funny...

I was surprised at how little I laughed at this. I love these two, but this mostly seemed really forced and obvious.

This movie is hilarious. It stars the classic comedy team: Gene Wilder and Richard Pryor. 'Skip Donahue' and 'Harry Monroe' are best friends living in New York City, and they are going no where in terms of jobs. They want to writers and playwrites, but nothing is breaking for them. So Skip decides the best place for them is Hollywood, so they pack their bags and head out west. They get stopped in Texas though, when their van breaks down, and they have to look for work to pay for the repairs. They end up landing a song and dance act in a local bank, but then two hoodlums up to no good, steal their costumes, come in pretending to be them, and then preceed to stage a robbery. Well Skip and Harry end up being arrested for the crime, and then it's a hilarious ride in the state penitentiary. During their time, they and some friends, decide to set up a jailbreak. And it works. But by the time they get out, the police have caught the real robbers and Skip and Harry are Free As Birds!

Gene Wilder and Richard Pryor's quality make this a decent film, despite the awful plot and poor directing.

Gene Wilder and Richard Pryor, someone must have been smoking some weed when they put these two together (and you know they were) but it totally works. This movie is funny with a plucky spirit. ;)

Mildly amusing prison comedy that has some funny moments, mainly due to the effective chemistry between the two leads, but the script is paper thin.

Unknown to many, this film was directed by Sydney Poitier of 'In the Heat of the Night' fame. Gene Wilder and Richard Pryor were such a great comedy duo it's hard to believe they only did two films together. Very dated now, but still one Hell of a good giggle. Among my top five comedies of all time.

I know it's very dated and most of the jokes run like old tv reruns, but it still had some very funny moments. I liked it . Wilder & Pryor were pretty funny together.

Bought this on DVD recently, and found that they must have filmed two different versions-the version that I have watched many times on tv has no swearing. It hasn't been cut out, it's actually replaced with different script. The DVD is the rude version, but the trouble is it isn' t anywhere near as funny. If anyone knows of a DVD version with the tame script let me know.

I've seen this film so many times, I'm often convinced I was there when the script was being written. And it's funny EVERY time. Classic comedy!

Gene & Richard were always so good together, had that great comic chemistry. A bit tedious, funny tho. Miss RP.
