bah. it was torturous at times. not cute enough. not charming enough. not stylized enough. it tries on all fronts, but comes across as a wannabe romantic comedy musical but fails on all three. decent cast, and interesting concept but so poorly executed. it was an attempt to make an ethnic movie for dumb Americans and it's just dumb. The Taco Bell of Mexican cinema.
He talks at the beginning of how he came from a place where dreams were reality, which is a good thing since you have to suspend reality to believe John Leguizamo is young. I really liked that aspect to the movie in the first half, but then it becomes obvious that the director fell in love with their dream sequences, some of them were just silly and took you out of the world they created. It is worth seeing, not for all but some.
I really like this one. A sweet story with a very happy ending and a cool portrayal of impending middle age and marriage failure as speed bumps instead of road blocks!
