This remarkably silly film is taken dead seriously by the performers in it which helps in getting though a film that seems to be two thirds soap opera potboiler, and one third live action anime.

Anyway, it seems the authorities know they have only 3 days to stop a mass suicide at a high school by bomb and so of course do this not by closing the place down but instead by placing an untrained street urchin, with rad moves of course, undercover in the school in (she only agrees to do this so they?ll let her mother out of lockup in American.)

Armed only with a cell phone and a yo-yo, no really a yo-yo, and the occasional aid of the Colombo of Japan, she gets to the bottom of the whole affair.

However don?t expect too much yo-yo fu, in fact we have to wait until the last 20 minutes before there?s any real yo-ing battles.

Amusing if you don?t expect too much from it

Based off of the Yo-Yo Girl Cop anime, this live action film falls just a bit short of being truly spectacular.

The story is actually pretty good and it is just enough to push this movie along, since there is only minimal action. The title of this film is a little deceiving because the yo-yo aspect of the story isn't great and the yo-yo itself isn't put to good use until the ending.

This movie takes a different approach from other movies coming from animes or mangas. Instead of going for that over-the-top wackiness, this film focuses on a serious dramatic story with only a tad bit of comedy thrown in. This works out good, but the downside for this film is that it does feel a little slow at times and with only a 90 minute runtime you come to expect a little more out of this.

The action is minimal and this is a disappointment. After seeing the cover and the great stylish opening credits you think you are in for a fancy yo-yo roller coaster ride. No such luck. All the action is left until the very end and even then it isn't all that great. There is only one semi-big yo-yo fight and it isn't even with the final villain.

The acting is good, except for one person in the very beginning. Let me just say that the black woman playing an American officer puts on a horrible performance. The lead, Aya Matsuura, and the three members of Biyuuden carry the bulk of this film. So you have 4 beautiful girls running the show. Can't argue with that.

It is true that Yo-Yo Girl Cop isn't as entertaining as it sounds, but with the catchy theme song it is worth the watch.

A stylish little time-waster, this had a few really interesting moments but sports a real left-field plot twist near the end.

    Give it a rental.

I saw this Jp flick in Hot Topic [like where I pick up most of my cool Jp movies] It looked awesome and I would have bought it if it wasn't for the fact that I left my damn wallet in another state! Damnit! It's apparently a great action movie about an undercover japanese girl that fights with a steel yoyo. Now if that isn't awesome then how about explosions? You can clearly see fire on the cover. I wanna check this one out.

Really confusing plot and plot detail. It's more ridiculous than entertaining (meant in a good way). Think of it as a Japanese Heathers + D.E.B.s.

I rented this a couple days ago. I haven't gotten around to watching it yet but I will in the next few days. It's by the writer of Battle Royale so you would think it's got to be good...right??

    I guess we'll see.

Yo-Yo Girl Cop is the movie adaptation of a popular TV series in Japan a about a female cop that fights with a yo-yo. Hence, the clever name.

This film is the Japanese equivalent to a typical Hollywood TV-to-big-screen adaptation. There isn't much substance in the way of plot or action-- the true draw is the legendary character Asamiya Saki, her 4th reincarnation played by the beautiful Aya Matsuura. And, much like Hollywood's willingness to turn crap to cash by casting A-listers, this film does the same by using famous J-Pop stars in the main roles. However, as I said before, the talent level of pop stars in Japan far exceeds that of pop stars in America. The acting for some of the supporting characters here (specifically, the African-American actress) was terrible.

As for the story? Bombs strapped to teenagers against their will... hmm... where have I seen this plot device before? Oh yeah, in director Kenta Fukasaku's dad Kinji's masterpiece Battle Royale. The son's really milking it, isn't he? First, Battle Royale II, then this. I guess Kinji's apple fell way too far from the tree for poor little Kenta to string together an original thought.

The sparse use of the yo-yo will frustrate audiences not familiar with the TV series-- after all, isn't the movie called Yo-Yo Girl Cop? But fans of the TV series know this was an intentional build-up-- it's like revealing Spider-Man in costume for the first time.

In all, like any other TV-to-film adaptation, if you are a fan of the original, Yo-Yo Girl Cop will satisfy you more than the casual moviegoer. Overall though, still a decent film.

More serious in it's violence and themes than it sounds, yet still performing on an adolescent level, this was a strange and amusing affair, kept watchable mostly because I wanted to see where it would go next.

This film was awful. Bad acting. Bad camera work. Stupid plot. Stupid idea. Full of holes. A child must have come up with this idea. "Only a teenager would be able to infiltrate the high school to find out the troubled lives of these teens... And stop them from killing themselves." It isn't even laughable bad. It's just excruciatingly boring. I'm still pissed that I watched it the whole way through.

It was somewhat cool and stylish, yet silly and contrived. It borrowed from many other films and ultimately was a bit of a tired mess, but it was entertaining.

Felt like a live action anime. You could guess by the title, but it's rather ridiculous. I knock this down not because of the oddness of it, but because she's suppose to be great at martial arts and whatnot, but she shows on numerous occasions that she pretty incompotent. I guess that does fit the anime feel of it well.

stupid movie, no plot, low budget film...where the voice is dubbed over, jordan says it sucked. Not worth watching...no kung fu, very little fighting... highlight: asian girls in black latex, atleast for the men.

Sukeban Deka: Codename Asamiya Saki is a wonderfully done movie. Ayaya and Rika do a wonderful job with their bad girl type characters. The movie itself was action packed and exciting to watch! I couldn't stop watching this even for just a second! I liked this movie so much that I have watched it several times! I would definately recommend this!
