A tried & true original cut of an already classic superhero movie sequel.

...Its interesting, obviously unfinished in places but would love it if it was made properly. Is it better than what was brought out? I don't think so but hey, its Superman! Better than Superman Returns any day! Best line: 'I'm not a coward Zod'! (Watch it to understand why)

A much better film than the original release, The Donner Cut is all we have of the original vision of Richard Donner's Superman II. The main difference between the two are the respect to the mythology of Superman: the theatrical film threw in garbage such as teleportation whereas...( read more) Donner kept the film within Superman's powers and weaknesses. It is the superior version, although I still have to give the original props for being able to put together a solid film after the mess that the Salkinds created.

So why didn't I give it five stars? Because it's still not done and will never be done. If it had been completed to the original specifications it would have easily been better than the original film. The Donner Cut is an artifact of what might have been and how producers sometimes don't know what's best for their project (yes, they produced Superman III and Supergirl).

Every bit as good as the original, though because Donner directed both the first and second ones it's intended as one movie. Watching both, you can really tell the difference in quality. Apparently Richard Lester was just a pawn to finish the film the producers' way and it's noti...( read more)ceable. Donner wants nothing less than the best - his way - and he gets it done here. One of the best superhero movies made, but let's forget about 3 and 4, shall we?

Superman 2 is the ultimate superheroe film but boy oh boy if donners cut had been released in theathers it would have been amazing, its actually better than the original theatrical release, its like watching a wholel new movie, ally a pity that producers decided against it, but i...( read more) guess it all worked out in the end cuz now we have two superman II's

    Christopher Reeve is the best

it was okay, I was laughing in it but then again I just don't like Superman
  • June 24, 2009
This is just a copy of a movie that should have never been copied.

After watching the Superman II that was released to theaters (even though it made everyone who worked on the film pissed) I am so angry that Donner was ever fired (for some tabloid crap) and was never able to finish completing this film. I know if he had the chance to actually fi...( read more)nish it, it would have been one of the greatest if not the greatest superhero movie ever. And who knows, maybe it is without finishing it. But it is superior to the regular Superman II in so many ways, starting with Lois and Non not being complete morons. Lois is actually pretty tricky, and Non just destroys things, which he should... given the name Non The Destroyer. General Zod is actually bad-ass and even decides to use our weak human weapons against us to kill and maim. You can't beat that. The ending is a bit off, as it was never completed, and you can tell Donner was planning on adding a few more scenes to make everything run smoothly. Far better than Lester's version though.

Parts of it are better, but because of its insistence on using alternate takes of material from the theatrical cut, parts that worked BRILLIANTLY last time flop here ("Why do you say this to me, when you know I will kill you for it?" or "Haven't you ever heard of freedom of the press?"). Still, the new material- particularly Superman slamming into the Statue of Liberty and Zod gleefully blowing soldiers away with an AK-47- make the whole thing worth it on so many levels!

this is certainly better because its darker and gotten ridden of tyhe cheesy camp elements!thank god for having footage of marlon brando!the WB made the right decision in giving richard donner the chance to cut together his vision of SUPERMAN II

MUCH better than the horrid attempt that Richard Lester gave us. This film is the definition of two things - 1/ Why the Salkinds and Lester aren't making movies anymore, and 2/ How this series could have evolved into a truly epic, respectful film arch had the same cast and crew remained. If I had to sum up in one reason why this film is superior, then it would be this - the bullcrap magic and hocus-pocus of the Lester version is non-existant in this, and the film is strengthened ten fold even just from that.
