these superman movies im talking about 1, 2, and 3 of course were amazing and fun to watch but as time went on superman became a memory and the newer movies nothing great
In all reality this Superman adventure would have been better as a two part episode of a Superman television series.
It has a very excellent and very memorable Superman Vs Superman fight and a scene where Superman is dodging missiles and the person shooting them at him is doing it all on a computer.
But apart from those great scenes, the man of steel is overshadowed by Richard Pryor and the story is slightly dated and weak.
Also stars Robert Vaughn, Marc McClure, Anette O'Toole and Margot Kidder.
Wow I don't care what anyone says this film flop wasn't Richard Pryor's fault but the director who desided to go campy silly because Pryor was in the film. When the altered Kyptonite turned Superman dark was wicked cool part of the story. The figured funny man lets add commedy, You can't do that with a superhero film unless it is made like that from the start it is the killer!
Richard Lester takes over again and makes Superman high tech by having him fight a super computer, and befriend Richard Pryor because they thought it would be funny to include a comedian...in the movie about Superman...which isn't a comedy. Yeah. Any chance of using that metal plating over beam gun to plate this over to bury every copy of this dreck? Ha.
Look up in the sky, it's a bird, it's a plane, it's Superman! I admire the greatest superhero in the world who is both an American and world icon. Here is the third chapter of the "Superman" film series that packs punches and is as powerful as steel.
In "Superman III", computer specialist Gus Gorman is hired by criminal mastermind Ross Webster to expose Superman to tar-laced (yes, cigarette tar-laced) Kryptonite. The resulting effect? Superman is split into his regular good self and his dark side and does a few evil antics. Yet he fights Webster and his henchmen as he protects the truth, justice, and the American Way. The special effects (SFX) are plenty in all the action scenes, which still flies in good quality. What a great superhero movie!
Adapted from the DC Comics series by Joe Shuster and Jerry Siegel and directed by Richard Lester, this 1983-released "Superman" film features the finest acting performances from the following cast members:
1.) Christopher Reeve (Clark Kent/Superman)
2.) Margot Kidder (Lois Lane)
3.) Marc McClure (Jimmy Olsen)
4.) Jackie Cooper (Perry White)
5.) Annette O'Toole (Lana Lang)
6.) Richard Pryor (Gus Gorman)
7.) Robert Vaughn (Ross Webster)
Interestingly, Annette O'Toole, who plays Clark Kent's former flame Lana Lang, would later go on to play Martha Kent in the "Smallville" TV series. Stand-up comedian Richard Pryor plays a main villain and earns $4 million for a black actor, and that was only $1 million more than his co-star Christopher Reeve!
The background instrumental music is so powerful that it reflects the mythical Superman hero. The main theme is in my head now, and I can hear it!
Whether you read comic books or not, go ahead and enjoy the third chapter of the "Superman" film series, highly recommended for all audiences.
Law of diminishing retrurns comes into play...movie is more silly than serious...Pryor, while a truly gifted actor and comedian just seems a bit off in this...mildly passable as entertaining...
Sure, it's not the first or the second film, but it really isn't as bad as everyone makes it out to be. If you have to watch only one part of the film, the Superman vs Clark Kent is pretty awesome.
Gus Gorman (Richard Pryor) discovers a talent for computer programming. Clark Kent (Chirstopher Reeves) is reunited with childhood friend Lana Lang (Annette O'Toole).
a cute superman flick with richard pryor as superman's new sidekick and robert vaughan as the villan instead of gene hacakman. also the scenes in smallville are very sweet to see clark kent with his first time crush lana lang and her little boy ricky and how superman turns evil for awhile. will superman ever turn good again? the fate rests in the hands of richard pryor
Was it the sake of making this movie or was it because the studio intends to cash in the franchise is still a mystery when the plot is not something fans do enjoy; even adding Richard Pryor could not save this movie from its diminishing popularity.
When an unemployed man discovers he has a skill to communicate with computers, he was enlisted to use them against Superman by what the good Kryptonian is weak against ? Kryptonite. As he was heavily expose to it, his other persona was released and the fight against his own demons begins in a fight everyone waiting for ? Superman versus Superman.
With a little less Lois Lane and adding Lana Lang, a childhood sweetheart of Clark Kent into the fray, one figures the extension origin of Superman?s teenage years won?t do much as it drags a bit that it has become a Hollywood product than a comic book fans dream. The fight scene between two Supermans is a bonus, but the climatic fight scene is a real dull moment.
Superman III is another one of those kind of sequels which should not happen unless there?s a good script. But fans can accept this sequel even though it?s not as good as before and still enjoyable to some extend.
This movie suffers from a lack of Lex Luthor, but there are a few moments (a very few) that do have some charm. On the whole, it would have been best left at the first two movies until Superman Returns came out.
Where to start on this one? Well, this one kinda marked the beginning of the downward spiral of Reeves Superman movies. Considering that it was made in 1983, I guess some of the effects are okay, but with a story this corny and unbelievable, it does become unbearable. The tiresome pratfalls and physical comedy is pretty painful. The Smallville mythology is kinda fun, but just a small joy in an otherwise very cheesy sequel. Gene Hackman's Lex Luthor was sadly absent too. And, if this one was bad, just wait for Superman IV..... ughh.
Had some redeeming moments, like the Kryptonite Superman vs Clark Kent fight (Christopher Reeve looks and acts so different for the two roles!)
But it was definately different from the first two, and definately had some element of the 80's (the weird factor, that is, toward the end. But it was entertaining. Dont get me wrong, I am a huge fan of the 80's weird movies like Tron and Dune.)
A must see for anyone who likes the first or second.
Sure it's not up to the majesty of the first two movies, but that's a tall order. But this movie still has more than enough thrills for superhero fans. You've got last minute rescues, chemical fires, missile attacks, and Superman's "Jekyll & Hyde" fight against Clark Kent. Plus you have a stellar performance by Christopher Reeve. Reeve actually has three roles in this movie, Clark Kent, Superman, and Evil Superman. Granted the movie leaned a bit too heavily on the inclusion of Richard Pryor, but that's easily forgiven since Pryor delivers the laughs. Put it all together and you have an exciting superhero epic that is worthy of its title character.
It's NOT that bad people! sure it gets a little silly and over the top at times even when focusing on Richard Pryor then Superman. But i think this is a fun movie! sure as hell is alot better then the disgraceful "Superman 4".
