Surwise opened right away their weren't any previews and I was a little suprised it only took an hour and twenty minutes to get through. Doc "Dorian" Paskowitz an established doctor had a dream to seek truth and knowledge he then quit his practice and traveled to Tel Aviv Israel and would you believe tuaght locals how to surf...so lesson 1 Israel has rad swells! Wonderful anecdotes enjoyable music and great TRUE story..so go see it, It's in Hillcrest so cover up...
I saw about an hour of this at a festival screening. The movie's style is just okay, but the subject matter is fascinating. I'd like to see the whole thing someday.
I really enjoy this one surprsingly, And if you take the chance you will be surprised too. Surfwise is more Surfwise is much more than a surfing movie. It chronicles the amazing journey of "Doc" Paskowitz, his nine kids and his beautiful and understanding wife Juliette. After two failed marriages, the doc packs up his "normal" life and goes Bohemian, living off the earth while teaching people how to surf. The highly religious man meets his life partner in Juliette and they immediately start having kids - one after the other. But that's where the normalcy ends. They travel around the country in a 24' cramped trailer ? all eleven of them, eating healthy, the kids getting home schooled, surfing everyday, and staying below the radar from truant officers. To make money, the Paskowitz' start a surf school and "Doc" would occasionally take low-level medical positions. Surfwise was just great because it was a amazing movie about family and the belief of staying together and living as one. The best thing about this one is that you really start to fall in love and enjoy this unusual but funny family and you really stop looking at this as a documentary but as a great story of people close to you.
