    Never want a surrogate. Creepy.
  • December 27, 2009
Found it to be a bit dry and dull and boring and predictable. The book that it is based on was way better than the movie. I guess I expected a little more out of this movie.
  • December 27, 2009
    very cool. I love it.
  • December 27, 2009
Kind of boring, actually, but, for once I have to admit that I did enjoy the ending (and I wasn't expecting that "priest" plot twist).
  • December 26, 2009
It was alright but not as good as I expected.
  • December 25, 2009
    Definitely it could be better....

Like Gerard Butler's Gamer, Surrogates deal with the rapid advancement of technology, where robotic avatars providing that intermediate buffer between the actual person, and the world they inhabit. With proponents of the Surrogate system worried that a recent...( read more) glitch resulting in the death of their human controllers would spiral mass panic and a system integrity meltdown and opponents of the system who are more for pro-human activity over playing god and living a life with induced experiences. However, the under 90 minute runtime, which was somewhat of a surprise to me, only allowed very cursory suggestions of such themes about man's obsession to create the perfect society, and our growing technological reliance. That proved to be a weakness in the story, as it had ideas that weren't allowed to be properly developed, resulting in some rather scatter-brained subplots that were thrown around without much resolution. Director Jonathan Mastow can't seem to steer himself away from robots. His previous movie was Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines and here metallic robots with superhuman abilities lie under the synthetic human flesh. The main narrative follows Bruce Willis' cop Tom Greer who has to unravel a murder mystery, while at the same time in wanting to add some emotional impact to his dogged looking character, gets faced with some matrimonial issues with his spouse, played by Rosamund Pike. The movie had tried to cram too much in too little time, resulting in a rushed job that would have been better received should it have a little more focus. Not to say that it was as bad or worse than Gamer, but it could have delivered a more focused story.

A minor sci/fi. Entertaining, playing with interesting themes but never fully developing its promise.
  • December 24, 2009
Good story but I am tired of Bruce Willis doing the same type of characters gets boring!

This was a very odd movie to put it lightly. The whole premise of living your life through a surrogate is pretty freaky. The idea that someone could die if their surrogate dies sounds pretty repetitive from past movies to me. The movie seems to lack a real climax and really di...( read more)dn?t feel to have much build-up to anything. A solid two-star movie but that?s about it.

Decent Sci-fi thriller. Surrogates, although very watchable, is very low on thrills and tension. Willis is good however, and there were some impressive special effects during the very few action scenes.
  • December 20, 2009
Typical Bruce Willis Film. I still liked it.
  • December 20, 2009
can't imagine a world where people can be controlled just like puppets.. but I guess humans is being controlled by emotions and media= wake up everyone !!
  • December 19, 2009
I would like that surrogates exist in real life, loved the concept. The story is a little complicated but, very good.
  • December 19, 2009
Great movie. How someone could not like this one is beyond me.
  • December 19, 2009
    So much potential, wasted.
  • December 18, 2009
worth a watch for unique storyline..
  • December 16, 2009
A nice interesting thriller set in the near future in which humans use surrogate robots to work, rest and play while their human operators stay connected online in their own homes. The storyline revolves around a human cop who discovers a massive conspiracy surrounding the surrog...( read more)ate company VSI. It felt rather rushed this movie. Bruce Willis though is excellent as FBI Agent Greer who has to trust his own human instincts instead of relying on his robotic companions who start betraying him left, right and centre. It's a little bit similar to the Will Smith movie I,Robot. Overall, it was exciting and original.

Not perfect but okay. Matrix can be attributed to a close match for this movie. By the way I need one for me to work from home.
  • December 14, 2009
I don't understand the low reviews for this film as it was very decent with a likeable main character and not to mention a good ending. The whole film showed how a person can create something that he thinks would be useful and how difficult it is to get rid of it. As a Scifi-Thri...( read more)ller this is one of the better ones I've seen recent years.

Heard that it's a very bad movie.
  • December 13, 2009

Surrogates was a science fiction detective action thriller.Humans got to stay indoors and live without danger through these perfect-looking surrogates who were the ones to face the outside world. The story started when a surrogate got destroyed, the owner of the surrogate, which w...( read more)as connected to it, also died. This should not occur, so Bruce Willis was asked to investigate. The movie was kind of similar SF-thriller as I-Robot, there were some action scenes, but they could not do anything to move the plot forward. Don't expect too much of this movie.

great concept but poor in execution. Try to remake it later on
  • December 11, 2009
Good film. It could have been extended into a longer film with even more action without it getting boring.

  • December 8, 2009
This movie seemed sort of promising, but provided me with one hell of a letdown. I can't really say too much about this film, other than Bruce Willis playing another bad ass character. Only recommended for self-indulgent Bruce Willis fans.
  • December 8, 2009
Kinda trippy. Could've been better, but it was okay. Radha Mitchell is always nice to see.
  • December 7, 2009
Almost a good idea, if a tad implausible - but it's very poorly executed, and the performances tend to reflect it. Also, the end seems to flash up out of nowhere, which left me rather unsatisfied to say the least. Surrogates is a pretty stupid movie. It presents some nice ideas for a sci-fi film but fails to go in depth into reasonings behind the use of the surrogates and why events in the film are taking place. This movie shares a theme with gamer what could go wrong and what can happen a coupleyears from nopw and it's not so crazy right!! and yes it was weird and cool at the same time it's a great thriller and a great casted movie !!

In the near future, humans live in isolation and ...( read more)only interact through robotic bodies that serve as surrogates. When several humans are murdered when their surrogates are destroyed, a cop (Bruce Willis) investigates the crimes through his own surrogate. After a near fatal encounter, the cop's surrogate is destroyed and forces him to bring his human form out of isolation and unravel a conspiracy behind the crimes.

The filmmaking trio behind the hit sci-fi sequel Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines re-team to explore a future in which humans live in isolation while only communicating with their fellow man through robots that serve as social surrogates and are better-looking versions of their human counterparts. Bruce Willis stars as an FBI agent who enlists the aid of his own surrogate to investigate the murder of the genius college student who invented the surrogates. As the case grows more complicated, however, the withdrawn detective discovers that in order to actually catch the killer he will have to venture outside the safety of his own home for the first time in many years, and enlists the aid of another agent (Radha Mitchell) in tracking his target down. Jonathan Mostow directs co-screenwriters Michael Ferris and John Brancato's adaptation of the graphic novel by author Robert Venditti and illustrator Brett Weldele.

People are living their lives remotely from the safety of their own homes via robotic surrogates ? sexy, physically perfect mechanical representations of themselves. It?s an ideal world where crime, ...( read more )pain, fear and consequences don?t exist. When the first murder in years jolts this utopia, FBI agent Greer (BRUCE WILLIS) discovers a vast conspiracy behind the surrogate phenomenon and must abandon his own surrogate, risking his life to unravel the mystery.

I was semi-interested in this due to the Mostow/Willis combo. It was semi-alright. Pretty predictable. Although, Radha Mitchell does give me a, well, a semi.
