R. L. Shaffer, IGN DVD
Hardly fresh or original, but S.W.A.T.: Firefight is an enjoyable, action-packed follow-up to the 2003 original and one of the better DTV titles out there.

Brian Orndorf, BrianOrndorf.com
Amusing in the moment, with a merry junk food cinema rhythm, the low-budget follow-up isn't nearly as brawny as the original feature, electing video game stylistics and movie-of-the-week plotting to dream up a new adventure.

Sequel to S.W.A.T. is actually an improvement over the train wreck that was the original. I went in expecting something that would be quite bad, but was surprised that it was a decent straight to DVD title that was what the original should have been. Far from perfect of course, it has a much better storyline than the first, and although it was cheesy dialogue here and there, there is enough good, well crafted action scenes to make this a decent low-budget action film that is not too bad. Of course they could have made it better, but considering it's a sequel to S.W.A.T. which in my mind was a train wreck of a film, this is to be expected. Robert Patrick is a much better villain than the one in the original. This is a worthwhile film that although far from perfect is a mindless action ride that delivers some effective moments. I thought it was a decent affair that was much more enjoyable than the original theatrical release. For a straight to DVD release, this is quite impressive and it is a decent film that manages to entertain for what it was. This isn't a great film, but it is mindless action film that manages to be something fun to watch. I really liked it, but it manages to have a few bits here and there that were underdeveloped, but at the same time has something quite interesting going on-screen. If there would have been a rewrite or two, then S.W.A.T. Firefight would have been something truly awesome to watch. This straight to DVD sequel is what the original should have been and it is one of those rare films that have been released on DVD that is better than the theatrical release. Worth seeing if you were disappointed by the original.

The story wasn't too bad either. I didn't care for the insta love between Cutler and the cops psychiatrist. Once that happened the ending kinda wrote itself. The film had a set of decent actors. Their performances weren't amazing, but some did well enough. I like Gabriel Macht.
The story ended up being too predictable for my taste. The action was good though. I enjoyed most of it. I would have liked it more if the story wasn't wrapped up in the first half of the film."

The original was so good. What happened here? Why do they even bother making more when they are only trying half-assed? This wasn't really terrible, just had a made-for-tv quality about it. Such a shame..

I'm a big fan of the original S.W.A.T. movie. It takes excitement to the next level. This unrelated sequel is a surprisingly competent, and well formed movie. It could just about stretch into theaters, but a quiet DVD release was probably best. The movie takes SWAT up against some stalker boyfriend. Not much of a threat, but as the movie progresses, we get some twists and turns which escalate it into true movie territory. A real film about SWAT life would be great, but these action ones are simple guilty entertainment. Macht is a decent lead, and shouldn't be relegated to such movies for life. Sure, The Spirit was painful to watch, listen to, and think about, but he isn't completely to blame. Patrick is always a decent villain, even if he does look a bit out of shape for some of his stunts.

A smart, tense, stylish and adrenaline-pumping thrill-ride. A wickedly cool and exhilarating action flick that's just a blast. An awesome and tremendously entertaining edge of your seat action-packed thriller. A full-throttle and razor-sharp film that packs a full-clip of excitement and tension and will blow you away. A surprisingly solid story with a great cast with strong performances. Gabriel Macht is terrific. Robert Patrick is explosive. It's loaded with heart-pounding action and sizzling suspense. S.W.A.T is back and looks to be maybe another promising and great action series.

The film was ok, but could have been a lot better. The first S.W.A.T. film was awesome. I was expecting the original cast to return for the sequel. That didn't happen here. This one has none of the original cast members. It is a stand alone direct to video sequel. It wasn't bad as I thought it would be. The original film had characters that were well developed and a great team to root for. Here the big problem that I had, was that the characters on the S.W.A.T. team were not well developed. I also felt that the film was more focused on Gabriel Macht than the team. The original had a great rivalry between Colin Farrell and Jeremy Renner. Here the rivalry is between Macht and Robert Patrick. This film reminded me of the movie Blown Away starring Jeff Bridges.
Performance wise, Macht does a good job here. I thought he was much better here, than he was in The Spirit. Robert Patrick is great as the villain here. I find it interesting that the villain Terminator in Terminator 2 and the villain Terminator in Terminator 3 are both in this film.
While the first film is way better, this one isn't bad to check out. If they do another film, I would like to see the original cast members return.

Awesome edge of your seat action. Hard as nails and truly dedicated to his job as a police negotiator, gets re-assigned and relocated to lead a crew of elite S.W.A.T. officers in Detroit. On his own terms he decides to take the job only to find himself up against a villain that wants to see him suffer as much as he made the villain do. The race against the clock where the rules of engagement changes the playing field that he is trying to control while training his team.
You will not be disappointed if you saw the sequel. This is definitely a worthy sequel worth viewing and experiencing.
