The music is spectacular and the blood is so surreal. I like how nothing really has any color except a little red on each character and the blood.
The original stage production is so much better than the movie. The movie got the creepy feel, but Sweeney needs to be played by a powerful singer.
interesting to hear Johnny Depp sing for the first time...but i love the storyline and one of the solo pieces, Nothing's Gonna Harm you....Streisand sang this so well for her son in one of her concerts.
i love musicals, especially dark musicals and i love johnny depp tim burton and helena bonham carter so this is the perfect movie for me!!!!
I didnt know that the Jhonny Depp one was based on an older one. I dont know if I would like the old one how I liked the JHonny Depp one tho.. heh but its worth a shot right?
I meant to review the new version... whoops. Anyways, Jonny Depp is the creepiest Sweeney Todd EVER-even Helena Bonham Carter was good.
This movie was so funny! Angela Lansbury is a million times better than that other chick! Yum, people. ^_^
This offers little more than just a taping of the musical play but it is good! Certainly if I had the choice to actually go to the play I would but this is a decent enough substitute. It is a little difficult to rate this. Do I just rate it on the merits of the play or do I rate it as a movie because as a movie it really is just showing what is there and nothing fancy. But I suppose that is all it should do.
The singing is great and it is a really fun and creepy time! It really made me want very badly to see the play someday. A good time for fans of the musical and of musicals and plays in general but nothing fancy. For those who want the big shiny movie experience I would say to turn to Burton's recent adaptation.
A bit much to take for non-sondheim fans, but it's really neat to see what they left out of the recent movie version. This one is just a filmed version of the stage play, but definately worth a watch if you like musicals...
Burton and Depp are back at their best!
I rate it 5 out of 5 ataris for the art, the photography, the clothing, the music, the production set and the actors. 3 out of five ataris for the story. So let's make a 4 and half final ataris for the whole experience! Anyway, I would rate this film as "excelent", just as the couple Burton-Depp have done it in all their previous collaborations.

RIGHT I HAVE SEEN THE ONE WITH RAY WINSTON IN IT AND HE WAS SO GOOD I WOULDNT EAT MEAT PIES WATCHIN THIS ONE LOL
I enjoyed this film. The acting, script, scenes were perfect. For some strange reason, I found the people landing on their head amusing. How strange!
This is so twsited and just so wrong I really really enjoyed this! Im goingto hell I know. Just sing Pretty Women at my funeral.
I may gave this a chance. But the most compelling part of the Johnny Depp version is in fact Johnny Depp.
A wonderful production, however I didn't like the way it ended much and in my opinion the new film is a lot slicker and better paced.
Angela Lansbury is great as Nellie Lovett, the songs are fantastic - I can see a revival of this musical coming back shortly.
I liked this movie a lot. Johnny Depp was really good in it too. He's a great actor. And also Helena B. Carter was great
I liked the singing and the twisted ending but the squirting blood and the whole human eating thing, just got to me...
This PBS made-for-tv recording of Sweeney Todd is a homerun. Judging by a theatrical stand point, the set is unique, the actors are brilliant, the music is beautifully orchastrated, and the voices that carry the music are phenomonal. These factors make the plot suceed in almost a perfect manner. The fact that it was filmed makes you feel like your seeing the play yourself (minus the theater atmosphere). The film makers also land incredible shots so you know exactly what is happening at all times. If you liked the Tim Burton version or are new to Sweeney Todd, then this is the PBS show for you.
Hummmm well, quite fun and worth a watch but not worth paying at the cinema. Lacking a bit in the story line department!
Brilliant performance of the show from a fantastic cast. Hearn and Lansbury are excellent, but Sal Mistretta as Pirelli and Ken Jennings as Tobias make this rendition of the show a must-see.
some of the best acting i've ever seen EVER! excitingly creepy. its only down fall is annoying high vocals on the daughters part, she never leaves her pitch
Enjoyable stage adaptation. The one thing I would have liked to have seen was a faster tempo to the story and songs. Would like to see it live.
OMG... i fyou have not seen this movie you suck! it is an eacellent movie and i plan to own it and its soundtrack very soon.
