Johnny Depp can sing!!! Highlights Depp's versatility, his portrayal is completely unrecognizable from that of how we saw him in the pirate series. This was, however, not the case with Rickman.

Going into the film, I didn't know what to expect. Then during the film I was a bit confused and not as interested as I thought I would be. However, after the film was over, turns out I thought it was very very good. Depp was incredible, as usual. Helena Bonham Carter also portrayed a very very well done role. Also including well supported roles from Sacha Baron Cohen, who I cannot stand, Alan Rickman, and Timothy Spall. In the top three of my favourite Burton films. I will buy this when it comes out on Tuesday, April 1, 2008.

    Absolutely magical.

Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham Carter were just delightful on screen! I actually loved Johnny's voice, very haunting. Helena was perfectly cast as Mrs. Lovett and had a sweet style of singing giving a sassy flair to the character. Despite the fact that it was weird to see Ali G a.k.a Sacha Baron Cohen in a Hollywood musical, his performance was fantastic. Jamie Campbell Bower was excellent as Anthony, the love struck lad fallen for Sweeney's daughter Johanna. He had a lovely voice too.

I loved the music. All the tracks were different to each other, each with their own sense of emotion. My favourites are The worst pies in London, Johanna, and Pretty Women.

The cinematography was beautiful! From the dark black clouds to the gorgeous costumes, everything was down to a T. It also had Tim Burton's trademark Gothic feel to it.

I'm not really a fan of musicals, but if it's has a solid story and a brilliant ending to boot then it's a winner in my eyes.

Johnny Depp can sing! I was a little disappointed when I first saw this in the movies because there was soo much singing. But after the second time watching it, I really got more into it. Really great. Love the story and it was perfectly done.

Once again, Johnny Depp has really outdone himself portraying the Demon Barber of Fleet Street Sweeney Tood! The story is twisted both plot wise and dismembering wise. The actors truly put a lot of effort into pulling this musical off, and from what I know they put a lot of time and courtesy into making Tim Burtons Sweeney Todd work like magic! I love this movie so much, I recommend that fans of Tim Burton, Johnny Depp and so on watch this at least 2 times or more! Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleetstreet is truly incredible and it's unique atmosphere will truly stand out amongst other musicals.

Depp! I love everything about Depp.
Even though somewhat bloody and gory, this film is still lovely thanks to the settings, music, and people. However, story plot was okay only. :)

Who knew that Johnny D could sing. This movie was weird at first but then it started to grow on me. And by the end of the movie I wanted to breakout in song, but my dad put an end to that pretty quickly.

I was apprehensive about this movie but I was floored when I finally saw it. It has fast become one of my favorite movies, ever. I'm usually not a fan of musicals but I'll make an exception here.

Medieval London with its rats, gutters and filthy streets, how can I resist that? I did close my eyes when Johnny slashed the first throat though, it was too graphic and too out of this world at the same time.

This movie goes to show that musicals can be successfully translated onto the big screen. Depp was brilliant as was Bonham-Carter.

Wow. My brother was right on the mark when he told me Sweeney Todd was a musical/slasher film. I'm kinda glad I don't get nightmares from movies. This one was gross.

This was different. I liked it. I remember the Broadway play and the songs. Scary, suspenseful and crazy, but not too much.

The problem with this movie is that they cast actors in singing roles. They may be able to act but they CANNOT sing! The story and set and costumes were superb.. but the singing was shit.

Very well done movie. Enjoyed it a second time as much as the first (if not more). It is a musical so if you don't like musicals this isn't for you.

Depp is wonderful as always. Tim Burton's visuals are fantastic, as he always does a great job with a dark theme. Alan Rickman also delivers a very strong performance.

I had somehow never seen this musical on stage, and have to say that EVERY SINGLE SONG SUCKED GIANT TURDS!! I don't see how the musical survived, let alone thrived. Thank god Broadway has has passed to a new generation of writers, and hopefully this is the last film they'll ever make of the old school crap that has dominated theater for far too long.

Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street (2007)
    Directed by Tim Burton
Starring Johnny Depp, Helena Bonham Carter, Alan Rickman

«I can guarantee the closest shave you'll ever know»

A film based on a famous hit Broadway musical which tells the story of Benjamin Barker a.k.a. Sweeney Todd, who has been blamed of what he didn't do and had his wife and his child taken away from he and he himself has been send far away from his beloved ones. When he comes back, years later and finds out the horrible truth of what has happened to his family, he sets up a barber shop on a Fleet Street in London which is a the basis for a sinister partnership with his fellow tenant, Mrs. Lovett. A story of a man who is desperate to get his revenge on the ones who took away everything that he cares about in his life, and he might just be able to succeed with a help of his trademark razors and a devilish plan.

First of all this film is a musical, not a horror film because many people want to see it thinking that it's a horror film which it is not. It may have some disturbing bits but its main theme is singing and that's why it is a musical. Secondly, if you are not a big fan of musicals like me, and you didn't quiet liked the trailer then after 20 minutes of the film you will know wherever to watch this film or not. I think that Tim Burton did a great job on creating this film because in my opinion this film had everything that an outstanding film-musical should have in it. It was absolutely outstanding. The acting was great, special effects were amazingly realistic especially the blood, which was really creepy as it should be and well the story is just 10 out of 10.

Johnny Depp gave all he could for this film and his singing deserves a special praise. His character was really creepy and mysterious and he played it perfectly. His facial expressions were especially good and once again he proved that he deserved a big praise for his performance. I can't think of anyone else to play his role so I really think he was the perfect actor to play Benjamin Barker so Tim Burton made a great choice there. Helena Bonham Carter acting really impressed me; she made her character look creepy and funny at the same time. She played a perfect partner in crime and she sang well which is another top mark. Both Depp & Carter gave their best and generally looked like a good couple throughout the whole movie. Their mixture between them was perfect and it was a pleasure to watch them both acting together. Once again Alan Rickman showed he can be a perfect villain just like his role in Die Hard only this time he played entirely different person, the judge who everyone was scared of, but dared not to say anything because of his power and influence. He did really well but his singing wasn't that good. Sacha Baron Cohen played a little cameo in this film; he played an Italian character that played a key part in Barker's future actions and motives. Sacha played Italian character really well, he acted like one, and his accent was nice and clear. Other actors impressed too: like Ed Sanders who played little boy with real enthusiasm and I really enjoyed his singing. Timothy Spall looked really evil & nasty which was essential for his character.

The Special Effects were done well and I think the blood scenes were especially good. I really liked the costumes as they were really well done and picked well for the time but there were some major mistakes in this film, for example: the appearance of Big Ben in the film. The events of the film are set in the 18th century in which is the 1700s. But Big Ben wasn't build until after 1834. So I thought that this was a big mistake by the film makers.

The story itself is very breath taking. After many years in prison Benjamin Baker a.k.a. Sweeney Todd finally comes back to London to finally reunite with his family only to realize a horrible truth of what became of his family. So he decides to pay for his and his family's suffering and to get his revenge on the people who went against him. With a help of his companion and the only person who recognize him Mrs. Lovett, he decides to start a business involving him giving people a shave eventually killing them in the process and to use their meat to cook pies and sell them in Mrs. Lovett's famous pie shop. Story is very intense and there is many turns and twists which leads to unpredictable finale.

So, if you are big fan of musicals & horror films, plus you like a bit of comedy, then this film should be your favorite without any doubt. I loved it myself, even though I am not the biggest fan of musicals but I just simply couldn't resist but to enjoy this film. Indeed, that year 2007- is a great year for films, it had some amazing ones but Sweeney Todd has to be one of the movies that I really enjoyed and I am not even a musical fan. In fact it is the second genre I would never chose to watch with first one being a horror. This film has a mixture of both. That proves what a great director Tim Burton is; I would never believe that I would enjoy both categories of movies that much. Many people think that musicals are a bit boring but Tim Burton has proved that by giving musical a new style, his style. You may find this film really disturbing but it is a Tim Burton's film and it is deserves to be called a masterpiece in some way.

Hard to get into it at first. All the singing is a bit hard to adjust to. Toward the second half I was more engaged into the plot. Only Depp, as usual, could pull off this twisted musical.
