The main character is a whiny young woman so busy running away from her past that she stomps all over anyone in her way as she heads to her future. I don't know why Jake still loved her - I'd have cut her loose a long time ago!!! Patrick Dempsey, tho - wow. He looked fantastic in this. Candice Bergin was perfect as the overbearing NY bitch & Fred Ward & Mary Kay Place were perfect redneck trailer park parents!!
omg i loved it!! it was so romantic in tha beginning when she is having her dream bout when she was a kid and her and jake are at tha beach and he said that he wanted to marry her so that he could kiss her whenever he wanted. that part always always always makes my heart melt! <3

I bought this movie when I was interested in wtching DVD's all the time. Well that time has passed and I havent picked it up since. Plus it comes on regular TV now.
To this day, after watching this movie countless times with my friends, I still don't find it humorous or romantic or whatever the hell else it's supposed to be.
Some of the best lines came out of this movie. Its classic, small town girl wants to be something bigger but has skeletons in her cloest, it's the great american story
