Plot: In a college comedy that puts a modern-day twist on an age-old story, Sydney White tells the tale of a tomboy freshman who ditches her conniving sorority sisters and finds a new home with a group of v...( read more read more... )ery dorky outcasts. Fed up with the way they’ve all been treated, she’s off to war against the reigning campus royalty. Gorgeous freshman Sydney White (Amanda Bynes) has come to Southern Atlantic University to pledge her late mom’s once-dignified sorority. But while surviving the pledging process wrought by evil campus witch Rachel (Sara Paxton), Syd finds out this version of sisterhood isn’t remotely what it’s cracked up to be. Banished to a condemned house on Greek Row, Syd finds her rightful place with a band of seven very socially challenged guys. With the help of one lovestruck frat boy named Tyler (Matt Long), she and the doofs campaign to take over student government. Fighting for the rights of misfits big and small, Syd organizes her gang to revolutionize the system, once and for all. In a biting new comic film for the nerd in us all, Amanda Bynes brings her trademark style of comedy to the story of a plumber’s daughter who builds an army of dorks done wrong: Sydney White.

    Lenny: Did they really make you sing Celine Dion?
    Sydney White: Yeah.
    Lenny: Do you need a place to stay?''
    Tyler: Who are you Sydney White? You throw a football like Matt Leinart, fearlessly conquer fraternity bathrooms, and clean up nice to boot.
    Sydney White: Well, I'm more of a Peyton Manning. Leinart's to the left.
    Tyler: Marry me.'
    Rachel Witchburn: I'm the last person you wanna mess with.
    Sydney White: No. You're the first.''

    This movie's so wonderfully cute and funny. The story was very clever. It shows how university is stratified, makes references to how JFK was elected and Disney's Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, and shows examples of social mobility. The soundtrack is good too. I usually despise Amanda Bynes and her roles but I like her character, Sydney, in this movie because I can relate to her. The Vortex guys are so endearing, especially when they roleplay fantasy video game characters and are very protective of Sydney. The couples in this movie are adorable. ^o^ I would rewatch this movie, especially when I need something to cheer me up. ^^;;

    Terrible contemporary modern retelling of Snow White. The premise could've easily been exploited into something funny a-la Mean Girls, but it wasn't.

    Another old remake of a classic tale with the modern day twist to make it more appealing to teens and young adults. Amanda Bynes, simply, was Snow White with a knowledge of construction equipment, which would have come in handy for her in the original, when the dwarfs put together that glass coffin. *LOL* The evil queen with the poisoned apple, Rachel Witchburn, sorority president, is determined to make Sydney's life a living hell in the campus after the ex-boyfriend shows interest in Sydney, instead of her. I watched again for the second time last night, and realized that there are a lot of references to Snow White. For those of you that haven't seen that yet, you should rent that first before this one. Just look at the title cover. Cute, cute, cute.

    Loved it! Oh, talk about fun!! First of all, I've been an Amanda Bynes fan for quite sometime. That is one of the things that attracted me to the film. The next big thing was Danny Strong, Buffy alum. But, I think the most intriguing part of the film was the concept of our modern Snow White. While it is not a complete retelling of Snow White, it is playfully embeded with details from the classic story telling. (Sure, this makes the ending predictable, but nonetheless heartfilled and fun). The story also has a strong heroine behind it who stands up for herself and can bond with the dorks. Love it!! The seven dorks (i.e. seven dwarves) bring great humor to the screen with their various characteristics that embody the original ensemble. For example, Danny Strong's "Grumpy" hosts his own bitter blog at people's punisher.com
    Embrace your inner-dork and check out this flick!! (7-28-08)

    A sweet little comedy that revolves around the world of a group of outcasts, that by some chance end up with Sidney White at their door. With the help of Syd (Bynes) and her gogeous boy toy, Tyler (Long), they conquer the school elections and take out Greek Row's long run.

    A movie for freaks. LOL.

    I ADORE this movie. There's something to be said for those who dare to be different in the very faces of scoffers and naysayers. Someone who dares to live mask-less. It's the best and ONLY free way to live...and those who criticize ones for doing so are nothing more than copycats trying to validate their own insecurities as they seek to "fit in".

    What can I say? It was DORKY! But it didn't hide behind any presumptions that it wasn't. I went into it knowing full-well that it would be dorky, and so I rate it on its own terms: it was a pretty good dorky movie.

    "Power to the 7th Power" If you followed to the own beat of your drum and were never popular with others in school.. than U are a "DORK" and this film is for you. I def can relate to this film when growing up as a kid and taking it into perspective as an adult. This film is a new twist on a classic tale of "Snow White". For what you take this film to be worth makes it that more enjoyable. I would have to say though that I was a little disappointed in Amanda Bynes as she wasn't the strongest in her role. Also the fact that it reminded me of her acting in "She's The Man" a lot. Sara Paxton played an "Evil Bitch Queen" really well and Matt Long was def the "handsome prince charming". I loved the spin of the "Poison Apple" part and every dork character was memorable. The film also had a great message to "Just Be A Dork" and except everyone for who they are. 3 stars
