January 31, 2008Oshima is back with, to my knowledge, the only gay samurai film. Beautiful, methodically paced and filled with interesting moments, it's easy to see you're in the hands of a master filmmaker. A great film.

September 11, 2009Powerful imagery and unusual character dynamics help make this film very original, if somewhat awkward. Sakamoto's score is simplicity at its finest. First-rate filmmakers trying something new.
