great movie for the first-timer YUI.. and the soundtrack is great.. love "the goodbye days".. really a recommended movie for someone who finds love in every music notes...

Taiyou No Uta or Midnight Sun, features YUI the Japanese Singer and Takashi Tsukamoto from Battle Royale. YUI plays Kaoru Amane, a girl who can plays the guitar, like YUI herself. Kaoru Amane suffers from the rare skin condition xeroderma pigmentosum (XP), a disease that makes the ultraviolet radiation of sunlight potentially lethal to her. In the movie, YUI plays three of her songs. They are. It's Happy Line, Skyline and Good-bye Days. Takashi Tsukamoto acts as Koji Fujishiro, a guy who is trying to learn how to surf. YUI who can't expose herself to the sunlight rays, always looks at Koji, who usually waits by a bus stop for his friends before they go surfing each morning. She develops a crush on the boy, even though she doesn't even know him. As XP begins to work its effect on Kaoru, she soon loses strength in her hand and is unable to play guitar. She assures Koji that this will not change anything, that she still has her voice, that she will sing. This movie is about the girl who plays the guitar under the moon at midnight, and the boy who likes to surf under the sun. When both of them met, their paths intercrossed and their lifes were changed. She returned to the sun soon after that.

This is really a good, heartwarming movie. I like the songs sang/played in this movie, they are really commendable. Acting is only average since Yui sometimes lacks expression when she acts. Most of the scenes in this movie will really move you to tears and make you realize love is presented in different ways. Also, this movie gives importance to family togetherness as well as friendship.
one of my favourite jmovies. not only Yui-chan is the lead actress, the many lil sweet events that occur will be engraved in our minds makin it hard to forget. my fav quote: "my favourite banana is food".
I found the film itself to be quite dull, although YUI is still adorable even if she can't act. Plus, her songs are a nice addition to the film! The best part of the film for me would be YUI's songs, which was probably the only reason why I watched this.
The only thing with this movie I'm not too keen on is YUI's acting. She doesn't have a large stage presence, but just enough to carry this film. It could have been better, but at least it's not horrible. Anyways, acting aside, this is a beautiful movie.
