Jessica Reaves, Chicago Tribune
There are few words to describe the awfulness of this movie, but let's give it the old college try: dismal, depressing, embarrassing and utterly lacking in any artistic or social worth.
-
Frank Scheck, Hollywood Reporter
The film has its dubious pleasures.
-
Lisa Rose, Newark Star-Ledger
This indie death-feast, directed by Jeremy Haft and penned by Jeffrey Reddick (co-writer of Final Destination), was initially slated to debut on video. Watching it, you'll wonder why the distributor changed its plans.
-
Kyle Smith, New York Post
After a sly middle, the third act is just slasher-flick clichés; worse, it largely keeps Tamara offscreen. Villainy shouldn't be outsourced.
-
Elizabeth Weitzman, New York Daily News
A mediocre little thriller that might have promised cheap fun on Blockbuster's direct-to-DVD shelf is instead destined to die a quick death on the big screen.
-
Nathan Lee, New York Times
A low-budget horror film with even lower ambitions, Tamara is a movie of few innovations but one genuine, if unintentional, surprise.
-
Michael Szymanski, Sci-Fi Weekly
You know things aren't going well when it gets tedious watching a teen girl strut around in short shorts and a loose top and you're waiting for her to use the ax and get it over with
-
Scott Weinberg, DVDTalk.com
Dewan's performance single-handedly elevates Tamara from something lightweight-yet-watchable into a horror geek's must-rent feature.
-
Frank Swietek, One Guy's Opinion
A really dumb, derivative rip-off, slovenly constructed and played with the sort of ludicrous earnestness that just misses being bad enough to qualify as high camp.
-
Pablo Villaca, Cinema em Cena
Este aspirante a Carrie, a Estranha segue todas as convenções do gênero a ponto de se tornar previsível já aos 5 minutos de projeção, e o elenco de canastrões só piora a experiência.
-
Andy Klein, Los Angeles CityBeat
There is nothing whatever special here, but it adequately achieves its modest ambitions.
-
Brent Simon, Now Playing Magazine
Those looking for a update on Carrie could do worse than this.
-
Christine James, Boxoffice Magazine
By now, we all know what you did last summer and have had our ticket punched at our final destination. And nerdy girls have been turning hot and wreaking revenge on their nemeses at least since ZZ Top's heyday.
-
Eugene Novikov, Film Blather
Surely independent horror has more to offer than this.
-
Staci Layne Wilson, Horror.com
Tamara is a mostly enjoyable horror romp and well worth a look if you're into supernatural thrills, witchy women and revenge of the nerds.
-
Mark Olsen, L.A. Weekly
An entry into the cycle of avenging teen-girl pictures, in which the filmmakers try gamely to put a unique spin on familiar material, but eventually fall back on by-the-numbers tropes.
-
Felix Vasquez Jr., Film Threat
Tamara thinks it's a supernatural tale, but really it's just another Fatal Attraction retread with a supernatural twist, and a climax that just screams: sequel. Don't hold your breath.
-
Devin Faraci, CHUD
Carrie Meets River's Edge.
-
Eric Lurio, Entertainment Insiders
A "Buffy episode without any of the usual cast.

Hubble, Bubble throw a mix of Carrie, Craft, I know what you did last summer into a cauldron and you get this low budget slasher. Borrows ideas from several films and then does it in a similar way on a lower budget. Very predictable, but if you're a fan of slasher films it might just have enough going for it to make it worth a watch once.

Highly flawed and yet somehow it manages to entertain. It's pretty much Carrie all over again, with a few tweaks here and there. Best of all is Jenna Dewan who does look incredible. I don't think she needed witchcraft to make people do what she wanted. There's also some scenes which aren't present in every slasher/horror. Most notably a rather gruesome self-mutilation. There are members of the cast you expect were cast for something other than their acting ability, but you'll also get some cheap thrills.

Has borrowed a lot from some other movies like Carrie & ... But it's entertaining

I probably shouldn't have liked this movie as much as I did, but what can I say? I'm a sucker for 'there's-the-guy-I'm-gonna-kill-now-watch-me-go-kill-him' movies. Monsters getting thier revenge just warms the cockles of my heart, and that's what… More

Monsters getting thier revenge just warms the cockles of my heart, and that's what this movie is. Evil gets let out of its cage. And we get to watch.

Not as good as the "Final Destination" films, but It's still a good horror flick with very disturbing\bloody moments.

A good teen slasher horror film with plenty of gore and chills, and a solid performance by Jenna Dewan as a misfit high school student named Tamara Dewan who is longing for the forbidden love from a married teacher, through witchcraft she tries to put a love spell on him, but before she can carry that out, a terrible prank goes tragically wrong, and she killed by the group of fellow students who dislike her. They secretly bury her body in the deep woods, thinking that they have gotten away with it, scot-free, but Tamara comes back from the grave with deadly supernatural powers bent on revenge and death to all of her tormenters. She appears the next day at school to the horror of her murderers, no longer the homely girl they knew, she has transformed into a mini-skirt wearing, smoking hot, super sexy vixen. In one of the funniest payback scenes, Tamara gets even with two date-raping jocks by making them have sex with each other. She also gets back at her beer drinking low-life father who lusts for her, by making him eat beer bottles, swallowing the broken glass until he bleeds to death. A entertaining entry in the genre that is a cut above the usual low-rent horror trash, a well-crafted guilty pleasure. Recommended.

It's spectacular to see so much failure in one movie. I couldn't even recommend it on a ''so good it's bad'' basis because it really is not, it's just bad. Lame, boring, lazy.
-
Not scary nor funny at all. Ridiculously cliché'd, and suffers from bad acting from its lead, Tamara is a DTV title that will never be more than a DTV title.
