Hysterically funny and bizarre when at times, touching and heart-warming at others. This films makes perfect use of the aesthetic signature to Japanese films, without getting to caught up in the strange often cartoonish world in which it is set.
The plot doesn't really make sense other than yes this is definitely a Japanese drama with a decidedly Japanese plot. Everyday life for a family in the country is about the best way to describe the plot, however all of the characters you come to feel for in their own way as the movie develops. Not for everyone (except the asian cinema enthusiast or someone looking for a different experience), but still somehow has something for everyone? Cheesy tagline but that's one way to describe this movie. Read the summary and you'll understand.
Out of all the new released movies on the racks in Potomac Video, this movie was the only one that caught my eye and the only one I actually picked up to read the back summary. It's brilliant! It may be a little slow paced for impatient viewers but I didn't mind at at. I loved the Harunos. Ayano and Grandpa were hilarious. Sachiko was so adorable. Very nicely done. Perfect music. Absolutely loved it.
Grandpa's funny, and the kid stories are good. Like 'Funky Forest', there's way too much filler, though the overall obscurity makes it worth watching.
a bit weird didnt quite make that much sense but thats what you get for picking a quirky Japanese flick.
