Technically excellent but typically crude send-up of the old puppet action series "Thunderbirds", courtesy of Trey Parker and Matt Stone of South Park infamy. It's the story of a group of "world police" who are ridding the world of terrorism one North Korean dictator at a time. I...( read more)f you're a Thunderbirds fan like I am, you'll recognize many of the elements and techniques. This isn't your parents Thunderbirds though. Nope. This is the 21st century, which means exploding bodies, decapitations, and a hilariously hardcore "puppet porn" sex scene. Lots of songs, some good (I Miss You Almost as Much as 'Pearl Harbor' Sucked", Montage) and some unnecessarily obscene (America...Fuck Yeah!). I could also have done without the extended drunken vomiting scene. But mostly entertaining. Why couldn't the live-action crap film "Thunderbirds" with Bill Paxton -- instead of puppets -- been like this!?!

A really clever idea poorly executed. Stone and Parker let their egos get the better of them. The stupid humour was unnecessary when they already had a very funny premise already. I laughed about three times, heavily, but only three times.

So original and brilliant, great plot, lines, marionettes, songs. Profane as expected but funny throughout the whole thing.

I first saw this back in 2004 and was simply blown away from the get go. Granted, I am a South Park fan which does help, but the simple beauty of this film, is that it manages to take itself seriously, a tradition held by all the greats. Besides poking fun at the US, Terrorist, a...( read more)nd primarily Jerry Bruckheimer and Michael Bay, it also takes the time to mock itself, namely the difficulty in using marionettes. Great film with with a great, though sometimes crude sense of comedy.

"Get outta the street ya fuckin' bum! Ya gave up on life, didn't ya!?"

This film SHOULD be my favorite movie of all time; it's fucking flawless! Words simply cannot describe my sublime admiration for this work of art. A truly collaborative piece of ardor.

Innovative and vile. Good old inappropriate Parker/Stone material.

    Political-incorrectness for political-incorrectness' sake.
Funny in places, but flat in others. Ultimately iconsistant

The problem with Team America is not the film but rather the audience. People have to see this for what it is. No, not stupid, but incredibly smart. People who do not acknowledge this and always see the thin veil of stupidity that covers it will not enjoy it as much.

Smart? Ho...( read more)w is this smart? Well, I will tell you. As with South Park, the humour itself is violent, crude and rude but there is deeper, ingenius forms of comedy involved. It is hard to explain, but the jokes are smartly written. Written in a way that is funny on the outlook beacause of the toilet humour, it is funny on all sorts of levels that hide beneath it. The way they are delivered helps a lot but the way they mean so much more is the smartest part. People who watch South Park and Team America often overlook these hidden depths and fail to realise the true intellegence of the writers, Trey parker and Matt Stone. They use subtle satire and at times not so subtle. They play with the conventions of comedy and make a comedy out of comedies. To enjoy this film, you have to see it this way. To see it this way, you have to open your minds and accept that this is not a crap guilty pleasure and is infact true comic gold.

People may think this is a pretty big defense and of course it isn't one to fill the shoes of comedy from Charlie Chaplin and other comic legends out there, it never will be but it does remain an overlooked film because of how people perceive it.

Team America is full of the kind of comedy we should all love. Offensive, un-pc, violent and rude. Snootty audience members need to grow up. It may seem strange that I am saying this about a film like Team America but by turning away from this kind of comedy, you are being less grown up than you think. Everyone needs to get in touch with immaturity, otherwise you cannot enjoy life and will end up an old bastard moaning about The Daily Mail and anything deemed offensive. Some things offend people, some don't and moaning and complaining won't change the world, so just get on with life and ignor what offends you. Perhaps this is what the true genius of smutty humour is; showing people that they should enjoy life more and be immature once in a while.
