The cyborg who once tried to kill Sarah Connor must now protect her teenager son, John Connor, from an even more powerful and advanced cyborg.

    Arnold Schwarzenegger: The Terminator

    ''Hasta la vista, baby.''

The first Terminator project was a modest success at the box office in 1984; by 1990, millions of people were anxious for a sequel. James Cameron granted their wish and again exceeded expectations with his effort.
The sequel is 10 years later, based upon the age of the central character (played by newcomer Ed Furlong from American History X). Cameron was provided with a budget exceeding the original picture a hundred fold over, and used this to his advantage. Notably, this was an early use of computer FX which are prevalent today; back then, they were simply amazing to behold (this was before even Jurassic Park, and each instance of their use was mind blowing). Most of the best examples of effects used in T2, revolved around the T-1000 super-villain (Robert Patrick), a revolutionary approach to depicting a fantastic menace. Arnold was back as another durable cyborg, a multi-layered hero this time, the big man was on the side of good.

The film was another impressive progression of action and suspense, interlocked with the theme of nuclear holocaust. More than just building on the threat of nuclear annihilation from the 1st pic, the picture throws the concept at the audience with some striking images. It slows at about the halfway point when the heroes evade the pursuing super-killer for a time, but then you see that nuclear bomb going off, still about the best such depiction ever seen. Just when you think you can relax for a few minutes, a city blows up. By this time, the definitive version of this film is the extended cut Cameron presented a couple of years later. The extra scenes accentuate the plot and elaborate the story wonders, not that they needed it, but it's a nice little dessert for fans.

''I need your clothes, boots and your motorcycle.''

Like all the best sequels, it presents characters which progress and advance. This is especially true of Linda Hamilton's character; she's really lived those past 10 years and is a much older, much stronger mother figure here, moulded by ceaseless struggle. She really does turn out to be the mother of the future, as mentioned in the original Terminator, obsessed with saving us all from a nuclear Armageddon. Arnold, of course, has to play a more human-like, more understanding cyborg, very different from the mono-syllabic droid he interpreted in the previous installment. The film pulls another fast one in the beginning, still keeping the audience guessing as to which is the heroic protector, Arnold or the T-1000(the T-1000 actually seems more human than Arnold in the first segment). When the hero turns out to be Arnold, the viewer claps in appreciation for a fine role reversal. We had to wait another dozen years for the next one, but it could never match this baby.

Overall, Terminator 2: Judgement Day is not like other typical actioners, which are usually mindless, moronic and are little more than an excuse to eat snacks and put on in the background as mindless accompaniment. Instead, it's got depth, emotion, character and is highly memorable, and keeps you glued to the screen throughout; as well as boasting some astounding action and suspense while flaunting state of the art effects at the time, which still look good to this day. T2 is quite possibly the best action film and a unrivaled sequel, in existence, and I'm predicting that it will hold that honour for all time...Lastly, just picture this; Patrick Patrick running; his arms going up and down; his hands straight; that droning, mesmerizing sound of toned dread pounding in the background. This is a thrilling, timeless piece of action/thriller art which squeezes at your heart strings. Just writing about T2 makes me want to watch it again, then melt everytime...and hear those iconic lines...Arnie will be back! and thus viewers will be back for repeated viewings everytime.

''The future's not set. There's no fate but what we make for ourselves.''

I had to reduce this movie to 4 stars because of how annoying and bad Edward Furlong was here. Damn! Other than that Arnold and Robert Patrick are awesome, great effects.

T-2 is one of the greatest sci-fi/action movies of all time and Arnold Schwarzenegger's best film as well.

11 years have passed since Sarah Connor destroyed the first Terminator that was sent back in time to kill her. Sarah has now been incarcerated in a mental institution for her belief that Skynet and machines are going to rise up someday. Her son, John Connor, is living with foster parents whom he can't stand. He is rebellious and is getting into trouble with the law regularly, but all that is about too change. Skynet has sent back a prototype Terminator back in time, called the T-1000, to terminate John Connor. The T-1000 is nearly unstoppable as it is basically a liquid metal killing machine. The Human Resistance of the future have sent back their best hope of protecting John Connor from this threat, a reprogrammed Terminator who looks identical to The Terminator that was sent back in time to kill Sarah Connor. The Terminator's only purpose now is to locate John Connor before the T-1000 does and somehow destroy this enemy and save mankind's future.

Most people say that James Cameron's film, Titanic, is considered his best work as it took in numerous awards and billions of dollars at the box office. I say that this film is James Cameron's true masterpiece as it had such an effect on how films are made and in pop culture. The T-1000 was revolutionary, Arnold possibly set the apex for an action hero, and there are numerous scenes from this film that are instantly recognized when they are seen on-screen, re-enacted, or parodied. This film is still recognized today as being one of the best films ever made.

He said he'd be back and he is in fact, back and better than ever. Arnold Schwarzenegger has gone from being the bad guy in a film that made him famous, to returning as the same machine and protecting mankind's hero. When you first see Arnold, he has come from the future and is in the nude showing off his muscles. The first scene where we see him walking down some steps, fully clothed in black leather, set attuned to George Thorogood's "Bad to the Bone," it is then you realize that this guy is a bad ass and can take on anybody who pisses him off. The scene completes itself when The Terminator dons the black sunglasses, has a shotgun in hand, and rides away in a cool looking motorcycle. Arnold plays his role perfectly as he is just awesome in action scenes, is funny when his character is learning about humans with John Connor, and his character is touching at the conclusion of the film. Arnold has managed to rank The Terminator on AFI's 100 Years... 100 Heroes and Villains, as number 48 on the hero side, and number 22 on the villain side. It is the only character on both side of the list to do this. This role and film is the high mark of Schwarzenegger's career and is still being remembered to day thanks to his portrayal and the delivery of signature one-liners.

Linda Hamilton has returned as Sarah Connor, and she is fiercer than ever. Sarah has gone partially psychotic over the years because of the toll of her war against Judgment Day has had on her. She has dreams of humanity being annihilated via nuclear holocaust and has dreams or apparitions of her one true love, Kyle Reese. She is a warrior Madonna set out to protect her son, the messiah of the human race's war against the machines. Sarah has become much stronger over the years and does her best to prepare against another threat from the future. Throughout the film, it appears that her over protection of her son has strained their relationship and that she doesn't love him as a mother should. By the end of the film, it is revealed she will do anything for her son and her love for him is a mother's love. Linda Hamilton has done an incredible job with her character in this film and it is her best performance I have ever seen. The debate rages on to this day as to who is the Queen of female action stars. Is it Sigourney Weaver as Ellen Ripley or Linda Hamilton as Sarah Connor? In my book, I would have to say it is a tie as the too are just so fun to watch and you feel like no man can take them down.

Edward Furlong is John Connor, mankind's last and best hope. This is one of the few movies where a young child is a focal point of the movie and doesn't screw the whole thing up for the audience. John Connor is young in this film, but the viewer can see that someday this young man will someday be able to have the wits, strength, and skill to lead humanity to victory. Furlong has great interaction with other characters, especially The Terminator. Even though The Terminator is a machine, the two's relationship is like father and son. The Terminator would never get drunk, yell, or hit John as he would always be there to protect and serve him. By the end of the film, thanks to John, The Terminator understands the value of human life and leaves the viewer in wonder if a machine knows what love and sadness is as the two must part ways. This part of the film can be emotional for some as this action movie is that damn good.

Robert Patrick is the villain of this film, the T-1000. The T-1000 still remains as one of cinema's best monsters. The T-1000 doesn't have the bulk that the first Terminator had, but Robert Patrick's thin, strong build and cold eyes make the machine look like some deranged killer. This is interesting as the the character is always dressed up as a police officer. Add in the top notch special effects that transform the machine into different machinations of death multiple times, and this character is hard to match. The T-1000 is only able to replicate objects of equal size (i.e. people) and can only protrude knives and stabbing weapons from itself. When it kills and inflicts pain on others, it seems as if this machine takes pleasure in it. The T-1000 hints at machines knowing what evil is and The Terminator hints that machines know what good is. The Terminator says it is unlikely it can destroy this liquid metal chimera but Arnold should not doubt himself as fans know he can terminate anything.

The action scenes in this film are simply iconic as they are easily recognizable and have been copied many times over the years. While the first Terminator film had a good "big truck action scene," this film topped it by having the T-1000 chasing down John Connor on a dirt bike while The Terminator is attempting to rescue John. This film also has a ton more guns. The Terminator goes crazy with shotguns, machine guns, miniguns, grenade launchers and pretty much anything accept and A-bomb. But when you see Arnold wreaking havoc with these weapons, it's as if you are seeing the detonation of an A-bomb of awesomeness. Seeing the T-1000 going head to head with The Terminator is a real treat and these two titans just destroy the rooms they are fighting in as the two just keep trying to outwit and outdo the other.

The special effects in this film still hold their own against half the crap Hollywood shits out in modern times. The T-1000 still looks just as good as it did when this film was released. The detonation of nuclear warheads and the effect it has on human beings is still horrific and cool to see. The music in this film outdoes its predecessor in every way. The signature Terminator theme goes along beautifully with whatever scene it is used in, whether it is visions of the future, the cue of The Terminator strolling in, balls to the wall action scenes, or the film's tender moments.

For the freaks out there who like to nitpick about the plot, they could surely complain about this film as it deals with time travel, but the person who actually enjoys movies will just throw that problem out the door. Each scene in this film sets up the next one. No scene is a waste of time and you wish the movie was longer.

Can a machine learn and truly understand the value of human life? This is what the film comes down to and what sacrifice is necessary for the characters of this story to live on, love each other, and hope for a better day. This film is great action and great science fiction incarnate. Arnold has never looked more bad ass and the T-1000 is a worthy enemy to face off with in this flick. This film will probably always rank up high on the greatest films ever made lists out there and it can be watched again and again and still be just as enjoyable. It is a memorable classic film definitely worth seeing by any movie watcher out there.
