  A mixed bag that I mostly enjoyed thanks to hyperbolic statements of the film's ineptitude. It really wasn't all that bad, and there were some moments that were actually quite good in terms of comedy. Adam Sandler plays a deadbeat dad who fathered a child with his teacher at the age of 14. The opening scenes of the teacher seducing the child are offensive and mishandled, but not because of their content, but because the film doesn't challenge itself later on and tries to convince us the characters were in love. Andy Samberg plays his role too straight, and Sandler is too obnoxious. BUT, there is at least one silver lining in the most unexpected of places, with Vanilla Ice playing himself in a self-deprecating role that has all the best material, including the final punchline for a warped tattoo joke, and a race against the clock in a car that has to turn into a foot race. The film is more misses than hits, but it also just doesn't give a damn.

Adam Sandler and Andy Samberg have AMAZING chemistry, and I think we are expecting more from the duo, well, hopefully! Susan Sarandon and Vanilla Ice are in the movie, yeah it's kind of weird, but hey, its funny! While still in his teens, Donny (Adam Sandler) fathered a son, Todd (Andy Samberg), and raised him as a single parent up until Todd's 18th birthday. Now, after not seeing each other for years, Todd's world comes crashing down on the eve of his wedding when an uninvited Donny suddenly shows up. Trying desperately to reconnect with his son, Donny is now forced to deal with the repercussions of his bad parenting skills.

  Sandler has done it again! Insulted our intelligence, that is, with another cringe-worthy effort of a comedy. Because after setting a new record in degeneracy with last year's turkey <i>Jack and Jill</i>, it's hardly surprising to see <i>That's My Boy</i> getting on the bullet train to the straight-to-DVD shelf. At least as far as Sweden goes. Already in the opening, I'm getting blips on my shit detector as the teenage version Sandler's character goes on to knock up one of his teachers before a cheering auditorium, whereupon she gets thrown into the joint and he is delegated the responsibility of raising their son. Nothing objectionable about that premise per se, for who doesn't fondly remember <i>Juno</i> with a lovely Ellen Page as a teenage mom? However, where <i>Juno</i> delivered cute indie charm and well-written dialogue, <i>That's My Boy</i> is more at the level of the MTV series <i>16 and Pregnant</i>, if not more substance-devoid yet. As we skip ahead to present day, Donny and his son Todd (who was baptized as Han Solo Berger, but for understandable reasons changed his name) have drifted completely apart. Todd, who is played by The Lonely Island's Andy Samberg, wants nothing to do with his deadbeat dad, but is soon shanghaied into a reunion as Donny picks up on the news that his estranged son is about to get married. Awkwardness ensues - and yeah, that's pretty much how it goes. Unsympathetic characters and horrible acting from everyone between the main cast to the extras, makes it a challenge to extract any joy from this slovenly brewed gallimaufry. Adding insult to injury, the sludge is furthermore smeared out over a godforsaken two-hour running time. All I can say in terms of positives, is that isn't fully as insufferable as the suck-fest <i>Jack and Jill</i>. But that's like comparing a derailed night on the town with a hygienically questionable restaurant visit - either way you'll drop to your knees, with many a prayers to the porcelain gods. And by the time you glance at the clock - because trust me, it'll happen - you'll be in misery to know that there's still 1 hour and 55 minutes left to go.

  What's worse about this than...well, everything about this, is that there was effort made by a large faction of the cast. People actually tried to make this a good movie, and why I can't tell. Adam Sandler is no longer a box office giant or a semi-critical darling; that was proved by the complete lack of trying on Jack and Jill (2011). So why did this come into being? What possible purpose does this film exact but to torture us and ruin careers? Well, to that I say, people still enjoy Adam Sandler movies. People who don't care about content and just want to watch gross humor love his films and the friends he chooses to put in them. Now, the concept or plot isn't all too interesting, but the people involved acted their hearts out. Andy Samberg, already having floundered with his first film debacle, Hot Rod (2007) obviously made this to act alongside his idol, former SNL cast member Adam Sandler, and actually impressed me with his broad approach to humor and his strange likability. There were a lot of strangely impressive cameos from everyone from Vanilla Ice and Todd Bridges, to a small part played by none other than James Caan. Even Leighton Meester as a repressed bride to be and Milo Ventimiglia as her paranoid soldier brother gave solid performances. The main problems lie solely in the humor, not what content it reflects, but why it's not funny. There aren't any real jokes. Things are funny because she's fat, or she's old, or he's a priest. They're jokes that rely on shock humor in an age where half the online population has seen Two Girls One Cup. Everyone tries extremely hard to make this into a trashy guilty pleasure, but I just felt guilty after watching it, maybe a little dirty and grimy as well. Sandler is the cornerstone, and yes his antics and problematic story do build the plot successfully, and sometimes he cops a cheap laugh, but he is the only one acting like a whore for this film. He does the stupid voice and flounders a bit and calls it a performance. It just isn't fair to the likes of Susan Sarandon, Nick Swardson (who really does nothing), and Luenell, bless her. It's just getting phony, though I buy into it every time. Damn Sandler, you're good.

  I've been an Adam Sandler fan since his SNL days, but some of his last few movies have stunk. "Jack and Jill", need I say more? Luckily, he returns to form here and this is right up there with some of his better movies(no quite "Happy Gilmore", but around "Mr. Deeds"). This is a good old fashioned R-Rated comedy, with lots of raunch. Sandler plays Donny, a guy who fathered a kid when he was 14 with his teacher. Todd(Andy Samberg) is his estranged grown son, and he is about to get married. Donny needs 43,000 dollars to pay the IRS or he is going to prison. He devises a plan to reunite with his son, and do a tv interview at the prison where his teacher mother is to get the money. What ensues is a lot crazy outrageous stuff between trashy Donny, and Todd's new rich lifestyle. There will be a lot of people put off by this, or don't really care for it. But if your a degenerate like me, you'll find a lot of humor. The movie runs nearly 2 hours long, which is a bit much, but the laughs keep coming throughout. Sandler and Samberg have great chemistry, and hopefully they continue to do films together. it's great to see that Sandler can still make very funny, adult comedies. Definitely worth a watch or two.

  With every Adam Sandler's movie comes the same redundant plotline with the same type of slapstick humor... but I can't deny that it wasn't a horrendous time; it entertains with a few punchlines that hit you right in the gut. Oh, it surely does fall flat compared to his Sandler's previous efforts and yes, it's widely hated by many critics, but when coming to watch a movie with the lowest of expectations, its entertaining enough.

  There are definitely worse Adam Sandler films out there, but this one takes the cake the raunchiest. After knocking up his seventh grade teacher, Donnie (Sandler) ends up dirt poor by his 40's and needs to rely on his rich son to keep him out of prison. This premise is very dumb and doesn't work most of the time, but there are some subtle moments between the two leads that save this film from the train wreck that it could have been. I laughed quite a few times, but mainly just on how stupid it truly was. Adam Sandler has officially lost his touch, and this film proves that his films will never be the same. He is making films for money alone, so I hope this film fails. It's good for a cheap laugh, but honestly, if you thik about the movie really hard you will hate it!

  In a theater full of Adam Sandler fans, no one can hear you scream. Horribly directed by Sean Anders, inexplicably using a handheld camera for almost the entire film (seriously, this may technically be the worst directed Sandler movie ever) and written by David Caspe (Happy Endings), "That's My Boy" showcases the return of Adam Sandler, playing another one of his dumb little characters, but this time with an ultra-annoying Boston accent. The plot surrounds a jerky and very minor celebrity named Donny (Sandler), who is only famous for getting his teacher pregnant while in middle school. After growing up, wasting all of his money and becoming estranged with his son (Andy Samberg) Donny hatches a plan to reunite with his (now rich) son just days before his son's wedding. And in the midst of all of this, you have Leighton Meester (The Roommate) contributing absolutely nothing to the storyline, while shockingly being in almost every scene. Long story short, "That's my Boy" is more of the same, with Adam Sandler and his buddies taking a promising but super thin premise (more befitting a ten minute SNL skit) stretching it out into a two hour movie and pummeling the audience with countless cameos throughout, in lieu of content. Side Note: OK, so this isn't as imbecilic as "Jack and Jill" or "Just Go with It", but if that is not miniscule praise propped up against major failures, then I don't know what is. Is it funny to hear Tony Orlando curse in an unnatural fashion, or hear Leighton Meester awkwardly refer to a someone as "a vagina" or hear an elderly woman talk about her sexual experiences? Well, maybe for a second...not for two hours! So, none should be surprised when I make the bold proclamation of how there is really only one laugh in this "comedy"; and it's not coming from Sandler. And even more sadly, the only laugh comes within the first few minutes and involves Rex Ryan. Or maybe this is a good thing, because as soon as the laugh happens, audiences can collectively get up and leave. The writing and jokes here from Caspe are not only bad but boring as well, and, in true Sandler-esque fashion, all framed with skits that are aggressively driven into the ground. All of the scenes between Samberg and Sandler are simply the two riffing back and forth for far too long, the cameos from Orlando, Vanilla Ice and every SNL has been, are all cringe inducing and the film as a whole is so tonally all over the place (a penis joke is followed by a scene of sentimentality) that even the most loyal Sandler-fanboy will be so confused at what to laugh at, they will stop laughing all together. The Acting: While Andy Sandler...I mean Andy Samberg, tries to save "That's My Boy" with his "unique" style of physical humor, overall this film may only serve as a very disturbing crystal ball (peak-into-the-future) moment for this young comedian. In short, when I say that Vanilla Ice out acts everyone in this film, that alone should let you know how unwatchable the performances here are. And, while nobody comes to Sandler films for the acting, the fact that this movie is laced with atrocious performances is still quite surprising only because this film co-stars the likes of James Caan and (SPOILER ALERT) Susan Sarandon. I'll say it now, if you are an established actor who has been up for awards and/or been in movies like "The Godfather" and are thinking about co-starring in an Adam Sandler "comedy", then you should undoubtedly think long and hard about retiring from acting all together, because you have just hit rock bottom. This includes you too Al Pacino. I know you weren't in this film, but your presence in "Jack and Jill" warrants a rescinding of your Oscar. As for Sandler himself, he gives yet another Razzie worthy performance. Final Thought: In two words, "That's My Boy" is "hot garbage". But as much as I pray that one day Adam Sandler will stop making films (if this is the type of film he wants to make) I will go out on a limb and say that he will keep on pumping out these crappy movies as long as millions of devoted Sandler-philes will pay 10 dollars for mediocre entertainment. So, for every person that came up to me (or wrote to me) after my reviews of "Grown Ups", "Just Go With It" and "Jack and Jill", complaining about how "I just don't know how to have fun in movies", please, go to your mirror right now and look yourself in the eyes. This is your wake up call. You are the sole reason these big-budget, unwatchable, catastrophically mind-numbing movies keep getting made (and I'm not just talking about Sandler movies).   Let me start by saying I'm not a Sandler-fanatic. So trolls be calm. I do however think this is one of the funniest films I've seen in a loong time. Let me explain. Is it stupid? Yes. Is Sandler's voice annoying? Yes! Is is highly disturbing at points? YES! BUT, it knows what it is... a ronchy comedy with heart. Yes, this film actually has a heart. In fact this is (and I cant believe I'm saying this) Adam Sandler's best performances. The jokes we're consistant and well constructed. (unlike Jack & Jill) It had a plot with a beginning, middle & end. (unlike Jack & Jill) And most of all, it's entertaining as Hell! (do I need to say it?) The best part of this film has to be the relationship of Adam Sandler and Andy Samberg. I was worried because Samberg was my favorite from SNL and when I found out he was joining Happy Madison I was worried he would be the new David Spade or Rob Schneider. But I was so happy to see him actually do well in this. Andy Samberg's character juxtaposed with Adam Sandler's character so well in this, That's what really helped this film. Instead of this being the Adam Sandler Show, Andy Samberg was funny and got to goof around alot and do what he does best. Without giving any spoilers (yeah... this film has spoilers) the beer jokes were so well constructed into the film. Usually those type of gags dont go well with me but it was so perfectly written I couldn't help but laugh each time. Bravo to the writters. Sandler needs to learn to stay out of the script and just ab-lib while filmming. I've realized that's when he's at his best. This is not the perfect film and I only give a film 5 stars if I can watch it with anyone, which I cant do for this film. But it well deserves a 4. I do understand that meny dont want to promote Sandler after his last train wreck but this is the sign that the Sandler we all know and love still exist. And this is the perfect film for Samberg to come out of SNL with. Now all he needs is a D**k In The Box film.

That's My Boy is able to back up Jack and Jill in that sad truth. Adam Sandler plays this washed up, drunken loser who owes a bunch of money in unpaid taxes and he figures the only way to get the money is to go visit his son that he fathered when he nailed his teacher as a student. Within the first 30 minutes of the movie I was like "The first half hour of this movie is more crude than the entire Hangover movie." I'm not kidding, the vulgarity of this movie is just shoved in your face throughout the enitre movie. I think it was the director's way of trying to make us like Sandler's character even though I just hated him more and more as the movie progressed. The voice he pulls is just annoying to listen to. It's not as unbearable as his girl voice in Jack and Jill, but it's very close. The rest of the characters are all also forgettable. I was expecting a halfway decent performance from Andy Samberg as Sandler's son, but he was just this stereotypical wealthy guy with no personality. He comes off as this guy who would so much as cringe at the sight of a girl wearing a mini-skirt and be all "My wife wouldn't want me within 500 feet of a girl wearing something like that and I agree....those are gross." The movie also has Leighton Meester, that shitty actress from that shitty movie, The Roommate. She sucks in this movie as well and I knew what little career she had would now be diminished after this movie. There are also a lot of unnecessary cameos in the movie. Vanilla Ice is one of them and his role was just as pointless as this movie. James Caan was also in it and that just saddened me. Sandler has suckered a bunch of great actors into his movies, first Al Pacino, now it's James Cann. Next he'll probably get Tom Hanks to be in his movie about Sandler being a newspaper delivery boy who wants to run his own crude newspaper business. (That's pretty much my prediction for Sandler's next movie.) Normally in an Adam Sandler, you'll expect at least a few laughs, but this movie lacked those. Nothing in the movie made me laugh. Everything was eith predictable or just a plethora of tasteless jokes regarding sexual body parts or alcohol. Is this movie worse than Jack and Jill? No, it's not, but that's saying nothing to benefit the film. It's not funny, the characters are either one dimensional or annying, it's predictable, it's mean spirited, the acting sucks and the worst part is it just dragged on and on. I was sitting in the theater just begging for the end credits to show up but the movie kept playing. When the credits started rolling, it felt like I had just sat through a 3 hour movie even though it was just over an hour and a half. From now on, it's just best to avoid Adam Sandler films.

  That's My Boy is an agonizing, sick, and twisted experience that has proven to me that Adam Sandler's career is beyond saving. I mean I thought this film could be an improvement over Jack and Jill because it wasn't directed by Dennis Dugan, but it proved to be one of the most agonizing and annoying films I have seen in a long time, and the worst film I have seen this year so far. I mean almost the entire film is jokes about genitals, sex, and masturbation. I thought Andy Samberg even had a chance to save it from being a total disaster, but he didn't improve the film at all. When watching the first 15 minutes of the film, I knew instantly that it was only going to get worse, and boy was I right. I actually want to thank Sandler in a way, he has shown me over the years how terrible a comedy can truly be, and I think this film proves that it's only going to get worse in the future. I have seen very few movies in my lifetime where every single character is completely unlikeable and creepy as the people in this film. As long as I have a single breath in my body, I will do everything in my power to never see this film again, and I don't recommend it to anyone on this earth or the next. The story follows Donny (Adam Sandler) who had sex with his teacher 30 years ago and it caused a pregnancy where he gave birth to a son (Andy Samberg). His son Todd is getting married and Donny owes about $42,000 in a few days or else he goes to jail. He decides to reunite him, his son, and his wife (who is in jail) for a new show to earn $50 grand. But this means he must go visit his son (who he has not spoken to in years) and get him to love him again. But it will take a lot to get Todd to care about him after years of bad parenting. But they may discover that they have a lot more in common than they believe. The plot is a spinning vortex of the worst kind of hell, and I mean from start to finish I wondered how in the hell somebody could be so stupid and twisted in the head to write something like this. It felt like they wrote this script just so they could let Adam Sandler be a creepy asshole that talks about nothing but sex and genitals. The jokes were so bad that it made me question my faith in God. I wondered how anybody could let something this sick and twisted be written. The characters don't even try to be funny; they all are just creepy and demented human beings that follow the same trend of most Adam Sandler comedies. I think the worst part about the film though is that its rated R. This gives the film permission to do whatever it wants and that was the worst mistake I have seen in a long time. It completely takes everything too far and turns it into a disgusting and horrible film that should be banned for simply just existing. I thought some of the cameos from people like Vanilla Ice and Nick Swardson could help, but if anything they made it worse. They give the cameos some decent laughs at the start with short scenes, but soon they start using them more and more until they just become these twisted people that we don't like. I hated the story, characters, and script and I hope that people realize how awful this film truly is. The cast is one of the worst things that the film has, and when I say this, and about 90% of that fault goes to Adam Sandler. Adam Sandler has had a string of awful films for the past few years now and I don't know if he just doesn't care anymore or just hates his fans, because his career is going nowhere but down. They give him some weird voice in the film that makes him sound like he has some sort of animal in his throat, he dresses like a homeless man, and he just looks as bad as his acting. His character was written perfectly for him, because nobody could ever make this film worse except for him. Andy Samberg recently quit SNL to do more films, and I can say right now that if this is his future, I would beg for my job back. I mean he is unfunny the entire time and I could only feel bad at how much pain he will get for being in such a bad film. I honestly thought he would be the savior and bring some decent laughs, but boy was I wrong. What is with all these actors from The Godfather being in these Adam Sandler comedies? I mean first it was Al Pacino in Jack and Jill and now James Caan in this film, I mean if I see Robert DeNiro in his next movie I will die. The rest of the cast such as Leighton Meester, Vanilla Ice, Milo Ventimiglia, and the rest of them are all unfunny and not at all memorable, and just going to be the names on the credits of another failure Adam Sandler film. That's My Boy has a runtime of almost 2 hours, I mean before I would only have to deal with him for like 90 minute films, but now I had to endure his stupidity for a full 2 hours length. If somebody told me they enjoyed this film I would ask certain questions such as "were you on drugs?' or "were you dropped on your head as child and will laugh at any penis that comes on a movie screen?" I mean the film is just demented and felt more like a pornographic comedy, but instead of comedy, we get Sandler. If a man got me sent to jail for 30 years and then I got out, I would use this film as one of my instruments of torture by making him watch it over and over until he had the same headache I had after just one viewing. You know what really makes me mad about Adam Sandler though? What makes me mad is that he is actually a funny man, I used to laugh all the time when he was on SNL and even a few of his movies from years ago, but over the years he has been in such crappy films that most people (including myself) have lost a lot of respect for him. I know it's harsh, but I truly think Sandler's films are beyond saving. I mean maybe if he started a television show that was funny I would watch it, but I can just tell at this point that there is no hope left for this guy. I do not recommend this film to any living soul on the planet, and if you enjoyed this, I recommend you get your head examined.

  I read nothing good about this comedy starring Adam Sandler, Andy Samberg, and Leighton Meester. The film received negative reviews from critics, it was a box office failure - failing to bring back its $70 million budget, has been subject of controversy and criticism due to its comedic portrayal of paedophilia, incest and statutory rape... list goes on and on... The script was written by David Caspe and directed by Sean Anders and they managed together this to become the sixth Sandler film to be rated R. I agree with most of the things written about it but this movie was so wrong, so politically incorrect, so raw and rough around the edges - that all of us watching it laughed our heads off! And there was a few of us with different cultural background, age, sex, race... The crazy story begins in 1984, when a 13-year-old Donny Berger has an affair with his 22-year-old teacher, Mary McGarricle and they are caught having sex. She is sentenced to 30 years and she gave birth to a baby boy Donny names Han Solo Berger... Story continues on Han Solo's preparations for his wedding. What is the theme is easy to guess: the film was originally titled I Hate You, Dad, it was then changed to Donny's Boy before the producers finally settled on That's My Boy. It is very vulgar, trite, sexist, misogynist, hacky, tacky, gross, sentimental and sometimes really stupid (with occasional flourishes of racism and veiled homophobia) - and funny.

  Occasionally Adam Sandler channels his inner demons and goes back to his roots to make an unbelievably funny movie. Based on his recent track record, it's sometimes hard to remember, but when Adam Sandler is on, he is one of the funniest people alive, and That's My Boy is a prime example of it. This is hands down the funniest Sandler film I've seen in the last 10 years. The story follows a 13 year old boy, who becomes a national celebrity, after he knocks up his 7th grade teacher. Fast forward 20 years and that boy is a has-been, and his son is off the radar, but that's all about to change when dad sees a wedding notice in the newspaper. The movie isn't just funny, it's actually a pretty good story, and the cameos are amazing. I'm certainly not going to give anything away, but even if you're not a huge Sandler fan, the movie is worth watching just for the unbelievable cameos, by people I haven't seen in years. I went in hoping to see a classic Sandler movie and was not disappointed, this is one of the funniest movies of the year and you shouldn't miss it!

  The film was better than Jack and Jill, but not great. They had a really good idea for a film, however, they didn't execute it correctly. The opening was solid and hilarious. After the opening credits, the film goes downhill. The problems: 1) Adam Sandler's voice in the film was terrible. He should have used his regular voice for the character. The voice that he uses was annoying in the film. 2) Andy Samberg was miscast as Sandler's son. There is no chemistry between him and Sandler. They should have casted Michael Cera or Jonah Hill for the son role. On the positive, the best thing in the film is the mother and daughter team of Susan Sarandon and Eva Amurri Martino. They are so good in the film, but they only appear very briefly in the film. They should have had more screen time in the film. They were hilarious. Vanilla Ice was also very good in the film. So was Todd Bridges in his small role spoofing himself. I am hoping Adam's next film will be better.
