S. Jhoanna Robledo, Common Sense Media
Sweet, teen-friendly rom-com borders on the cliched.
-
Amy Nicholson, I.E. Weekly
There's little fun in being asked to identify with yet another female character who spends her running time being shamed like a dog who soiled the rug.
-
David Cornelius, DVDTalk.com
Sub-lousy hackneyed crapola all the way, a complete disaster, one of the year's worst movies.
-
Brian Orndorf, DVDTalk.com
The film is hinged on unapologetic formula, looking to enchant the viewer through the act of repetition, but the writing isn't smart enough to wipe the dust off the plot.

Derek Malcolm, This is London
Words almost fail me after watching this terrible romantic comedy from Griffin Dunne which is perilously described as a "sort of Carole Lombard screwball comedy". Would that it were.

Sadly, as Thurman dithers between her two suitors - one a fiery free spirit, the other as wet as an otter's pocket - her decisions become ever more baffling. Even her sparky performance fails to fire the rather soggy finale.
-
Anthony Quinn, Independent
A plot of insufferable silliness contrives to keep the lovers on tenterhooks and the audience in a permanent cringe, none of it helped by Thurman's thoroughly phony performance.
-
, Sun Online
This ludicrous effort is more catastrophe than accident.
-
Peter Bradshaw, Guardian [UK]
This week we learned that 99% of Sun readers want a return to capital punishment. I learned that 100% of me wants it for 100% of people involved in this romcom.
-
Stella Papamichael, BBC
The prognosis: a total emotional block.
-
Jane Crowther, Total Film
Limp, transparently plotted flight fodder.
-
Tim Evans, Sky Movies
Even rom-com's need a relatively believable premise but the idea that you can find yourself hitched as a result of a few clicks on your keyboard is really pushing it.
-
Rich Cline, Shadows on the Wall
A hodge-podge of random story elements that seem to emerge from the land that logic forgot, including a Bollywood segment.
-
Matthew Turner, ViewLondon
Dismal romantic comedy that gets everything wrong, thanks to an appalling script, bad performances, embarrassing stereotypes, zero chemistry between the leads and painfully unfunny jokes.

Another one under the category of okay to have on in the background. Nothing more. Possibly a little worse than the average rom com.

No wonder why the rating is so low :|

A badly produced, horribly clichéd, sadly dreary romantic comedy starring Uma Thurman in another role that feels oh so awkward on the supernova, and hunks Colin Firth and Jeffery Dean Morgan. The bulk of romantic comedies aren't anything to write home about, but sometimes they work, especially when they're well plotted or the concept is something genuinely not so absurd, like in When Harry Met Sally and Return to Me. What we have here is another story about a repressed blonde with a penchant for not falling in love until, low and behold, Jeffery Dean Morgan shows up in a madcap venture to sweep the bubbly beauty off her high heeled feet. Because of Firth (and solely because of Firth) I gave this critical and commercial failure a look over and was just as disappointed as you would expect from an Uma Thurman romantic comedy. (Other such failures have included My Super Ex-Girlfriend and Prime.) The soundtrack was really exceptional, but that dreadful score sounded like a cheap template off Microsoft's website. It just felt half assed and cheesy, like a Goldie Hawn movie from the sixties, except more production value and none of the charm of a ditzy blonde. Just, not, worth anything.

This romantic comedy is based on a rather fresh, even if unrealistic idea: taking revenge on the radio show host who ruined your marriage by making her your wife through hacking the according papers. That makes for plenty of confusion and wonderfully embarrassing encounters, or could, if the movie dared to go there and be a little more mean. Fact is, Thurman and Morgan's character get along so well right from the start that there isn't even much conflict going on, more a running around with the paper work. There are some decent scenes making use of the potential, but overall there is just too much harmony. Uma Thurman also just doesn't seem to be in her preferred genre with this comedy, her acting is quite over the top and doesn't hold up to her rather charming male counter parts. The result is not boring but kind of arbitrary at times, trying to add quirky scenes, like the cake tasting or the Indian Bar Mitzwa, that feel forced and random. Could have been a lot better with a spicier script.

watched this for the second time last night and still love it~! Dr. Emma Lloyd (Uma Thurman) hosts a popular radio show in which she hands out relationship advice,After a call to her show, Sofia (Justina Machado) decides not to go ahead with her planned marriage to New York firefighter Patrick Sullivan (Jeffrey Morgan). Furious, and seeking revenge, Patrick uses a computer whizz friend to hack into the New York marriage database and 'marry' him to Emma....Emma finds out just as she is about to marry Richard (Colin Firth), and seeks an annulment from Patrick.well of course as we all know things dont always go according to plan, and no, he isnt going to grant it that easily, and the incredible circumstances might just change the way Patrick and Emma feel about each other.
not a bad movie,a light hearted "chick flick" ...love colin firth in anything uma is another fave actress and Jeffrey is hot to trot!!!

It's funny and has its share of romance> you sorta feel bad as it's sorting itself out, but it all works out the way it should.

I thought that this was cute primarily because of Colin Firth and Jeffrey Dean Morgan (who is an adorable hunk). Uma Thurman invented the word "overacting". But all in all cute and romantic.

Uma is Emma the love doctor on the radio. She advises one of her listeners to dump her fiancé. The ex sets out for revenge including filing for marriage. Original and quite funny storyline.

Not a bad little romance comedy. Storyline was OK. Seen better acting from all three leads. But none the less worth a rental on a boring night.

Uma Thurman is Dr. Emma Lloyd, with a daily radio show dispensing advice to callers. Her message is to find real love, not temporary love. She herself has met her perfect man, Colin Firth as Richard Bratton, and they plan to marry in a few weeks.........................
This film is a romantic comedy.

All 3 leads shine in this film. Uma Thurman, Colin Firth, and Jeffrey Dean Morgan have a great on screen chemistry. The film reminded me of films like Overboard and My Best Friend's Wedding. I definitely recommend this film.

With this cast I expected something a little better, and despite it's charm it fell somewhere between being a sappy Lifetime movie and poorly executed romantic comedy.
-
Pretty cute movie. I really like Jeffrey Dean Morgan, so he made the movie entertaining for me. It was pretty funny though.

Nice little love story...who doesn't like Firefighters!!!

I don't like Uma Thurman, the only things that I like her in are Quentin Tarantino movies, otherwise she's absolutely horrible. Colin Firth was probably the strongest actor, but he kept bothering me because he had a weird look on his face.
It wasn't very funny, two lines, I think got an almost-chuckle out of me, but you know, if you can count how many times you laugh, that's not a good thing.
So my main complaint is the complete lack of chemistry. I hate romantic movies anyway, but you can't like them if there's no chemistry. I always thought it would've made more sense for Uma and Colin to stay together and Jeffrey to go back to Vanessa from Six Feet Under (can't remember her name in this).
I will add, if you watched it/want to watch it for the same reason I did, then it is worth watching.

For Jeffrey Dean Morgan as a fireman, for Colin Firth being funny, tragic and heartbreaking, for a great cameo by Rossellini and for seeing Thurman floundering in this dire romcom, struggling with a dull character and failing miserably to do slapstick. Not romantic and not comedic.
