Critic Reviews

  • , TIME Magazine

An uneven doubleheader by Walt Disney, who has combined into one film two dissimilar literary classics.

  • Jonathan Rosenbaum, Chicago Reader

    Engaging and lively.

  • A.H. Weiler, New York Times

Mr. Disney, abetted by his staff, such perfect narrators as Bing Crosby and Basil Rathbone, and a pair of durable literary works, has fashioned a conclave of cartoon creatures, which... have the winsome qualities and charm of Mickey Mouse, Dumbo, et al.

  • , Time Out

The Wind in the Willows adaptation has a gag-a-shot scenario, breakneck pace and plays like an extended Donald Duck short.

  • Emanuel Levy, EmanuelLevy.Com

Disney's doubleheader is intermittently witty adaptation of classic literature, narrated by Bing Crosby (who also sings) and Basil Rathbone.

Why did they get together good actors for such a stupid Disney movie? I don't know but they seem to do that a lot, and this movie is no different.

it had been years since i had seen this but revisiting it with my kids was a lot of fun. the ichabod story is a classic kids spooky film and the mr. toad story is a strong enough compliment.
